  1. Okay I don't think anyone has posted a thread about this guy. The whole concept of having multiple series being part of the same overarching story always reminds me of Feist even though what Brandon is doing is in my opinion so much more epic and awesome sauce. But any ways what are your opinions of the books? I stopped reading a couple of books back maybe at Rides A Dread Legion. I'll probably go back and do a reread now the "last" book is out though. I still love Pug and I'm interested to find out how it ends out for him. Overall I think Feist is talented but the books tended to become more and more episodic and had the inclination to say things were escalating without actually making it feel like anything of importance was happening. But having said that I still think Riftwar Cycle is a great achievement and that the first book Magician, well it's one of the best fantasy books I've ever read. So what is it that makes the Riftwar cycle work for you, which book is your favourite? Or conversely what annoys you about the series, which book was the last for you?
  2. I was under the impression that world hopping involved time dilation. Or is it just Hoid that moves in time?
  3. Which one is your favourite and why? Also which one did you start on? I myself started with Morrowind after finding it at the local game store for ten dollars. And my favourite would have to be Skyrim followed by Morrowind and Oblivion. I haven't played the other two. What were they like? What do you like or dislike about the games/game or what made you annoyed that they added / got rid of with each release? I love how they give you so much freedom but I dislike how that freedom is growing less and less with each release.
  4. I was just thinking after reading through Emperor's Soul about how Shai wanted to find Hoid. And I was wondering if she got further than expected due to her wide realmatic knowledge and if by some chance she got involved with the Seventeenth Shard who also seem intent on finding Hoid. I don't really know where I'm going with this but I think she would be a prime candidate to be one of their members. Anyway what do we think Hoid's relationship with the Seventeenth Shard is it seems like they're against each other. He's meddling and they would like him stop. Who do we think is in the right Hoid or the Seventeenth Shard? And what could their ultimate goal be. This is what I think. I reckon someone from Yolen is at the head of Seventeenth Shard and was once friends with Hoid. Perhaps they began working together a long time ago after the events of the Shattering maybe even before then. And something changed maybe the shattering or maybe something we don't know about. Well Hoid saw that it was absolutely necessary to stop whatever was going on in the universe, perhaps the ascension of Odium was a prime catalyst for this. So Hoid and the Seventeenth Shard who are still working together tentatively go to Sel to stop that crap going down but fail. This encourages the Seventeenth Shard group to stop interfering as things went pretty terribly and this causes the major split between the two. I'm not sure on who is right but I would lean towards both of them being of fairly honourable intentions who just have a disagreement over method. Anyway the selection of Galladon and Demoux is interesting to say the least because neither of them seem particularly powerful to me so maybe they're only the scouts for the group as you don't send your strongest people ahead normally. So this to me shows that they aren't that interested in getting to Hoid. Of course this is all pretty much guess work. But it shows that the Seventeenth Shard have other things going. I know we don't have much evidence either way but I just thought it would be interesting to hear other's opinions on this. Who's good who's bad or otherwise why were they chosen and such. Oh and this raises another question do we know if Yolen is still habitable? Because I was thinking the new base of operations could possibly be Sel due to it being apparently one of the most advanced planets in the Cosmere at the moment.
  5. I want to see Maipon and get to know more about their culture which I think would be interesting due their supposedly more well developed realmatic awareness. I also wanted to see more of Nalthis but that will almost certainly be remedied someday with Nightblood. Something in WoT I wanted to see was more of the novice training that Egwene and Elayne went through it's sort of skipped and yes we all know the workings of it and it wouldn't be that interesting, but I just felt cheated that with Jordan's slow and steady pacing that he could just suddenly skip six months or so. Wanted more Rodele too.
  6. Yeah Skaa it's fine to be slow. I'm a slow thinker too. It means me driving a car is rather dangerous due to the fact it probably takes me a second to register the car in front of me stops. I may have a sort of negative slant to this thread but I did make it in the mind that people are all imperfect and sometimes it can be encouraging to share our little or large imperfections. These things make us different and being different is pretty awesome =)
  7. This. If this happens I would possibly be the happiest person on earth.
  8. That is awesome news. Not that I'll be getting the Tor version of the book... but still awesome. I love the Way of Kings artwork I've even contemplated buying the book again to get the Tor cover. But alas I am a student and money must be carefully spent... on computer games... what can I say, I'm hopeless =)
  9. No I just found out this yesterday too. I was like wait a second what's her last name... hmm interesting. I did wonder if everyone else knew this already but I'm not sure anyone would have asked before. Maybe we should ask Brandon why he named the other planets what he did.
