Having just finished Elantris on Audio book. I the whole time was wondering just how much of the pronunciations are correct between all the Books I have listened to Mostly of Michael Kramer, at the end of Way of Kings narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, Kate pronounces Sadeas, (Suh Day Us) while the whole entire book, Michael was saying what I assume to be the more common Sadeas (Sad Ee Us), while she joined Michael in the pronunciation in the 2nd book, they still were not united on all the words. Palanquin, was the word I most commonly heard between Palan *Quinn* and Palan *Keen*, I know it's slightly off topic from Elantris. But I believe it holds weight. I believe if any has a WoB on how to pronounce names for certain it would be greatly appreciated.

FINALLY, Thank you for clearing up the WoB reference, I had not caught the explanation for that one, nor had I bothered being confused enough to google it yet. BTW, Google RAFO, Srsly. I want a Brandon Sanderson signature that has Rafo on it. I think it's his superhero catchphrase. Well, in his case nerdy freeze frame high 5 moment from the 80's. Anywho, Yes I have read that particular one and it's not clear, it sounds like there's more to it than something like an honorblade wielded by a Shin monk protecting them from Szeth who visits Shinovar to warn/murder everyone depending on his mood. It sounds like more than just prowess that since NB Feeds off Investiture, perhaps it can leech it from the opponent as well as the wielder. Could be a fun fight.

So is it safe to assume that if a regular sword pierces physical, shard blades pierce cognitive/physical(Not simotaneously), and Nightblood/Awakened Blades pierce all three? It is often said that Shardblades cut the soul away, Spren bound people of at least the 2nd set of words can heal the wounds inflicted by a shard blade, Spren come from cognitive realm. So does that mean Nightblood can sever spirit, physical, and cognitive. Meaning that he can cut through shardblades? Even live spren blades are that of the cognitive realm "Shadesmar"? All hypotheticals, I'm confused on the three realms listed. Also, does that mean that awakened blades are far superior than Honor blades, or Live spren blades not only because "He" can slice all three realms simotaneously? The implications of this are dangerous if Kaladin and he ever cross weapons again. Kal is likely to spring to attack quickly if he sees him. Any thoughts?

Yes, Hoid is pretty similar across all of the Sanderson Novels, Zahel is definitely a gruffer version of Vasher, though I would say it's close enough. It wasn't until reading S.A. the 2nd time after reading warbreaker I connected the color references with Zahel and Vasher. Though I don't remember him making much effort to say things like that in Warbreaker, He was also not the main protagonist of the book, important as he was. Also, Elantris is not read by Michael Kramer. It's read by another, Jack Garrett. After having listened to Michael Kramer's voice for now 7 books, it's so hard to hear someone else. He sounds as though he is a more realistic version of Quagmire almost. (Edit), Hoid is in Elantris as well, and his voice is TOTALLY Different in this book but again, it's a different narrator for the audio book. On a side note, How different would it be for a book about the COLOR OF LIFE, read to the blind. How many different descriptions would be required to use. How different must it have looked inside their heads. Not all blind people just see darkness, just as most colorblind people see colors differently, not just black and white. Often times people can have corrective blindness with strong lenses or lasic. However, I wonder what impact it would have to speak of the color of life to people that have experienced no color. Thoughts?

I think I need to read WarBreaker again, where does it state that about Nightblood? Did I miss it?

One last time before I continue Arcanum Unbound
Knghtstlker replied to Knghtstlker's question in Cosmere Q&A
I'm probably going to do my best to skip around AU, it seems as though the general consensus is that AU's Mistborn stories have greater weight after era 2. So as much as I don't want to I'll wait. Which means I need to skip at least two of them, I'm going to try and appropriate funds to knock them all out HAHA. Something in my bones hates skipping around books, Had I not been introduced to Stormlight Archives First perhaps I would have begun reading in a production order instead of the order I did. I love the length of the stories of Stormlight Archives, I hope to one day get Hardbacks of them just to feel the weight of the tomes I have conquered now twice. I love the cross story references, I love how Hoid pops up, and if I had not followed a little infographic that mentioned Warbreaker was tied into S.A. and the fact that I got it on sale "Didn't know they did that on Audible" for less than 5 dollars. I probably would have yet to picked it up though like always I'm glad I did. Elantris is in it's development chapters which tend to be the chapters I hate the most, though they pay off by the middle of the book, getting introduced to a new character in a new universe is never as fun as a continuation, I think Mistborn Well of Ascension had to be one of my favorite transitions between book one and two I've read in quite some time. -
True, but it is common that shard blades are summoned in and out of plate, a Dead Spren Shuriken I believe would be far too dangerous. I'm sure a living spren could form into anything it is required to, but I wonder to what end. Is a thrown shuriken any more deadly than perhaps a augmented quick sword, Shallan changed Patterns size before. Maybe if they really wanted to throw something they could carry thrown weapons, with WindRunners augmented by shardplate, surely anything they "Throw/Lash" could do massive damage regardless of what it hit, considering Kaladin was able to crack Shardplate with his bare feet in the fight with Adolin and the 4 shard bearers.

