  1. “Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bind, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!” Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind? Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind; Er hat den Knaben wohl in dem Arm, Er faßt ihn sicher, er hält ihn warm. “Mein Sohn, was birgst du so bang dein Gesicht?” “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!” In C3, Wonko the Sane was killed by the Jabberwock! He was (still) a Quokka of Wonderland of the Animals of Wonderland, and held the Eight of Clubs! This does not affect the outcome of the Cards minigame. |TJ| was killed by both the Jabberwock and the Bandersnatches! He was My Son, holding a Vorpal Sword, of the Creatures of the Looking-Glass! Labyrinth succumbed to the madness! He was a Village Borogove of the Creatures of the Looking-Glass! Vote Count: Labyrinth (3): Amanuensis, Matrim’s Dice, _Stick_ Experience (2): |TJ|, Labyrinth xinoehp512 (1): Ashbringer The Known Novel (1): Sart _Stick_ (1): Experience Scars of Hathsin has not posted in two cycles and will be replaced by @DrakeMarshall. 2. The Queen of Hearts' hedgehog sailed in between the arch, hitting the wicket with a solid thump. "At last, a perfect shot!" she cried triumphantly. The others on the croquet-ground looked at her uncertainly. A venturesome quokka spoke up. "Ma'am, that intruder you're looking for who's still abroad--" The Queen's head spun in rage. "That's right! Off with your head!" The Quokka jumped up in surprise, but was tackled by the Queen's flamingoes. He disappeared in a shower of pink wings. The Queen then spun to the hapless Ace of Spades. "Gardener! Lie flat!" He meekly obeyed, revealing Alice crouching behind him, small and afraid. "OFF WITH HER HEA--" Alice heard nothing more. Dimly, she thought of the Caterpillar she'd met, and how rude he had been to her. He was wilting on a leaf somewhere now, she was sure. But she could only write on a leaf, and so she did, even as the Queen seemed to draw closer. She looked at what was in her hand, and was shocked to find she'd written her letters backwards. The teachers at school would never forgive her for that. Luckily, the hall of mirrors she was in lent itself for easy reading. A title seemed to suggest itself to her confused eyes... A more substantial writeup is forthcoming but y'all want results In C2, Scars of Hathsin was killed! He was a Caterpillar of the Animals of Wonderland, and held the Jack of Diamonds! _Stick_ succumbed to the madness! She was the Mad Hatter of the Tea Party faction, and held the Two of Spades! Labyrinth was executed by the Queen of Hearts! She was Alice of the People of Wonderland, and held the Ace of Spades! Wonko the Sane was executed by the Queen of Hearts! He was a Quokka of Wonderland of the Animals of Wonderland, and held the Eight of Clubs! The Cards minigame has ended! Unless otherwise noted, you have lost all previous roles, alignments, items, abilities, cards, and victory conditions. You should have received at least some of those anew for the next game in your GM PM. The Queen of Hearts achieved her victory condition of executing two players, one of which was Alice, the Knave of Hearts, or the Cheshire Cat! The Knave of Hearts achieved his victory condition of surviving and stealing the Queen of Hearts’ tarts! The Tea Party achieved their victory condition of having every living player sit to tea! The Animals of Wonderland failed their victory condition of having every living member of a different faction (at least two) be the same non-Medium size! The Deck of Cards failed their victory condition of having one living member of each suit in the Cards doc! The People of Wonderland failed their victory condition of preventing the Queen of Hearts from executing Alice, the Cheshire Cat, and the Knave of Hearts! ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. The Jabberwocky minigame has now begun! It will last three cycles, concluding on C6. The following factions and information are now public: This minigame will last three cycles. Jabberwock: The Serial Killer. Must remove all Bandersnatches from the game to win. Has a kill each cycle. Look to your PM for your faction and role information. Cycle Four has begun! 3. The Cards minigame is over! Results will be up in the C4 writeup, as well as the adjustments and continuities for the next minigame. Look to your GM PMs for news, EVEN IF YOU ARE DEAD. May the best players win
  4. Duchess said to a card, that she met in the yard, 'Let us both go to law: you will prosecute me - Come, I'll take no denial; We must have a trial: For really this cycle I've nothing to see.' Said the card to her face, 'Such a trial, your Grace, with no jury or judge, would be wasting our breath.' 'I'll be judge, I'll be jury,' she said in her fury: 'I'll try the whole cause, and condemn me to death. RIP to my shape poem generator if I get it back online I'll make a more accurate parody Experience has succumbed to the madness! 5. To answer @Quintessential’s question: You may take any number of free actions per cycle that are available to you. That’s why they’re free An hour and a half!
