If one had a Medallion from BoM that gave one connection to Arelon (My memory of Elantris is fuzzy. I think that was the country the events took place in) would you be able to be taken by the Shaod? What would happen if you got taken by the Shaod and became an Elantrian but then removed the medallion?

If one were to have a spike comprised of multiple metals melded together, would it count as only one spike for the sake of Harmony's being able to control the being, or would it count as one of each of the spikes. Would it only grant the power for the location on the body that the spike was placed? For instance:

I would add to this that Wayne was forced to take on a persona and just happened to choose the person who destroyed this girl's father's reputation. That feels like an awful lot of coincidences that work in favor of a plan Harmony has explicitly stated.

I'm trying to put together a couple pieces about how much Harmony has been involved in Wayne's life and the demons that haunt him. Here are the pieces I'm fitting together at the moment: 1: Wayne killed the parents of a child many years ago. Wayne turns himself in to Wax following this and is unable to touch guns again afterwards without shaking. Initially I thought this may have been to build an aversion to guns, but I'm looking at it in light of the compassion Wayne now has for the child. 2: Wayne visits the child on a monthly basis to give her money, but also to reinforce the guilt he feels over the parents death. Wayne or Harmony don't want that pain to dissipate. Though it seems clear that Wayne is able to deal with the pain, it still hurts him. 3: Wayne meets the daughter of a scientist at the party when Wayne was impersonating another scientist who destroyed the woman's father's life. This resonated with Wayne and sparked an emotional connection between him and the woman since she reminds him of the daughter of the parents he killed. 4: At the end of the book, Wayne intends to invest in the daughter's research, which will push science forward. 5: Harmony has expressed an intent to have society progress technologically faster than it currently is. This feels to fall perfectly in line with that goal. 6: Harmony has already stated (through MeLaan) that He puts the pain where it can be handled (referring to Wax, but this feels like a general rule). No one of these steps feels particularly like Harmony is involved with Wayne and yet when looking at the whole picture, it seems likely to me that Harmony decided that the guilt of creating an orphan and never being able to make up for it was a pain Wayne could bear and he uses this to cause Wayne to invest in technological advancement with the money that he never spent from Alloy of Law. If someone would like to fill in the gaps with the direct quotes that these ideas are pulling from, or challenge the theory, I'd love to hear it.

Seekers have described listening for allomancy users as listening for a pulse or a beat, and have referred to the waves of metals being burned in almost musical terms. I'm wondering if anyone has drawn a conclusive parallel with them and the Listeners (parshendi) since they also hear this music behind the scenes of consciousness. My thought is that they are both hearing the background patterns of investiture trying to force its way into our world like happened in Elantris. If so, then I think the Mistborn may be able to offer some secondhand knowledge of Listener forms to the Parshendi, and the Elantrians may be able to deduce the different resonant frequencies of their forms. Thoughts?

I'm wondering if it's possible that the character that we think is Taln (Brandon has been careful to avoid confirming that it is Taln) held nightblood and killed his spren accidentally in the process. I think that has the potential to drive him crazy.

Ok. Thank you for the WoB. Do we have any ideas as to what the stone could be?
-
So, I had an odd thought I figured I could share. I'm beginning to think that Szeth has already bonded to a spren, and that spren was trapped in the odd stone he was carrying around with him. I don't know of any confirmed explanation for the stone, but his Nahel-Bonded Spren being inside would explain why it was so important. Him being unable to use the powers granted by the bond could have something to do with whatever was done to the spren that was trapped. This would mean that Nalan would have had to swing by Taravangian to grab the stone, if he's to release the spren trapped inside. Thoughts?
-
Since the Parshendi have more forms than just the VoidForms, do we want to consider the possibility that humans can form Nahel bonds with ordinary spren and gain something from it. In a similar way to how the Parshendi change in both the physical and the cognitive realm when they bond with spren to gain their non-void forms, maybe a human forming a bond with a creationspren would have impacts on the cognitive parts of humans (though it appears we don't get anything in the physical realm from them)

This is all I was able to find on the kindle app. "Kaladin turned. A short, spindly man was waving to him. The man had only one arm. Who would assign him to be a bridgeman?" Sanderson, Brandon (2010-08-31). The Way of Kings (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 487). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. Checking the rest of the pages around it, I couldn't find anything about which arm it was.

Rayse is the name of the person who took the shard Odium. Odium is actually an idea along the same lines as Honor or Cultivation. Odium is defined (by google) as "general or widespread hatred or disgust directed toward someone as a result of their actions."
-
So I think it's pretty clear that Kaladin is going to have his bridge men as a squad. Does it seem likely to anyone else that Shallan will have her mercenary guards as a squad? She is showing them how to be honorable and I don't think the squad necessarily needs to be loyal to the specific branch if surgebinders ideals, just the surgebinder leader himself. In this case that's Shallan. I think it would be useful to a lightweaver to have a group of fighters as a squad, even if they're not very lightweaver-like.

With the new release of Words of Radiance, I decided to read it on my kindle instead of getting a hard copy. It was awesome. I used the built in features to take notes a I went along, and now finding references to things about the Cosmere became a whole lot easier. But there was a problem: The Kindle app for computers sucks. Really badly. While I could take notes, I couldn't organize them into groups. I wasn't able to jump forward by chapters at a time and had to do scrolling really fast with pages. Admittedly, these aren't the worst things in the world, they're just annoying. I'm wondering if anyone has any Mac apps that they use for Kindle reading that allow them to organize bookmarks and notes into groups. The native kindle app just has too many shortcomings. Also, if anyone is interested, I want to share notes with others who are documenting their readings, so feel free to message me with your kindle account name and I'll follow your notes. Mine is [email protected] or Nathan Oshlag https://kindle.amazon.com/profile/N-Oshlag/32371299

Good call, Moogle. I missed that first quote.

