In the prelude, when they gave up the oathpact and all that, they mentioned one of them (talenel) all ready being dead and pretty strongly imply that he will remain dead after the oathpact is given up, so that's at least one we can relatively safely say is dead, though for good i suppose remains to be seen.

Yeah, it happens. Pretty much nothing you can do about it. No matter how good your spam filters are, or how up to date things are, the occasional spam bot will get through. As the technology behind the bots gets better, so too does the tech behind the forum software. It's pretty much always an on-going battle.

Yeah, i would think he would stay close to kaladin, too. Simply because kaladin was trying to enforce the idea and making accommodations for him being part of "the group", and i dont see him dropping that just because they do a different job now. I pretty much see bridge 4 sticking together for as long as possible (and probably still calling themselves bridge 4)

I dunno, that just seems like a REALLY long time for shen to be bumping around being unimportant. Even if he doesnt get his own book, which im not saying he WILL, i would be betting something comes of him before then.
-
what about a silhouette of bridge 4 characters standing tall and proud with "bridge 4" on top or something along those lines? Also, i do really like #1

Aww, i came in here hoping to see something like this, based on the title. also, midget tossing is probably the noblest sport ive heard of all day. Anywho, welcome to the forums!

Nope. you're now her sister, chaos decreed is so.

I'm just curious, what does everything is going to happen with Shen (the parshman bridgeman)? I'm convinced he's going to play a greater role in later books somehow, however, is he going to be a good guy or bad guy? Will he turn out to be a spy for parshendi/someone else? Will he "awaken" to become a parshendi and fight with kaladin and the bridgemen? Will he continue to stare dumbfounded at stuff? I know we obviously can't know what will actually go on with him, but i'm just curious what everyone else thinks. Personally, i think he's going to end up helping/fighting for/saving kaladin and his men.

I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that. I'd be disappointed with myself if i didnt. I have a translation copy of the prose edda not 5 feet from me at this moment on my bookshelf. That's... actually a little weird. But awesome. If you're big into norse mythology, it's a good read, seeing as how its the book that originated most of everything we know about it (along with the poetic edda, which i dont have. But i should totally get)

I suppose its a matter of setup. Currently, for me on every PC i use, there's 5 inches on each side of the usable space on the page blank blue space. (as in from the background) It's probably because i keep my resolution incredibly high. To clarify: on my screen, with my setup and all, on each side of the forum parts (starting and ending at the box up top with the WoK image) i have roughtly 1/4th of the screen blank, blue background space. I'm assuming this is a result of my resolution and no one else has it? The reason i mentioned it was because of this large amount of blank area. fair enough.

I like the actual body of the forum pages. Like the blue/white bit at the top and bottoms, and the alternating light/sky blue posts. Honestly, with a little extra non-blue color for accents, and updated buttons (the ones we have look so archaic) i think it would be just fine. To me, the monochromatic color makes it look flat, and listless. As far as the header bit like i was talking about, i can live with that, and indeed didnt even notice it until it was brought up. I can just see how it would be an issue without a mouse wheel, ya know? I just didnt acknowledge how much real estate was taken at the very top. Also in regards to the header bits, i like the area for ads/news (the place with the WoK banner), but at the same time, i think the WoK bit is probably too large. Of note that i think would be helpful to add to this box, is to maybe partition off another square or two and show the facebook/twitter updates for the 17th shard, just to give it "live news feed" sort of thing, know what i mean? Especially if we could see retweet answers from like brandon and/or peter answering any questions put to em. Or, better yet, we could have it follow brandon, just so we get live brandon coverage as it happens. I do like that area, i just think it needs a bit more to it, ya know? Though, maybe to save space up top, would it be possible to add this as a side bar on the left or right? (Right seems like the better area than left to me. Left is always for menus and things, right is for additional info) These last bits are just me thinking out loud as thoughts come to me, hoping they help any for improvement.

that's actually a pretty good point. I didnt really notice it, because i just naturally flick my scroll wheel down when going to topics, but when looking at a topic, a good 3/4th's of your screen real-estate is taken up by what is essentially header information (logo, WoK advert, news, navigation buttons, and site tree, and white space above posts) I could see how that would get annoying without a scroll wheel. The logo, on its own, isnt that terribly big, but when you add in all the other forum bits you get before the posts, it starts eating up space pretty darn quick, with the two parts taking up the most space being the logo and the news/WoK image-link thingy. Combined, they take up pretty much half your screen. In my opinion, its really a combination issue, not just the logo. I'm sure the sizes could be compromised somehow to still look nice and provide the same info in less space. Also: now im going to notice that every time i load a page. Thanks. >

