  1. Welcome to the Shard, Ambitions Avatar! How many Branderson books have you read? Come join us in the Alleyverse; we’re a group of RPers and schemers who can always use another member! I don’t have a link handy, but we’re the ‘Alleyverse’ section of the Role Playing forum.
  2. I'm all for either Kadolin or Shaladin. Rushing into a marriage doesn't often end well, so I'm skeptical about how long Shallan and Adolin's will last.
  3. Interesting thoughts. I myself have never really, um, thought about this, since I've always taken it for granted that Dalinar has changed a lot over the course of his life. Enough to ride a Ryshadium years after carelessly breaking the back of another horse. The breed itself has a lot of Connection to Roshar, I think. They have tougher hooves than other breeds of horses, and, of course, attract musicspren, which, as Corax just said, hints to a symbiotic relationship with spren. So a good question to ask would probably be: Why do they need this relationship?
  4. Fang had been running for a while now. He finally leapt out of the Perpendicularity and sped down the path to the Waystop on pewter- and steel-enchanced legs. He dropped a coin at the last moment, and Steelpushed against it, throwing himself towards the Chaos sorcerer upon seeing his mother fighting the behemoth. He Ironpulled hard, and dug his Type 4 Invested claws into the sorcerer's armor, at the same time Pushing against its head to rip it free.
  5. Tena watched the Chaos sorcerer carefully. He had a metal sword at Araha's sword. That was the last mistake he'd ever make. She was stealthy, growing up on the streets did that to a person. She shadowed over to where she could Steelpush the sword away from Araha's throat, then downed a vial, and, setting her back to a wall, Pushed on the sword with all her strength, sending both the Chaos sorcerer and his weapon flying away, hopefully.
  6. Tena softly patted Araha’s back, thinking of the wreck she’d been after first killing someone (actually, beheading that someone with a knife; it had been difficult). “Unfortunately,” she said softly to Araha, “it gets easier after the first time. You’ll grow calluses. It’ll be all right.” She murmured softly to the young woman with Dayne and Damaya until a shout resounded from a the front of the Waystop. “Assistance!” She jogged off, then burned steel and Pushed against incoming bullets as they quite nearly hit her. She tapped some speed from her Steelmind, then ran to the boulder a Parshendi was hiding behind.
  7. Tena received Ioc’s punch to the face without feeling any pain. She face healed right up real fast. She glared at Ioc.
  8. "That was well done," Tena muttered unconsciously to her spren. "They're smart kids. I hope they live long enough to enjoy it." She shook her head and Iffina transformed into a staff immediately. Tena stopped Pushing on the coin that had given her a view of Araha and Dayne's move. Dropping to the ground, she slid across the ground with the Surge of Abrasion and momentum, staying wary for any enemies that had survived. Araha looked like she'd just killed for the first time, which was always rough. Tena didn't say anything to her, just re-frictioned her feet and stood with her Shardstaff angled and braced so she could swing around to attack someone if they tried a sneak attack. Dayne hit the ground, and Tena absently walked over and healed him.
  9. I’m talking about characters with explicitly stated names.
  10. Tena had been fighting for the last couple of pages NPC-like, since some people have to do things at school. She had noticed two strange things: Mr. Amber had turned into a Dragon and Devaan was burning a metal she’d never felt the beats of before. Things are pretty crazy, she thought, swinging a massive Shardbattleaxe at a nearby Chaos Marine’s head. She then Pushed a few of its spikes free and chopped ruthlessly at its head. She Edgedancer-ed it over to Yzabet, an odd memory popping into her head. Over sixteen years ago, Yzabet had been taunting her during a sledding race since Tena hadn’t had a sled and had instead been ‘ice skating’ using the Surge of Abrasion. Those were the days, Tena thought fondly, remembering with a wince how Mace had nearly suffocated her with a snow pile. Almost all of the Chaos Marine were gone, and nobody on their side had died, yet...
  11. "Yo, Yzy!" Tena shouted at the woman. "Have I met you before?"
  12. Tena lazily walked forward and healed the man's leg with Progression. Her 'power suit' deformed.
  13. Iffina formed as two axes, the one in her left hand a mighty battleaxe, the other a smal hatchet with greater reach. “I’m left-handed,” she muttered. She swung the shorter axe and formed her Shardplate at the same time. The Shardplate looked and acted like Samus Aran’s power suit, oddly.
  14. Tena swung her staff, casually interfering with the sparring. Pry skid to a stop, and Mr. Amber scored a hit. “Most notably,” Tena commented, “you have to be aware of your surroundings in battle. If you’re fighting one soldier and another attacks, you’re toast.” Tena ignored Pry’s angry look and pulled out her cellphone, posting on Facebook that she was available for providing more orphans with shelter, food, and education if more should need it.
