Who is to say that if each person does see something different, why can they not see different colors? I remember a couple of years ago there was that debate over the color of a dress. Some people saw white/gold and some blue/black. Pretty opposite colors. In a fantasy world with investiture who knows what a painting could do. Nice catch by they way. I am reading Oathbringer again and almost to that part.

Just because he has the shard of hate does not mean he has to be a raving lunatic. Ruin for example, despite his full intent to destroy Scadrial, was calm and calculating. Ruin came up with an entire plan to be released and further subtlty manipulate others to his own means. From his talks with Vin he seemed like a sane person in my opinion. So why not Odium? Odium has killed other shards. Even in real life serial killers and psychotics can be calm, calculating, and blend in well into society.

Being brief Dalinar's and Kaladin's stories were great. For Dalinar I liked seeing how much he has changed and grown from being the Blackthorn. He had some emotional moments. Kaladin's arc was good like always but I really liked in this book how BS changed up the formula. Kaladin did not swear new oaths and did not almost single handily save the day. Kaladin failed a lot, but he is growing from these failures. Shallans was mixed. Her personalities became tiring to me after awhile. Her best parts though were with Hoid. I am fine with her choosing Adolin, but the marraige felt really rushed though.

I agree with this. After finishing I was disappointed how the ending was handled, it did not feel right. After pondering it for a bit, I came to the same conclusion. Hopefully more will be answered in book 4. Guess that is why it is a series after all. Overall I would put it behind WoR and equal to WoK. But they are all close and my favorite BS series. Oathbringer does a lot of good things. It is much bigger on scope since the first two were mostly contained to the shattered plains. We even get to go to Shadesmar. Lastly I enjoyed the extra POVs and more attention to the other characters.

If I remember correctly they collect fees as well for letting the other Highprinces use the crown's soulcasters as a form of tax. Between Jasnah, Dalinar, and Navani running things the Kholins will be just fine.

I gave Oathbringer an eight. There were so many things that I liked about it, I will not attempt to list them all. My favorite scene was when Shallan/Wit did "The Girl Who Looked Up" story. I also enjoyed Rock's POV chapter. Along with that, it was also nice to spend time with others POV besides just the main three characters. Finally there were some really good reveals, such as the Oathpact, Dalinar's past, and the secret of the true voidbringers. My biggest complaint is the Shallan/Kaladin/Adolin dynamic. Shallan and Kaladin barely speak throughout the entire book. Which we all know they have plenty to discuss. Like Kaladin said, last book they had an intimate moment in the chasm, now it is like it never happened. At times they act like they are just co-workers who hang out once in awhile. The resolution to this dynamic at the end was underwhelming. Also Shallan's personalities became tedious as the book continued on and that seems to be not entirely resolved still. Finally points off for Shallan's and Adolin's cheesy dialogue before the wedding. I face palmed after reading that. In conclusion Oathbringer was a great book, I could hardly put it down except for going to work. This is still my favorite running series and 3-4 years for the next book cannot come soon enough.
