theory [OB] Were the Fused originally created by Honor?
Dryone_2 replied to shawnhargreaves's topic in Stormlight Archive
OTOH there is this quote: So apparently Odium gave the eternal respawn capability to the Fused and Honor gave the same to the Heralds. I could imagine that Honor created the oathpact as a reaction to the Fused, because otherwise the humans would have been doomed. -
Looks like someone really messed around with gravitation and division on this planet. Skybreaker?
-
There's also lots of female shardbearers around.

[OB] Cultivation being deevy(ous) to Dalinar at end of Oathbringer
Dryone_2 replied to Walin's topic in Stormlight Archive
Dalinar is not the only one hearing voices of the dead on Roshar. Szeth hears them, too. -
Ah, I think I didn't make myself clear: the Unmade were imprisoned by the perfect gems and the perfect gems were buried in the east wing. When the Everstorm hit, the Unmade were released rom their gems, but the gems are still there. As with the King's drop, Odium doesn't want those lying around. It's also possible that the Thrill was imprisoned at one time and released by an Alethi king. After that, they decided to bury the remaining gems.
-
When the first Everstorm hit Kholinar? I don't think so.
-
His series of romances fits "journey before destination" quite well, don't you think?
-
Although I don't believe that the Fused are looking for that spren but for three perfect gems which are buried there. Sja-Anath, Yelignar and Ashertmarn were imprisoned there and freed when the Everstorm came.

My point is that the void surge symbols do no have mirror symmetry, only rotational symmetry. Mathematically, if you combine two mirrors along different axes (eg. first left/right, then up/down) you get a rotation. But I'm just nitpicking. The fact that there is a relationship between surgebinding and voidbinding symbols is more interesting. I wonder if the fact that one side of the voidsurge symbols is twisted means that this surge is working differently for each of the connected orders. That is, one order uses it like a surgebinders and the other order uses it in an inverted way. Example for Renarin: illuminating vs. being illuminated.

[OB] On pacing, and what is yet to come
Dryone_2 replied to shawnhargreaves's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the Aimians were entrusted with the dawnshards when the humans arrived on Roshar. Obviously you couldn't let the humans keep those and destroy _another_ planet. Instead they got 10 honorblades which are more limited (theory: Dawncharts give access to all surges). When the KR appeared, Ishar was hellbound to limit them with ideals, lest they destroy Roshar. -
There are several events happening around the Recreance : 1. The parshmen are enslaved by capturing a crucial spren 2. Urithiru fails and is abandoned 3. Honor is dying 4. The secret about humans' origin and Odium becomes known to the KR 5. The KR revoke their oaths and leave their shards 6. Honor dies The puzzle is how these are connected. My theory is that 1-3 are connected: enslaving the Parsh also disabled Urithiru's spren and broke an oath that leads to Honor's death. Then 3. causes Ishar to develop a plan to get rid of the KR. He reveals 4. and convinces Nale to continue the Skybreakers but use them to kill all other KR. Ishar's motivation could be that he doesn't believe that the oaths will restrain the KR enough to stop them from destroying the planet. Or he fears another desolation, which could him get killed and landed in Damnation again.

The voidish symbols don't have an axis of symmetry, they are rotated around the center.

What boon do you want? I've only Breath for two weeks left, and I want to use stormlight instead. Done. As your curse I take that talking sword of yours.

I think this form of punishment was mentioned in an earlier book.

Could that person be Mraize? (obviously drawn by Veil)

Adolin has a suppressed love/hate relationship to his father. When his mother was killed, he was old enough to realize that Dalinar was lying about the circumstances. Dalinars drinking and distance to his sons because they reminded him of Evi didn't help. As a consequence, Adolin has severe commitment phobia, as proven by his many short relationships and his try to break up with Shallan.
-
Don't you think that Shallan's state of mind is a little OT and might better be discussed in another thread?

[OB] Speculations on the title of book four.
Dryone_2 replied to Turnblade Jade's topic in Stormlight Archive
Szeth, and iirc the planned title for book 3 was "Stones Unhallowed" Also see chapter 118 Szeth pov: -
I think when he ends on one knee, he starts summoning Maya. It does not mean that she falls into his hand immediately. After that part the text at least once explicitly states that it takes 10 hesrtbeats for Maya to appear. Then seven seconds, then she warns him about a Fused attack while she is dismissed, then he starts counting but blacks out when the roof crashes, then Maya talks to him again, he says "I'm trying to stand up, Maya! Storming blade". After that it is not said how long it takes to summon Maya, but then Renarin arrives and Adolin asks Maya to go with Hrdalm for now, and she reluctantly agrees. I think Maya wakes at the seven seconds moment and then gains the ability to talk to Adolin even when she is not summoned. Also see Darvys comment above: Maya shines bright after the seven seconds summons.

[OB] Favourite OB moment / Character ?
Dryone_2 replied to Stromblessed's topic in Stormlight Archive
All of Lift's lines are great: Also: and and Lift is just deevy. And the best thing: she will never change! -
My comment was partly tongue-in-cheek and basically from a story telling pov. Adolin had to be healed twice in the final battle and he still had to rest at the end.
-
That are my thoughts, too. The 2nd ideal could be anything along the lines "I'll care for those who were left behind." Fits the scene where Adolin saves that boy and also helping Maya - and all other Deadeyes. I can imagine Adolin and his family starting a major Shard revival program. Didn't Dalinar consider confiscating all shards and letting him/the king about their use?