  15. Tena did an acrobatic flip and un-slicked her feet, coming to a full stop to watch Mr. Amber's and Pry's sparring. Her spren formed into a staff just as Tena leaned on it, then decided against wasting time, and began a complex Ketan, going slowly as she could, the moves made different by the fact that she was using a staff instead of a sword. She then modified the move further by slicking her feet partially so that it was harder to balance.
  16. "Poor girls," Tena said to Mr. Amber as soon as the girls were inside the building and out of earshot. "So new to their powers and unsure about them. I wish they... I don't know, I kind of wish I could switch places with them." She smiled to herself sadly, and then suddenly said, "I don't get the prejudice about Hemalurgy, honestly. I ask for permission or have a request before I spike anyone. The Lightweaver I was about to talk about, he hated his spren and his Surges and the spren hated him. They asked me to spike them to get rid of the powers since the man was looking to become a Dustbringer instead. I just kind of have a fourth Ideal Lightweaver spike that I've yet to use. It's weird, the guy had sworn four Ideals, but still wanted to not have Lightweaving. I don't know what happened to him." She shook her head and ice-skated around some trees, her spren making a noticeable impression for once, laughing with joy at her use of the Surge.
  17. "That's unfortunate, but it also means that you absolutely need to resolve your problems with your spren straightaway, which is for the better. I suggest talking to him about your problem."
  18. "It's best to take your time when learning how to Surgebind," Tena said matter-of-factly. "Elsewise, you and your spren will have a difficult time getting along, and that is about the worst thing for a Radiant. I met a Lightweaver once-" Tena cut herself off, not wanting to scare the girl. "Nevermind. Anyway, you don't have to rush into Surgebinding. Taking your time will prove more satisfactory in the end." A proverb popped into her head as she said this: "Endurance overcomes the cheetah, in time." Turning to the new guy, she said, "A Dustbringer? Of course there's room for you join. Are you skilled with weapons?"
  19. Tena responded to Damaya's question unthinkingly. "It's a common problem, with many kinds of Radiants, to be incapable or unwilling to Surgebind because of your spren or many other things. I myself was Surgebinding when I was, say, fourteen or something. I'm not sure how I'm 'broken,' which is the term for when something traumatic happens that enables you to be a Radiant, but I was subconsciously Surgebinding for a while before I was told what Iffina was, and I never had any problems. However, your problem is likely rooted from, perhaps, something that someone did to you. If you let it go, or acknowledge it, you will probably be able to Surgebind as per normal. It could also be that you are bonded to the wrong kind or spren in your perception, and that keeps you from embracing your true nature." Tena shrugged. "As I said, Radiants have this problem commonly, and they can often overcome it, so it's likely only a temporary setback." She tilted her head at Damaya questioningly. Araha's questions were easier; "Rithmatism, I'm pretty sure it's called. It's an inherent ability that anyone can have on that Earth, and cannot be gained by any amount of training. Rithmatism is not Investiture; it's another kind of magic that is entirely different. I don't know who created it, or how. Its practitioners are called Rithmatists."
  20. Iffina, Tena’s Cultivationspren, turned into two battleaxes, one in each of Tena’s hands. She waved these at the two girls, Damaya and Araha, and the old man, Mr. Amber, pointedly. “I’m a steel Compounder, Edgedancer, and first Heightening Awakener,” she said to Mr. Amber.
  21. Tena stormed back to the Waystop in a storm of metal coins, all flying around her at various speeds, heights, and, ahem, velocities. She landed in the forest, the coins coming to a halt above her head. She quit Pushing on them, and held out her pouch, all of them falling neatly in. "Soo," Tena asked, "anyone still want combat training?"
  22. Heya sister, what's your favorite character from the Stormlight Archive? Have an upvote!
  23. Tena strolled up to Mace’s statue, and remarked aloud, “Y’know, sir, I was the first person who saw your corpse. Actually, the only person who saw it before the remains were obliterated by the thermonuke. Gods, do I miss having someone to boss me around. I just don’t know what to do with myself unless somebody else gives me orders. Or, alternatively, if I’m filled with battle thrill.” She glared at the statue, which yielded no results, unfortunately. She huffed and saw ‘Klasten’ talking to somebody near Devaan’s memorial. Tena found it more than a little weird that he had a statue when he was still alive, which most people weren’t supposed to know, maybe. She ice-skated her way to Klasten and said, “Whatcha doing? Can I... oh.” She saw the card in Klasten’s hand and grinned. “You’re going on that one quest? Can I come?”
  24. Tena snorted at what Klasten said, and pulled out a Tia card, transporting to her house in the Alleycity. She Steelpushed her way across the city, then walked in the front door of the Hall of Legends. This is where Mace’s remains were, right?
