  1. I think the dagger Moash uses does not 'kill' the herald so much as it somehow traps their soul (identity?) inside the gem on the hilt.

    From the book:

    Quote

"It's taking me!" the man screamed, then looked down at the knife in Moash's hand. "What is that?"

    ...

When Moash pulled the yellow-white knife free, it trailed dark smoke and left a blackened wound. The large sapphire at the pommel took on a subdued glow.

Was it done this way to keep the current state of the Oathpact intact? The other Heralds POV we get mentions they sense the other's loss

Does this means that they could somehow be freed from the gem later, rescuing/restoring them?

Naturally, if any of this is true, I think it's possible we may see up to an additional 9 versions of such daggers with the appropriate gemstone on the hilt.

    Thoughts?

I saw this idea a while back and thought I would recreate it for people (like myself) who missed it.

So there is a classic forum game that I've usually seen called "yes, but". Usually used in reference to wishes. Basically, the first person posts a wish, then the poster after them grants that wish but tacks on a rider to make it awful, then posts their own wish. And so on and so on.

The Boons and Curses from the Nightwatcher seem ideal for this. Since the bane doesn't necessarily have to be directly connected to the boon granted, this opens up a bit more leeway, but I think it could still be at least mildly amusing to see what we lurkers of the forums come up with.

I’ll start: I want the intellect of a zinc compounder constantly.

Yes, but you'll have the attention span of a goldfish.

I want a wallet that always has the correct amount of cash in it when I open it to buy something.

Yeah. I'm currently reading Shadows of Self. I'm very much interested in the world with Harmony. Looking forward to his interactions with Wax.

Not a spoiler of any sort, but -- it's subtle. When there is direct interaction, I really enjoyed it. I liked the way it's done, too. =D

  4. Man, OB is SO good.

I read WoK and WoR digitally when they were released and listened to them back to back prior to Oathbringer's release. Was a good refresher and brought some of the smaller plots and happenings back into my mind.

I just took advantage of a big Audible discount and used my first credit to get Oathbringer in audio format. Going to listen to it over the holiday to further cement it in my brain. =)

Hi everyone im Christine  from Australia.  I look forward to discussing  the cosmere with everyone. :D:D

How much of the Cosmere have you read about so far?

What is your favorite setting and/or magic system?

"For initiation could you say, "My life to yours, my Breath become yours"?"

"I also do not attempt to steal Breath."

    Is this a trick?

My favorite character in the Cosmere.. That's a hard one. I am very interested in Hoid, as I'm sure everyone is. I really loved Lightsong. I really like the spren personalities like Syl and Pattern... How's that?

I listened to Warbreaker and while OK for about 95% of the book, the narrator made Lightsong come off as a philosophically conflicted surfer-dude vocally. I REALLY liked his character arc and the reveals about his first life towards the end. I liked him a lot despite the imprint/impression the voicework gave me of him. =p

Hoid has only gotten better. I liked the level of his inclusion in OB, as well.

As you have been lurking, you probably know better then to take a cookie, but they are here if you want them. You are exactly where I am in the cosmere. Out of what you have read so far what are your favorite parts? I love the Magic, especially hemalurgy.

Welcome to the Shard! Don't eat the cookie. Have an upvote.

What is your favorite magic system?

I didn't realize until yesterday afternoon that I hadn't actually finished AU - I was only about halfway! I read the Silence chapter and really, really dug it. Wouldn't mind going back there.

Storywise, I like SA/Roshar the most for its (continuing) depth in scale and character arcs. It's most close to WoT, which was my first (long-form) High Fantasy series (LotR's length feels quaint by comparison!). OB felt like a little bit of a firehose with the additional settings/cultures mixing in and the increased insight into the Listener/"Voidbringer" PoVs and expanding Surgebinder abilities.

Magically, I really like the Metallic Arts - especially in the Wax & Wayne era. Less all-powerful Mistborns and more uniqueness in the Twinborns. I liked the slightly shorter and quicker pacing as well. I have a feeling Hemalurgy will come to the fore in later books with more crossover between some of the systems, in potentially dire/sadness-inducing ways. =/

  8. Hello!

I've been lurking around the site and the Coppermind for a while now, reading interesting topics of interest while I was (re-)listening to WoK, WoR in the lead-up to Oathbringer. I finished OB last week. I got it digitally on launch day, but wasn't able to dive in right away, sadly.

In the last few months before OB, I listened to all of the Mistborn books and Warbreaker. I read Elantris and Arcanum Unbounded as well. I haven't read White Sand yet.

  9. Welcome. I hadn't read (or heard) many of the Cosmere books outside the SA besides Mistborn prior to a few months ago when I binge-listened to all the current Mistborn books, Warbreaker and read Elantris and Arcanum Unbounded.

  10. Welcome. I'm new too. I haven't made my own newbie post yet.

I've been stalking the 17th Shard and the Coppermind for a while now, leading up to Oathbringer's release and my journey back to and through the other Cosmere books over the last two or three months.

  11. Welcome. I'm new here as well.

Mistborn is really good. I had read it a long time ago (the first book) and then recently listened to all 6 Mistborn books a month or two ago.
I also read Elantris and then listened to Warbreaker before reading Arcanum Unbound / Edgedancer. I've come pretty much up to date with most of the cosmere stuff only recently and it was fun to actually catch on to the cross-pollination on my own in Oathbringer.

if you liked the first two, you're going to love Oathbringer!
