    Could it be that the Highstorm made him temporarily lucid when the Stormfather saw him? Taln seemed more lucid when Dalinar opened the perpendicularity, and if a highstorm works similarly, it could have a similar effect. Of course, it would also mean that he's at his most lucid when he's raving about ending his own life...