  10. I'm like this. " I'm so interested in what you're talking about lecturer-" then eyes start closing. Could be a real engaging lecture with skits and everything but I'll just be encouraged to sleep by the fact I'm in a lecture... so terrible.
  11. This is all very interesting and informative thank you. And King of nowhere you propose an interesting question, why would Harmony keep the two separate... I think it may have something to do with how they have developed and maybe having both peoples suddenly together may not be conducive to a healthy growth. But what do I know anyhow. Thank you all for clearing up my confusion about what was going on. Forgot completely about the MNP and the TNP being separate.
  12. Zane was my favourite but not sure any more. I do enjoy reading about Sadeas. But my favourite is probably either Spook or Shai.
  13. That we did. And it was glorious in all its splendour.
  14. Okay this may have been asked already... or it might might be obvious but I was wondering how exactly did Harmony change Scadrial? I ask this because if the Northern Scadrial peoples were living at the north pole and Harmony corrected everything are they now living closer to the equator than before or have the magnetic poles been moved? Because my understanding of it is if they still lived at the poles it would be snowy conditions in Alloy of Law. Just hope that made sense and hopefully someone has an answer for me. Thanks =)
  15. This is awesome thank you =)
  16. Happy Birthday Comatose I'm that one dude you helped explain RPG's to =) have an awesome day!
  17. I first bought the epub version of it a week or two after it was released. Read through it, thought it was a nice stop gap treat for a cosmere fan with some really good realmatic information and began rereading Elantris while waiting for WoR. But later I ordered a copy in from book depository (as reading a real paper book is just always better) and it arrived yesterday, and upon reading it again I think it would have to be one of my favourite Brandon Sanderson books if not my favourite book full stop. I love the prose which is much improved, and it's amazing how he can still world build on a vast scale with so little room to work with. The story itself is both personal AND epic with the stakes being so high, if there was any book that represented what kind of stories I want to write it would be this one. It's not without its flaws the resolution was a bit too tidy for my liking but man it was brilliant. And like all good books and all of Brandon's it left me wondering what happened to the characters afterwards, once the story had finished. Just an absolutely fabulous story. And very deserving of its nomination. I hope it wins.
  18. Very fair point. I just found her the most appealing out of all the characters. The multiple personality stamp thing and the psychoanalysis would be somewhat hectic for my already scrambled brain but yeah. Be the one I would choose out of his characters. But I've never been one to put much logical thought into these things.
  19. Well I'm Iredomi, real name Joshua. I hail from the relatively small nation of New Zealand. And I love Brandon Sanderson's books. I got to know his books from his writing for the Wheel of Time. Was intimidated by the sheer size of Way of Kings and the seemingly endless POV switches at the beginning of the book, Kalak to Szeth to Cenn to Kaladin to Shallan, yeah wasn't prepared for that. Anyways a year later I found this site and found out about the interconnective awesomeness of his books and began reading from Elantris all the way to Emperor's Soul. And yeah been awesome. And this site is such a great place full of awesome people and interesting theories. So hello and thank you 17th Shard and all the admins and people that make this site great, just yeah. It's cool this site here, really cool, a place I'm glad to be. =)
  20. So really no one likes Shai?
  21. Welcome to 17th Shard hope you have a great time =)
  22. I have this problem too and I even took geography for four years. didn't help one bit.
  23. Yeah we know everyone has something they're talented at/slightly above average at (or at least they say they are...) but what I wanted to know is what things or thing (could be trivial could be major) are you significantly or less than significantly inept at, that seems everyone else has little difficulty doing. My failures are, obviously, long winded unclear explanations and grammar. But the one I had in mind is my inability to find light switches in dark rooms even though they're right next to my hand.
  24. I'd turn gay for Lord Redeem. Quirky drunkard all the way =P But more seriously Shai. Just... yeah.
  25. Yes that would be perfect. Dang I want to see that movie now.
