I thought Allomancer Jak was female? Am I completely wrong?
The Leecher in the "Ghastly Gondola" story in the broadsheet in BoM isn't Jak. Jak was the ridiculous Tineye in the broadsheet stories in AoL and SoS (and also the AoL supplement to the MAG, which has wonderful annotations from his Terris servant, Handerwym). damnation, that was a lot of acronyms. He's definitely referred to as male.

Ok, so additional SH related things meaning I'm posting here rather than the short-stories board. Silence's grandmother's Shade. She doesn't attack Silence, and never has. Suggests she's able to retain some sense of self, or at least a degree of control.
Was her grandmother able to get some additional measure of Investiture either before or after death? We've seen with Kelsier in SH that Invested individuals with a higher amount of Investiture last longer before moving into the Beyond.
Alternatively, is this something to do with Connection? If you're very strongly Connected to an individual, that persists through death and into the Cognitive (Kelsier was able to speak with Spook, and with Vin).

Alternatively, if using the full editor, there's a button to the left of the 'font' dropdown which contains special formatting options.

Ok, I found out we do have confirmation that Shades are Cognitive Shadows. Also has some extra relevance with Seons, apparently.

Except for that they have unkeyed gold minds that work on any gold feruchemist. So just make him a hemalurgic feruchemist, and give him a goldmind already full of health and then voila! Happy and Healthy!
yeah but my issue with this, is how do you judge "wanting" something? If I really really really want an extra arm badly, and cut myself at the place I really really want the arm, would it grow? I think that was brought up in another thread. How much can I convince myself of something, that my body will think it is real? That is why I am still of the mind that it is tied to your core identity. Something that is increadibly hard to alter, and only through massive trauma would it change. For instance when I was younger I did not need glasses. It took till I think 7th grade in elementary school before my vision had worsened enough to be noticeable and discovered I need glasses. so my core identity started out with glasses, and suddenly finding out i needed them did not feel overly traumatic. So the stormlight healing would bring me back to that. But that is just my own interpretation.
Continuing with the Stormlight spoilers.
I always understood Healing to be more to do with self-image. Sazed would have liked to be whole again, I'm sure, and Kaladin WANTS to be free of his brands, but at this point in their stories they still have a deep-seated image of themselves as being that way. Lopen, on the other hand, apparently never internalised the loss of his arm in the same way.

Did they mention that Harmony said he's never seen that writing? I don't recall.
If that is the case, perhaps they follow the tradition of writing on metal? We know the Medallions have the markings on them, as did the dummy bands (the bracers). These are all made of metal, and Harmony is metal-blind. Have we seen the characters anywhere else?

Oh, another one (this one is new) - is fire linked to Investiture in some way on Threnody? Is that why it can blind and disorient the Shades?

So, I'm getting on with my Shadows for Silence re-read. Nothing in particular to shout about (and I might be being over-careful with spoilers, but I'd rather be over-careful than under-careful).
Anyway, I noticed that the Shades are "blinded and disoriented" by fire. Considering that Shades are considered to be Cognitive Shadows (is that confirmed, btw? I can't remember now) and we know that Kelsier saw metal as a blinding light when in the Cognitive Realm (much like those holding Preservation do) it did make me wonder. What's up with Fire? Why are Shades blinded by it? Is fire somehow keyed on Investiture on Threnody?

I don't understand why language or sexual references are a hangup for some people. Sure it is "adult," I won't argue against that, but there are plenty more adult themes in the books. Why is a word more offensive than violent scenes of torture, mass murder, and the twisting of people's souls? If I want to protect a child from one, I'd definitely want them to avoid the other as well. Kids are certainly, at least here in the States, more likely to run across swearwords or sexual situations in day to day life than they are to encounter horrible violence. I'm not denying anyone's right to be offended, but I don't personally understand being offended by one and not the other.
It's what's wrong with society today - a nipple is more shocking than a knifing, and 'vile' language is treated worse than a violent assault.

Welp, one delayed flight later, I am back with WoR in front of me. Abd I can't find the scene O_O
Anyone have the chapter number?
I can try having a look when I get home from work - is it definitely WoR and not WoK? She travels with Thaylens in both books.

