I actually think what is happening there is that Nale, unlike the other Heralds, bonded a spren. He has a live sprenblade in addition to his honorblade.

mistborn or stormlight archive which one?
Demandred replied to Jude's topic in General Brandon Discussion
They are both my favorite! Different reasons though. Mistborn TFE is without question my favorite single novel. Breeze and Clubs and Ham and Kell and Saze, the whole crew is just so great! And their interactions feel like a group of old friends. TFE is a work of art! Stormlight I think is going to end up as the better series. WoK and WoR are both spectacular and building up for more. Dalinar, Kaladin, and Shallan are badasses, but they don't have the same level of magic the Survivor's crew does for me. -
Book Recommendation for Sanderson Fan
Demandred replied to Dubisx's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Others have made some excellent suggestions! Personally I would recommend Lightbringer. It's a very interesting world with some very cool things happening. The first book on Weeks Night Angel trilogy is also good. though I thought the 2nd and 3rd went downhill. Dresden Files get better and better with each one. and they are short and easy. Fun stuff! Wheel of Time is fantastic, though I don't blame anyone who finds it tough to get into. If you have somehow managed not to read it, you must check out Lord of the Rings. It is THE original modern fantasy novel. -

All of the essays are awesome!! I especially love the one about Threnody though with it's description of events shortly after shattering and it's Shard. The Roshar essay has some very tantalizing bits of info on Ashyn, Braize, and something about fire acts strangely on Roshar! So cool!

Ah ok. Thanks Windrunner. I had somehow missed that bit.

So, I need to go back and reread Bands sometime soon. But a question that I have been thinking about since it came out has been bothering me. How do the bands fuel allomancy? I get how they grant the power to use all the abilities, but don't you still need to have those metals to burn inside you? Or did I miss something?

Sanderson "Would you Rather"
Demandred replied to KnightRadiant's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
As awesome as Hogwarts would be, this is no contest. Brandons alpha group. Even if I couldn't contribute much. Would you rather have a set of shardplate or an Iron Man suit?- 954 replies

90% of this book was fantastic!! Right up until the Obliteration takes David to the station. Then things went all Mass effect 3 nonsensical. It's not as bad as that was. But I am very unsatisfied with this ending as it stands. For me at least, the confrontation with Calamity was weak. And I think I would have actually liked it a lot more if the Steelheart from the other dimension actually turned out to be the same guy instead of David's Father. Prof's powers are way more badass than I thought even after firefight though.

Aye, thats a good list of wonderful moments. Sazed's ascension blew me away as I didn't see it coming until right before it happened. Same with Vin's earring, i totally missed it! Think my favorite battle is pretty easily Kelsier's fight with the Inquisitor in the square. Followed by Wax at the wedding in Alloy

Did a quick search and didn't see anything, though I am sure this has come up before. I am curious to see how people found Mistborn, what got you to read it? And in addition to that, what is your favorite part of the Mistborn books? For myself, I came to them after Robert Jordan died. I was curious to see who this fellow who was taking over the Wheel of Time was. I read Elantris first, and thought it was pretty good, worth checking out what else Sanderson had written. Then I read Mistborn, and determined that I would read anything this guy writes. I love how the entire world of Mistborn, especially the first book, is built. It's this dystopian world covered in ash where the "bad guy" won and has ruled the world for ages. But the entire Survivor's crew is such a fun group of people in that world! And of course, the magic of Allomancy and Feruchemy is absolutely amazing! So how about all of you? What got you into Mistborn and what is your favorite parts?

Who is going to be at the midnight release?
Demandred replied to Peng the Just's topic in Events and Signings
When I went for the WoR event I just parked in the lot in front of the bookstore. I'll be there with a friend who is working his way through Mistborn tonight -
Interesting. That would be a pretty cool ability, but I don't think it fits with being called division. I would call that like entropy or something. Division to me sounds like something that breaks things apart, like the opposite of adhesion sticking things together. I think Division sounds rather more violent than decay.

He says RAFO like a word. Or at least he did when I saw him at a Costco signing in January.

I think Aether makes a good point. I don't think this means anyone can any ability. Makes more sense to me that a coinshot could use possibly use stormlight or something else as a replacement for steel, but he would still be a coinshot

Brandon did not give any info as to how you would go about doing it, only that it was possible, and that it would require "juryrigging" as he put it.

LDS Influences on Themes (Theology Time)
Demandred replied to The Rooster's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Very interesting observations Todesengel! I actually had thought about posting about the idea of everything having a spirit that Skousen talks about, but I decided against it because it isn't official doctrine. But as we all know that is an idea that is present in the Cosmere -
I went and saw Brandon at the Sandy signing today and got to ask him a couple questions. Just thought i would share this info with all of you 1. Could you make a Rosharan Nightblood? Invest something with another magic to make it sentient? A: I got a RAFO card 2. Could Nightblood be powered by Stormlight? A: Yes. It would take some juryrigging, but all of the magic systems are compatible. It is possible to fuel allomancy with breath (that's the example Brandon gave), or any of the other magics with other forms of investiture. Difficult, but possible.

Could an object on Roshar or Scadrial be somehow invested to the point that becomes sentient, like Nightblood? Or is that an ability unique to Warbreaker's world? Also, Nightblood seems to feed off of Breath, which is a form of investiture yes? Could Nightblood be fueled by other forms of Investiture, like stormlight?

Favorite Brandon Sanderson Story
Demandred replied to Bloodfalcon's topic in General Brandon Discussion
My favorites would have to go in this order: 1. Mistborn: the Final Empire- I just finished rereading this for like the 8th time a couple weeks ago. I cannot express how much I love this story! Everything from the charismatic and at times a little scary Kell, to Breeze compulsively soothing everyone and trying to get Spook to fetch him some wine, to Ham's philosophical questions, to the balls, the looming threat of the Steel Ministry and the Inquisitors......... yeah. The other Mistborn are still great, but the first one has a magic that is I think greater than what is in the others. 2. The Way of Kings- This is a really really close second. In fact, this is second only for the moment until more Stormlight books are out, and only because I read Mistborn first. Kings is a work of art. There is no other way to say it. And as much as I love Mistborn, Kings is better written and the Stormlight Archive is from what I have seen destined for greatness. 3. Warbreaker- Lightsong, the God who does not believe in his religion. Do I really need to say anymore than that? Oh, and Nightblood, the most awesome sentient sword ever!