So, the word fabrial is used, but Nalan never actually states that he used one.

So this is kind of an interesting question, but how long has Dalinar been using Stormlight? From his interaction with the Stormfather towards the end, it would seem he only spoke the first oath there, but there are a couple other things that would imply that he has used stormlight before. First, there is his amazing fighting capabilities. We know from Kaladin that Syl, or the stormlight that came with her, grant a surgebinder better fighting instincts. And as we all know, the Blackthorn was known as the greatest fighter of his time. Next, we have an interesting scene in WoK where Dalinar catches the claw of a Chasamfiend, and afterwards notices that his shardplate has broken gems in it. My thought is that he drew on those gems in order to get the strength needed to catch the claw, something that others thought wasn't possible, even in a shardplate. Finally, there is an interesting exchange between Dalinar and one of the healers towards the end of WoR To me this is definitely implying that Dalinar has been using stormlight to both heal himself in small ways, so that wounds that would normally have caused serious internal scarring heal perfectly, and to gain an edge in fighting over just what the Shardplate grants him. This would imply that he has been using Stormlight to augment his fighting for years, possibly before Gavilar's death. What do people think? *Edited for spacing*

"Other curiosities baffled her. A vial of pale sand. A couple of thick hairpins. A lock of golden hair. The branch of a tree with writing on it she couldn’t read. A silver knife. An odd flower preserved in some kind of solution. There were no plaques to explain these mementos. That chunk of pale pink crystal looked like it might be some kind of gemstone, but why was it so delicate? Bits of it had flaked off in its case, as if simply setting it down had almost crushed it." - Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 493). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. In addition, Mraize is a foreign name: “Very well. Amaram is a Shardbearer in the court of Highprince Sadeas. He is also my current prey.” Hearing it spoken like that sent a shiver through Shallan. “And what do you wish of me, Mraize ?” She tried, but didn’t get the pronunciation of the title quite right. It wasn’t a Vorin term. Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 494). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition.

Spoiler Tag Driver's Test for new posters
Rlain replied to digitalbusker's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
This is also a spoiler test -
So this is the second time I'm coming back to this site. I've been here before for a month or so, but it would appear things in the Cosmere have progressed while I have been away and I have a lot or reading up to do (in the forums. I'm well caught up on books a few times over). I just finished my first read through of Words of Radiance, with some highlights of interesting passages, and I'll be beginning my second read through of it with meticulous notes taken of all things of interest. This will probably lead to a large amount of wild theories that I will need to share. I look forward to some interesting discussion, but will try to wait until I'm caught up on everything else before I jump in with something that's been known for some time. Also, I'm glad I was able to grab my tag before anyone else who read WoR.

Thanks for the invite Chrono. I've actually been a Sanderson reader for years, and have looked at 17th shard a bit, but it looks like I'm woefully behind on recent Cosmere developments (Recent meaning last 7 months or so). So we know that Zahel is Vasher, but we have we answered the question as to why Hoid now appears to have perfect pitch? He would need Breaths to get that, unless he has been building it as a Feruchemist, and I wasn't aware musical talent was something they could store. So how did he get perfect pitch? And with the knowledge that Zahel is Vasher, what do we make of the following: Is Vasher expecting a spren to talk to him, Nightblood, or some other entity?

There is the manner of the oathstone that Szeth son Neturo had. Is it possible for his bonded spren to be trapped in there? Also Szeth speaks of hearing the screams of the people he's killed, though I don't have the source on hand. Is it possible that is the scream of the blade he carried? And if so, it's interesting that Kaladin didn't hear the screaming when he caught it. Syl thought the blade was important, though. I find it interesting that Szeth speaks of hearing screaming. I think he was bonded in some form, but the spren is trapped elsewhere which is why he doesn't hear the full extent of the screaming. He hasn't killed his spren, it's just not in the picture at the moment. Adding to this, he was named truthless for a reason, most likely because he had some of their powers of the and thus would be foretelling of their return, which would cause him to be named a liar. Finally, and this seems to contradict what I just wrote, in the into to WoK, Szeth needs to wait the 10 heartbeats for his shardblade. So the blade he uses is clearly not a blade of a live spren, it would have to be a dead one. Thoughts?

In a conversation with Kaladin, he seemed to imply that he had reached the second level of bichromatic breath I'm not sure what this implies, but I found it interesting. Combining this with the fact that Nightblood is there at the end, and how the Honorblades are supposed to drain stormlight like Nightblood drains breath. I'm having trouble finishing the picture, but I get the feeling that group of info is important. I'm also trying to figure out how Nightblood made his way there. Any thoughts?

We saw at the end of AoL that Miles had what appeared to be one of the visions from WoK. He prophesised about the coming of men of crimson and gold. I don't have my copy of the book on me at the moment. But it seems very likely that he actually had one of the death induced visions. What I'm wondering is if that was the first time he had one. Since he's a gold compounder, it is quite likely that he had come inches from death before and gotten glimpses into whatever it is the dying see that cause them to speak out. If he could, then the Lord Ruler could have had the same thing happen and may have known far more about the Cosmere than we thought previously. Thoughts?
