    “You do realize I have a life? And a… cat.” “I’m… really not, miss.” He looked away from her beautiful face. Knowing she’d protest, he tried to change the subject. “But I do like spendin’ time wit’ cha.”

    “Wonderful.” He spun her out on the dance floor. “I’m relieved you said yes, miss. I’m never the one asking.”

    “Well, while You’s here… care to dance?” Nico was red as a beet.

    Nico chuckled and scratched his head. “Good tuh see ya up an’ about, miss.”

    “Oh, well…” Nico tried to explain. “I can see the ‘ole ballroom from righ’ here, so I thinks I’ll stay until-“ At that moment, Wendy walked into the ballroom and Nico smiled. “Until now. Ah… nice chattin’, yer ‘ighness!” With that, he bounded away to his lady friend. “‘Ello there, miss!”

    “Right, okay. At least that makes sense. So… what exactly do you want me to do?”

    “Okay…” Mav was skeptical. “And… he was looking for this sword when he was captured, is that right?” Nico blushed. “Yessir.”

    "It'll let me know you really care," Riva said after an eyeroll.

    "I just want to hear you say it."

    "Snuggle up. Talk about things." She yawned. Like maybe the journal I read. "Tell me you liked dancing with me, Caden."

    "Good." She released the pressure and settled into him again, leaning up to kiss his neck gently. "All is well, my love."

    Riva hit the nerve junction again, harder this time. "Re. Lax."

    She shushed him. "Oh, stop ruining the mood, you great oaf. You enjoyed the dance, you enjoyed being close to me, and right now you need to relax. This isn't the battlefield; No one is trying to hurt you. It's just me."

    "You're allowed to have enjoyed it, Caden," she said. "it doesn't make you any less of a man."

    She shook her head and held close to him, leading him over to the window where she sat with him, folding her legs up on the bench beside her and cuddling up to Caden."That was absolutely magical, my dearest."

    "Dancing doesn't require silence, general." She stayed locked right against his warmth. Soon enough the music ended and Riva pulled away to curtsy.

    "Aww, you're so very welcome, my darling. Even if you're a prideful little liar."

    "You liar." Riva poked her fingers into a nerve junction on his back. "There, that should relieve some tension."

    Riva swayed with her husband, smiling warmly from ear to ear. He was holding her, by the Stars, and it felt more wonderful than anything she'd ever experienced. "And you said you didn't dance..." she mumbled, rubbing her hand on his back.

    "I... I'm... I'm..." Her mouth worked for a moment and then she rested her head on Caden's chest, closing her eyes. Twin tears ran down her cheeks, hidden behind her mask. "I'm wonderful." She sobbed quietly, letting the music take over.

    The music started and Riva soon found herself leading instead of Caden. It would have been too much to ask the poor man to take over, so she refrained. If she'd thought coming up to the castle had been magical, this was pure heaven. Long had she watched beautiful women dance with handsome men but never had she joined them until now. She twirled in her long ball gown and it splayed out around her. For a moment, she was a bird in flight and then she was reeled back into her husband's strong arms, his golden eyes on hers. There, chest-to-chest with a man who had at first made her fear for her life, Riva began to cry silently with joy.

    With a smile too child-like for the Raveness, Riva pulled Caden out onto the dance floor, coming in close for the waltz. Other couples closed in beside them. "Ready?"

    "I'd never forgive you if I went home without a dance, so... Yes. It is one of those things." She took his hand. "And look, they're starting a new song, so..." Riva came in close. "Caden Praetorium. May I have this dance?"

    Riva sighed and took Caden’s hand, walking away with him. “Look, the truth is…. I’ve never danced before either. So you’ll not be alone in your… tripping over me.” “Wha… You knows ‘bout Wendy?”
