I only brought it up as a response to someone else's comment, as they brought up the triangle resolution as a point of dissatisfaction with OB.. where as I'm happy to see it so that it won't sully the next 7 books
-
Fair enough, will do.
-
Needless to say, I'm glad he nipped it in the bud instead of dragging out a half-assed love triangle for another 3 books or more. Now we don't have to worry about it. It's done. Shallan and Adolin. Move on. Definitely.. that went way deeper than "we're so Kholin and you're so Sadeus".. that was "I'm letting out my personal issues, in spite of my better judgement"
-
I actually felt that the addition of an Adolin/Kaladin/Shallan love triangle was a copout. She was all about Adolin until falling into the chasm.. not to mention there's nothing in common with Kaladin and Shallan. I felt that the "love triangle" was needless filler for a Kardashian audience. Unnecessary. Lyn would be a way better fit for Kaladin anyway. Shallan is simply the only thing we have for a female protagonist, so hinting at a romance for the man male protagonist (Kaladin) is almost obligatory. So Sanderson toyed with it to meet expectations, then subsequently rejected it because, in the end, Adolin makes the absolute most sense for Shallan. I highly doubt we'll even see a Kaladin romance. It's unnecessary. He's all about protecting people, not wooing the local women.
-
Also the Shadesmar plot, I believe, was there to further Adolin's relationship with Maya, who he will eventually bring back to life, thus gaining his Radience
-
I think it did advance the plot, though.. because otherwise they'd all be dead. Instead Sja-anat saved them and sent them to Shadesmar. I believe Sja-anat's defection to the side of the radiant's will come in to play further.. beyond being why Renarin and Glys are still "good guys".. considering Sja-anat is the cause of corrupted spren
-
That's what I believe from what I read.. not that the discovery that they were voidbringers, but the perceived loss of Honor's favor is what caused the Recreance
-
As for Shallan being trustworthy.. I believe we're supposed to suspect exactly that.. in WoR they even mention the esoteric nature of Lightweavers. They base what they do in lies (lightweaving), and or force their truths (soulcasting) to be seen.. part of why their ideals aren't oaths, but self truths, since so much of what they do is founded in falsehood
-
This was how I saw the Recreance... Not that "OMG we're voidbringers we need to kill our spren!!11#$$"... But more.. they knew that originally humans were the voidbringers, and at some point Honor decided they were worthy, and at the same time, the Parsh turned to Odium instead of staying with Honor.. but before Honor let the humans know that, in spite of their origins, they were ok and just... Until Honor was in his death throws.. when he started raving about Dawnshards and how humans would destroy Roshar. It was losing Honor's favor that caused the Recreance, not knowledge of where they came from. That's how it read to me. As to why the Parsh turned to Odium.. that we still have to learn

I'm usually pretty good on my pronounciation... At least with SA I'd hold my own.. but flip it to the spelling and I'd fall flat!
-
Egads! Trapped on my first day!!
-
I was a bit dissapointed with Amaram.. I thought for sure he could be redeemed.. suddenly fully turning to Odium seemed off for him, considering everything he'd done previously had been for the"greater good"

IronBars* stupid auto correct
-
Iron bars, in the end I respect your opinion that, for you, OB was not what you were hoping for. For me, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I respectfully disagree with some of your points, and agree on others. For me, the book fit. Both with character development and plot development. In a 10 book series, you can't move that fast, and I feel OB progressed the story as much as was needed.
-
Noted. You're right. Moral of the story, I did not, in fact, find OB underwhelming.. did stuff happen that I was not expecting? Yes. Did things I wanted to happen happen? Not always, but in the end, I was very pleased with it and felt satisfied as a whole.
-
This is a very lotr fan response to me. "You're just not sophisticated enough to like this series I like"
-
Agreed. Without the interpersonal relationships, things get dull for me. Admittedly I was poking a bit of fun at Iron, with his very lotr fan response to people who don't like the series he likes.. but as I've never read it, I can't judge. It may well be that if I did read it, I'd enjoy it.. I may even look it up and try it out, as I'm always looking for something new to delve into!
-
Pssshhh no no no! It's because none of you understood the series. Only the most discerning of readers can comprehend it! XD
-
What can I say, nerd humor gets me
-
Yes! "Dividing by zero" had me guffaw out loud.
-
Totally.. already did my reread of OB. Each one has been read twice.. and I will very likely reread again from the beginning when book 4 is close to release to refresh
-
That's not necessarily true.. everyone interprets things differently. Hence the flaws with The Diagram With Teft, though.. why wasn't he addicted in twok? No access, no spheres. Why not in WoR? Not a lot of limelight, but also, still striving to not fail Kaladin and bridge 4.. by OB he'd lost his battle and fell off the wagon. Not a big stretch to believe he'd fall off the wagon between those 3 books.. I've seen people follow similar progressions with alcohol in real life. It still annoyed me, but I understood it. I actually also believe that part of what happened with Teft was put in to show that not all of the ideals are exactly the same.. "I will protect those I hate, if it is right" vs "I will protect those I hate, even if the one I hate is myself"
-
I'm sure this was brought up, more than once... but Kaladin's disguise (and everyone's reaction to it) and Elhokar's nonchalance about being turned into a high lady.. the entire scene was hysterical.

Nightblood absolutely stole the show for me, between interactions with Szeth and interactions with Lift. Nightblood was fantastic in Warbreaker, but even more so here! And Lift referring to Szeth as "crazy face" repeatedly.. that made my day. Pretty much anything happening with Lopen makes me laugh.. he really needs to find some way/excuse for Lopen and Wayne (mistborn) to meet.. those two together would be unstoppable.