Do we have *any reason whatsoever* beyond the scars on his hands, to believe that based on his experiences in the Pits, and the chance encounter with Kelsier, Walin, over the process of the next 10 years or so (12 years, to be more exact) is able to acquire not just the spike in his eye, but also the apparent knowledge of Freuchemy and Allomancy sufficient to save the south polers?
Why is this theory any better than a theory that a random Terris Freuchemist escaped the paws of Inquisitors with a spike in his eye, went to the Pits to scar his hands and then made it to the South Pole?
^This. Random speculation is fun, but let's use Occam's Razor guys.
As emailanimal points out: How likely is it? Why is that theory any more likely to be true than any other?
Less scientific, but more true to laws of narrative and drama (and we ARE dealing with literature): How many people will remember Walin? Would that be a satisfying conclusion? Would there be any payoff for the fans?
I can understand the "Spook is the Sovereign" camp. Spook was a believer in Kelsier's church, I could see him having taken up the Scars like some of the more devout Survivorists as a mark of piety even, plus a few other things which I don't want to post here because it's the BoM board not the SH board, but even I think it's far more likely to be Kelsier. Not to suggest Brandon hasn't thrown us off with false leads before, but I don't believe that's what's happening here.

He had nails with him. He didn't know Wax would drop in, so what are the nails for? I consider it highly likely that Forch was a pawn of either Harmony (driving Wax away from the Terris compound where he was being stifled) or Trell (hoping to get a future embuggerance out of the way early).
He was a Coinshot, and up to something seriously messed up. It makes sense he'd be prepared in case of discovery.

One word, guys - heelies

I doubt there's much more we can realistically get from Threnody at this point, but recent releases (and some of the Realmatic, and larger Cosmere implications raised) have made me want to revisit it. Plus I think I've only read it the once anyway, so it can't hurt. Anyone else fancy having another poke, see if we can't raise some new points?
Of course, please keep any time-sensitive spoilers to the relevant boards (I'm being as vague as possible but it's probably obvious still what I'm alluding to. Just don't track any spoilers in here please, tagged or otherwise until the blanket-ban is lifted).

So if someone has a question spare:
Why was Galladon's father studying Fjordell geography? Was he trying to hack one of the regional magics? (I would LOVE an answer to this, it's been on my mind for a long time).

Wingsuits for Gliders (Iron Feruchemy)? Actually seems like something a Coinshot/Lurcher would get more use out of again...
0 -
I don't see any reason why that would be the case. Any investiture the holder possesses could theoretically be stored in the nicrosil. The book pretty much says exactly that.
Yeah, I think I just had a dumb moment there. I mean, Feruchemy is also something that can't normally be stored, so that was a flawed premise from the start. The other metals in the bands are obviously there for convenience, as discussed on Wilg when they first use the medallions.

What does copper let you do?
Copper = Knowledge = Power.
(Copper let Sazed save the world, recall)
Also I may be mistaken but I thought through Identity shenanigans that the Bands of Mourning also turned you into a full Mistborn? In which case, copper would be present to let you burn copper... I thought...
The bands do let you burn Copper, (edit: and every other metal) but it's unclear exactly how they grant Allomantic power, as that's not normally something that can be stored. I assume this is a very advanced use of the Investiture/Identity combo.

People keep talking about Harmony as though his motivations can be boiled down to a mashup of "What Preservation would do" and "What Ruin would do". That seems like a TERRIBLE oversimplification. He isn't Preservation OR Ruin, he's something new. I'm sure his motivations are something also something far more nuanced.

The Coppermind still has all the powers readily available for your perusal.

If anyone has a question-spot free, I've got one that's been on the backburner for a year or more

He's about to have a signing tour in a week. You can post a request for this question in the general thread for the Calamity tour in the Events thread.
Ace, thanks

Well, for starters there's Wax, Wayne and Marasi's other powers (Iron Feruchemy to store/tap weight, Gold Feruchemy to store/tap health, and Cadmium/Bendalloy for Speed Bubbles).
Check out the Ars Arcanum at the back of the books or the Coppermind for the full list though.

Power-blind? [minor Secret History and Shadows for Silence spoilers]
in Mistborn

Vin's earring is Bronze though, isn't it? It's a hemalurgic spike anyway; definitely one of the sixteen base metals (and one of the ten known in TFE).
