[OB] Nightblood's purpose on Roshar
A Dopey Spren replied to A Dopey Spren's topic in Stormlight Archive
Thanks for pointing out regarding the Warbreaker side of things, I'll change that. I hadn't realised that people had brought this up! Even so, I find him being the destroyer of Fused quite exciting! And that's definitely an interesting theory in terms of the mass production of Nightblood-esque swords. Doesn't that seem a bit risky? You can programme them with any number of commands, and lo and behold, you have a SWMD (sentient weapon of mass destruction!)- 21 replies

[OB] Nightblood's purpose on Roshar
A Dopey Spren replied to A Dopey Spren's topic in Stormlight Archive
I completely agree, but don't forget that NB crave destroying evil, and I think the Fused, after thousands of years of waiting, and brimming with evil and hatred. I think they'd sooner kill themselves with it rather than the KR!- 21 replies

It'll definitely be interesting to see how his use progresses and what it means for the KR now that they have him!- 21 replies

Now, Nightblood is a pretty badass sword, with his sense of humour and intent to eradicate evil in whichever fashionable way possible. Whilst his power is somewhat nebulous as of right now, I am wondering what happens to a Fused struck by Nightblood. He destroys across all three realms, so what does this mean for the Fused who intend on returning to a new Parshman body? I think that NB will be the way to stop Fused from being reborn in the Everstorm. We saw a Thunderclast cleaved in two by Szeth as he saved Lift, maybe it won't be 'reborn'! Personally I don't fee Nightblood is in the Stormlight Archive just for the sake of being in them, he has a bigger roll than shown so far, and maybe this is it? Instead of the Fused going to Damnation, they just stop existing. Thoughts?

stormlight archive Destroyed Shardplate
A Dopey Spren replied to Somber Alchemy's question in Cosmere Q&A
Any piece of a set of Shardplate can be used to regrow the entirety of it. Obviously a smaller piece is going to require more time and more stormlight. As mentioned above, if someone has a larger piece, and is supplied with consistent stormlight, they'll have the set before someone with a smaller piece. -
[OB] Sja-anat corrupting Shardplate?
A Dopey Spren replied to A Dopey Spren's topic in Stormlight Archive
I completely agree. I was thinking in terms of spren in the area, rather than spren bonding to the KR (which I don't believe is the case). And definitely a valid point in terms of things not being what they used to be, (it means that lore that we find out from Urithuru may not be applicable now...)- 3 replies

[OB] Sja-anat corrupting Shardplate?
A Dopey Spren replied to A Dopey Spren's topic in Stormlight Archive
Does anyone have a link or thread which would contradict this theory? It'd be great to know whether or not this could be applicable!- 3 replies

Seeing that it is technically possible, and what we know of Hoid, I'm sure he'll find a solution one way or another!

If we were to follow the idea that Shardplate consists of lesser Spren (windspren for windrunners, creationspren for Lightweavers, gloryspren for Bondsmiths), Sja-anat's ability to corrupt becomes far more dangerous than imagined. Maybe her ability, by corrupting the Spren, result in a Surgebinder not being able to summon their Shardplate (as she has now influenced them). We know that hungerspren don't get corrupted, (and they don't seem to be the kind of Spren that could make Shardplate). We do see gloryspren, creationspren, lifespren and many others corrupted by Sja-anat's influence. This could be just one aspect of her ability, and if the theory that that is the manner in which Shardplate is made, she seems even more dangerous than previously thought. The ability to remove the KRs defence leaves them in harms way. I do realise that their are other types of Spren which are affected by her abilities, maybe these are for different reasons than mentioned above. What do you guys think?

[OB] Shardplate + Fourth Ideal?
A Dopey Spren replied to A Dopey Spren's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hah thank you! I thought I was onto something, seems others beat me to it! Realised how helidors are associated to Bondsmiths (on the Ten Essence table) and that they're gold... leading me to the conclusion of gloryspren. -
It'd definitely be dramatic!