  6. Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, “and what is the use of a book,” thought Alice, “without pictures or conversations?” So she was considering in her own mind (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very sleepy and stupid), whether the pleasure of making a daisy-chain would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies, when suddenly a White Rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her. There was nothing so very remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way to hear the Rabbit say to itself, “Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!” (when she thought it over afterwards, it occurred to her that she ought to have wondered at this, but at the time it all seemed quite natural); but when the Rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge. In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again. — First came ten soldiers carrying clubs; these were all shaped like the three gardeners, oblong and flat, with their hands and feet at the corners: next the ten courtiers; these were ornamented all over with diamonds, and walked two and two, as the soldiers did. After these came the royal children; there were ten of them, and the little dears came jumping merrily along hand in hand, in couples: they were all ornamented with hearts. Next came the guests, mostly Kings and Queens, and among them Alice recognised the White Rabbit: it was talking in a hurried nervous manner, smiling at everything that was said, and went by without noticing her. Then followed the Knave of Hearts, carrying the King’s crown on a crimson velvet cushion; and, last of all this grand procession, came THE KING AND — THE QUEEN OF HEARTS, she baked some tarts All on a summer’s day; The Knave of Hearts, he stole those tarts, And took them quite away. The Cards minigame of QF67 has begun! The following rules and housekeeping elements are now revealed: Game Structure This game is divided into three mini-games, in which players or factions will earn points. Each faction or player may earn five points for completing their victory condition within the minigame. Mechanics within the minigames will also allow factions or players to pick up additional points. Certain information is revealed at the start of each minigame. Roles, items, alignments, and victory conditions are lost between minigames unless otherwise noted. After each minigame, all players are resurrected and assigned new roles and alignments after victory points are calculated. At the end of the ninth cycle, an overall winner will be declared based upon who has the most overall points. The Card Minigame This minigame has now begun and will last three cycles. In it, players and factions must contend with Size-changing, Tea-Party, and Card mechanics. Size-changing: Every player in this minigame has a size: Small, Medium, or Large. Tea-Party: It is always teatime, at least for the Mad Hatter & Co. There are always six seats at the Tea-Party; anyone may sit in one of them as a free action during a cycle, with precedence going to those who first submit orders, and each attendee has a 50% chance of receiving a Bottle or a Cake. Players sharing tea cannot fail at actions targeting each other. Cards: Every player either is a card, or is accompanied by one. Madness votes cast on a target of the same suit as the player voting will not count. Cycle One has begun! It will end in 24 hours at 9:30 PM EDT on Friday 1 September. Please be patient as GM PMs are sent out. There is a madness today, with a one-vote minimum. A reminder that you may NOT open PMs without using an action, unless your role permits otherwise. If you take this action, it is irrevocable. Please include me and JNV in all PMs made. Player List: Good luck!
  7. Signups are closed! Look for your GM PMs to appear shortly, as well as the C1 thread.
  8. I will give you a role in GM PM once the game begins, which will tell you what you can do with your actions within the game mechanics. However, you may design an RP character for yourself now, if you so choose, or after the game begins. Do note that there doesn’t have to be any correspondence between the two (and you often don’t want there to be, if you’re trying to hide )
  9. Welcome to SE, you two, and to the game! This QF does have some odd elements in it, yes, but the simple format of an SE game is preserved in the basic rules (minus eliminators vs. villagers, which I cannot guarantee due to blackout ). I’d encourage you both to read the General Rules to get a feel for the etiquette and procedure that we use around here, as well as some of the weird terminology and jargon, so that you get a bit of grounding before the game starts. If you have questions about anything during the game, feel free to ask me and JNV in your GM PM, or take it to Araris as the IM, and we’ll be happy to clarify. Enjoy murdering investigating your fellow Sharders!