The Stormlight Archive on the Main Page
Eerongal replied to Andrew the Great's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Yeah, we probably should. I mean, we only have WoK right now, but the series title is Stormlight archive. -
Hrmm? That was my intention. Having a "Human" category that had all the different races/cultures of humans from brandon's works. The Koloss, and steel inquisitors i was wrong about and shouldn't be in it, and the parshendi/parshmen i was hesitant on, but so far i see nothing explicitly saying "no! these arent humans!", especially since the characters treat them as just another race.
-
Should we still have the human category as a subcategory of races and creatures? Coz i mean, humans are creatures, really. I just figured it would be a good organization method to have a cascading system of labels. I.E. All creatures, and below that have human/non-human categories, and below that any more categorizing we need as we find it (human/non-humans of roshar/sel/etc., could lead to subcategories by area, etc.) Also: if not kept in line in this regards, i will continue to break things down like that. It's a habit of mine when organizing things, i try to break it down into as many sub categories as possible. Habit i picked up from working on financial software for years upon years. I try to break things down into categories a lot. Bad or good? i can try to reign this in, but i'm notorious at it. (i was planning on doing this after i had more pages ups. Seemed asinine to create all the categories first)
-
True enough. i went ahead and removed the reference to them being a race of humans, and removed the human category. In regards to the human category, i'll change that on all the others when we decide on something that sounds good. For now, i'll leave it as is.
-
There is some, but even at the same time, i dont think what's been brought up disqualifies them explicitly from being humans though, does it? I know it's speculated about them being -hrmf*mumble*muffle*-, but would being -hrmf*mumble*muffle*- disqualify them automatically from being human? especially since we dont really know what that is at this point? Also: we need spoiler tags. Those are infinitely useful in a forum like this Well, no, we need something that applies to a set of humans. Sentient lifeforms would have the same problem, I think. Yeah, that comes up with the same issue. Kandra, Koloss, and steel inquisitors are all quite sentient (koloss maybe less so )

I dont think quotations from books from books infringe copyright, as long as you attribute it to the originating material. besides, fair use states that you are allowed to copy works for educational purposes and not commercial. Cataloging a wiki of information is very much so educational. Also, if push comes to shove, you're allowed to ask the author for permission to reproduce parts of his work for various purposes, and i have no doubt people here could get that pretty quickly and painlessly (as he wouldn't object to this most likely) Edit: Also - im no copyright lawyer either.

hrm...."Human cultures or ethnicities" doesn't sound bad, but it also doesn't sound great. I could easily go with the term, but it seems kinda like a mouthful for the category, know what i mean? I'm not sure what else we could use, though. Off the top of my head: "Human races" "Types of people" "Human societies" "Classification of humans" "Human Types" "Types of Humans" "People" "Types of People" "Various Peoples" any of these sounds good? Also: on the parshmen and parshendi, i was considering them a type of human because so far we have no contradictory information, they roughly look and act like people, and the characters in the story treat them as a type of "other people" and not like beasts or animals. That's my logic for that, but i know that can swiftly be changed in the coming books as we get more info. Afterall, evolution clearly took some weird turns in the harsh environs of Roshar, so i see no problem with various human beings taking some weird natural twists as well.

Ethnicity wouldn't bother me. Well, Vin, Kelsier, nobility, Terris are all humans. However, i dont think kandra were, and from what i understand you're saying, koloss and inquisitors aren't, right? My thought behind making a "Human" category was to have something for all the different ethnicities and/or cultures could all be seen in one place, and would exclude anything not human (like the kandra, or the floaty bulby things from elantris whose names i cant remember, or, say, axehounds in WoK). This would also exclude things that have some form of culture but are not human (kandra, and apparently koloss and steel inquisitors, like i said i wasnt sure about them ) I mean, i'm not totally adverse to ousting it, i just thought it would be a useful classification to look up the various types of peoples, and not the beasties (intelligent or not)

But a culture can cover people of more than one type of people. It's a bit too broad if you ask me. For example, an asian can come to america and live in and be part of american culture. He's still asian, though. Also: outside of tabletop gaming, ive never heard the term "race" to describe non-humanoids. This is why the word "Race" puts the impression of humans to be present on me. So much so that this analogy you put out there hasnt occurred to me until you said it. When i hear "race" i think things like "asian, caucasian, indian, alethi, skaa, etc."