So, I'm not sure if there is a thread already for this (if there is, please link it for me!) I feel that Shardplate isn't necessarily of the Spren that a Surgebinder has bonded with. We have seen large amounts of windspren circling Kaladin, as well as a massive torrent of gloryspren in regards to Dalinar. I feel that Windrunner Shardplate is actually made of windspren, and when described from Dalinar's visions, I'm pretty sure it had a blue cast to it. If this is the case, could creationspren be for Lightweavers (as their Order tends to be artists) and possibly lifespren for Edgedancers (due to their Regrowth ability and their Spren's love for gardening, etc). This would also explain why a KR can don Shardplate without it screaming as a Shardblade would, it isn't one of the higher Spren. Maybe the fourth ideal give the Surgebinder the ability to have some sort of bond with lesser Spren? (Such as Kaladin with windspren, and Dalinar with gloryspren near the end of the book). Let me know!

I feel that what Dainar summoned to activate the Oathgate wasn't a Shardblade, but lightening (described as being 'bright white' and 'his power') 'His power', meaning the Stormfather, could correlate with this idea, as lightening is a definite 'power' when it comes to storms. Regarding Oathbringer, Dalinar has a connection with that blade, as he had bonded with it for such a long period of time. He was told that, whilst the blade hates him, it is less than it hates everyone else (I think the Stormfathe said this). I think that at some point, Dalinar will figure out how to revive Shardblades as that may fall under his abilities as a Bondsmith. Just theoretical of course!

Each person will have a different background, culture, upbringing, etc, so particular characters will and won't indicate for them. It's not as black and white as 'simplistic characters don't appeal to people', etc. By looking at it as a writer, you can tell which characters are actively forwarding the plot, and how so in particular ways. Every character, their mannerisms, personality, etc, and their interactions with other characters, influence where the stories going. I feel that Sanderson has made every character essential (even if they're easy to dislike) to forwarding the plot. I also find I think intriguing to see such diverse opinions in terms of characters liked and disliked, makes you realise the scope of the SA as well as the community!

Welcome to the Shard! Enjoy your stay!

We know that the Cryptics had been watching Elhokar from previous books. Elhokar started to say the first ideal (and glowing in turn), its possible that this resulted in something? I don't think it's been specified enough in terms of whether he/she could just transfer back to the Cognitive Realm once the Surgebinder -to-be has been killed off.

Welcome to the community! Don't take any baked goodies, they have spikes in them!
-
Welcome! I'd recommend to not take any baked goods! You never know what'll be in them...
-
The Cryptic which Hoid has, was originally Elhokar's. Hoid does say that he has many secrets, and he isn't a very nebulous character, so it's possible for him to bond with the spren, feeding it truths, rather than swearing to particular ideals.

I don't view woman as either Jasnah or Shallan. Every person has their own background history which makes them who they are. Shallan's jokes got her through the roughest times with her brothers, and uplifting them, whilst their father was wreaking havoc. I don't think it's a matter of 'nerds' picturing woman to be like 'blah' or 'blah' but how they fit into he the stories plot and how the character arcs interweave with one another. And no, I'm not a beta nerdy virgin.

That... is a plot twist and a half...

Don't forget that they've all been thrown into events which were thought to be ancient lore. They're trying to understand what's happening, and their attention is split across many things. I'm sure they would feel concerned regarding family etc, but they are also trying to take responsibility for the bigger issue at hand. Thats the way I perceive it as of right now!

I had a suspicion she was Vivenna as well. With the facts you just posted above, I think that makes it a solid theory!
-
Sanderson is more than capable of creating extremely solid characters (as we've seen with many other characters). We need to keep in mind the manner in which she was raised, her naivety, etc. Also the fact that, although cringey for some, it creates diversity, and actually contributes to her character's arc. Personally she's not in my top five, or even ten, favourite characters, but those things that make her cringey set her apart from all the other characters. Dont forget she's a somewhat spoiled lighteyes who's been through an incredibly painful childhood, leading to her not being the most stable (leading to her imagining being other characters.) In terms of drawing on the pad, etc, that could relate to the Order of the KR she's in, as they tended to be the artist type of people. I do know what you mean in terms of wanting to skip to another chapter, mainly because I found a lot of the other characters very solid and easy to associate with (whereas I couldn't as much for Shallan). I think it's all down to viewpoint, and as an aspiring writer, I can see how Sanderson is capable of showing such diversity across a multitude of character's in an assortment of manners. Personally, I feel it's necessary to have characters that are so different, and even not pleasant to read about, otherwise the story will end up bland as all the chapters are the same. Also, welcome to the Shard! Don't accept any cookies, they're dangerous.