  10. ALL in the golden afternoon Full leisurely we glide; For both our oars, with little skill, By little arms are plied, While little hands make vain pretence Our wanderings to guide. Ah, cruel Three! In such an hour, Beneath such dreamy weather, To beg a tale of breath too weak To stir the tiniest feather! Yet what can one poor voice avail Against three tongues together? Imperious Prima flashes forth Her edict ‘to begin it’ – In gentler tone Secunda hopes ‘There will be nonsense in it!’ – While Tertia interrupts the tale Not more than once a minute. Anon, to sudden silence won, In fancy they pursue The dream-child moving through a land Of wonders wild and new, In friendly chat with bird or beast – And half believe it true. And ever, as the story drained The wells of fancy dry, And faintly strove that weary one To put the subject by, “The rest next time -” “It is next time!” The happy voices cry. Thus grew the tale of Wonderland: Thus slowly, one by one, Its quaint events were hammered out – And now the tale is done, And home we steer, a merry crew, Beneath the setting sun. Alice! a childish story take, And with a gentle hand Lay it where Childhood’s dreams are twined In Memory’s mystic band, Like pilgrim’s wither’d wreath of flowers Pluck’d in a far-off land. Greetings, and welcome to Quick Fix 67: Down the Rabbit Hole! This game is grounded in Lewis Carroll’s two novels, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass (And What Alice Found There). It’s also blackout, as one might expect when stepping into a new world as mad as this one. However, the following information is public during signups: Cycles are 24 hours long and will begin and end at 9:30 PM EDT. There is no dead doc. Players who die are still expected to follow the game unless told otherwise, and may submit actions available to them even if they apparently do nothing. There is a madness (exe) every cycle. The candidate with the most votes (at least one) is removed. The game will be exactly nine cycles/days long. It will also contain exactly 14 players. Additional willing participants will be reserved as pinch-hitters. One action per cycle, unless specified otherwise. A single one-on-one PM can be opened by using an action. This is the only normative way for PMs to form. PMs created by this generic action will survive all other changes to the gamestate. Please include all GMs in PMs. My wonderful co-GM is @JNV, who should be included in all PMs you make. If you have concerns, a dispute arises, or you need to talk to someone about anything game-related, @Araris Valerian is the IM whose watchful eye will bless this game. Have fun! This game’s design errs on the side of random enjoyability and Carrollian insanity over perfect balance, so please expect that if you sign up. Feel free to create characters, or not, and also feel free to do poems and songs and parodies in the style of Carroll. Signups begin today and will run until Thursday 31 August at 9:30 PM EDT. Good luck! You might need it! Player List: Pinch-hitters: Spec List: A Special Secret (I’ll tell you everything I can ) it’s about Joe Quicklinks: [Free Space for Clown Car Bingo]
  11. Would be happy to have you on board! My proposed rollover times would be 9:30 PM EDT or 4:00 AM EDT, so if the former works for you, I'd be thrilled to have the help. Though I'd warn you that co-GMing with me on this blackout will probably not be representative of the normative GMing experience
  12. I can run the QF on two conditions: 1. I find a willing co-GM who is largely available in the late evenings or very early mornings of EST and 2. you give me 2-3 days to refine my ruleset and send it to the committee. edit: for those of you wondering, the intended flavour is Alice in Wonderland blackout
  13. Put me down as a pinch-hitter. I won’t have the bandwidth for the next couple days for this, but after that, it seems important in such a low player-count game to not have inactives tempted to join outright because Wonko, but LG95 was sort of a mistake anyway so I’m trying to be more responsible with my time >>
  14. It is indeed fitting that the Ashaman, the true successors and followers of the M’Hael, should run a Shard game
  15. Very curious why you think Drake having Odium, or DeTess having a charge of it and using it, is in any way exculpatory for either of them
  16. Who are you and what have you done with Araris Valerian? What on Silverlight is the “Xino question” I will note I’m not entirely absolving Drake of suspicion until he actually finds Autonomy, but if he’s being sensible with Odium there’s no reason to look for another custodian