One last time before I continue Arcanum Unbound
Knghtstlker replied to Knghtstlker's question in Cosmere Q&A
So biggest gripe, I understand, that that particular story will be lost on me, but I doubt I'll have the ability to get all three books of era two, here, and read through before Oathbringer drops into my online library, and I'm more worried about getting Edgedancer out of the way, before I continue on in the series, if I have to, I will spoil it. Just trying to see how much of a spoiler it will be, I don't think I could restrain myself to just NOT reading the portions of Arcanum unbound. Thanks for the replies. Everyone, but I think I'm going to have to just backtrack on this one after the fact with Era 2 after Arcanum unbound, Elantris is queued up in my library waiting for me to finish the last third of HoA. . Stormlight Archives: Read twice, Oathbringer pre ordered. Mistborn Era 1: Done soon. Elantris: Queue'd Warbreaker: Read twice. Arcanum Unbound: Not purchased Please, help me out getting the rest of the books lined up in this list so I can get caught up with all the Stories with Shards of Adolnasium. What about Rithmatist, and steelheart? stuff like that. I know about White sand, but can't get it until I get back to the states. Graphic Novels don't do well in Deserts. -
Okay, one more time, Arcanum Unbound. I have read "Listened to on Audible", The first two Mistborn books, working on the 3rd right now of the first trilogy. From what I've gathered so far, there are spoilers both directions, and the spoilers for the Mistborn aren't as bad as they would be if I read era 2 THEN reading Arcanum Unbound. I have read both Stormlight Archive books, and they are my preferred novel, I have also read Warbreaker. My buddy introduced me to Sanderson before we came to Iraq, They have been an awesome distraction from the suck, and I love listening to them as I drift off to sleep, I've found that in a often darkly lit room listening is far superior to reading, Especially when I'm just a few nods from a full snooze, These make the Novels come to life in my head. I have not read Elantris yet, though I will have in when I get my Audible Credit in a day or two, after I finish Mistborn Hero of Ages. I have already pre ordered Oathbringer, and will have one more credit in November. In November, Is there any book I need to read, either before I read Arcanum Unbound? Or, to help bring more context to Arcanum unbound? Having assumed I've read all Stormlight Novels, The first Mistborn Trilogy, Elantris, Warbreaker. What beyond those books are in the Cosmere that will be required reading for putting the whole Cosmere together?

Yes, I found it helps to enhance the colors in a photo editor. However, if someone has access to the software used to emboss patches on hats and shirts, that software can be used to reduce the amount of colors and it also clean up the lines quite a bit. I can’t do it from my room as I’m staying in a Containerized Housing Unit “Chu”, and have absolutely horrid internet incapable of downloading such software, and I definitely can’t download that software at my work computer. So, if anyone has access to such software willing to clean it up a bit it would help a great deal. Altering the lines to make them pop a bit more after printing.

Nice. I'm going to have to start writing practice sentences like "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." So that I use every letter when writing. I can now recognize most characters just from writing these few phrases, It's slow'ish for now, but will be easier in time. If I can get one cleanly enough and dumbproof enough, "And maybe some additional confirmation from canon approvals". I'm thinking about tattoo Ideas. Something I believe has gone over my head. should I strike through the symmetry line to signify beginning and ends of words?

Top line is missing last word. Don’t know if this is correct. It’s letter for letter. But I’ll have to size it differently. Though I suppose it’s not as bad as it could be. Standardizing the size would help. Then a stencil could be made. Thinking about printing the book mark on card stock and gluing it on top of several pieces to make a makeshift stencil, then printing a size to roughly match.

I'm trying to print them out, but the spaces and stuff are messing me up, I've gotten a bunch of lines per page, but the colors are too distorted. I don't have very good software, anyone think they can take a better shot at it then me? I'm trying it's just not working very well. HAHA. This is the basic crop I took to remove the borders from the image so I can lay multiples next to each other. Unfortunately, it's gotten too distorted. Ideally, they would be landscaped. Because that seems to favor the Alethi script more. Since the spacing and neatness is paramount. Also cant figure out how to print multiple on the same page.

4 to 5 feet across! What are you the Hoola Hoop Warrior! Chakrams are more like 8 to 15 inches across. not enough to sever a Chasmfiends limb I imagine, Very hard to plunge into somethings heart also keep in mind if there is 2 1/2 feet of blade pointing away from you, there is equal amount of blade pointing at you. It doesn't seem practical to me. swords require caution but not as much as Chakrams. Plate wearers could probably pull it off.. inner forearms are more protected. Think of the scrutiny from the Alethi Light eyes. You would have to duel constantly just to maintain your reputation, Assuming you're using the 8 to 15 inch chakrams you could hardly kill a man without a headshot , since getting to the spine from the front would be tricky.. If, however, you're using your Hoola Hoop of death. Your movements will be impaired though with training I'm certain a person could be a combat hoola hooper, but I'm 100% certain, your nickname would be "Grey Fingers".

So, what would be needed to further our understanding? Do we just need to eventually see more Glyphs?

So awesome Thank you! I’ll have to email it to myself so I can print it st work tomorrow! I plan on printing it out. I’m assuming in the Image dump the L’s and R’s are correctly placed? I plan on writing at least the first ideal of The Immortals words with a straight edge, I’m no artist sadly, but copy pasting images seems seriously tedious. Lol. I don’t know how you’ve managed to get so many images built of them. I have awesome respect for you. Lol.

Thank you all for your replies, I Half expected my post to fall on glazed eyes. I am very intrigued by the books. I’m still re-listening to the first two Stormlight Archive books, I’ll have Arcanum unbound on the 15th. I’ll get the 3rd Mistborn in November. But I’ll also have Oathbringer when it is available. I’m very excited about every book I get. I’ve been away from reading too long. I also love the idea of the Alethi Script and Thaylen glyphs, though I have not seen any in books. I plan on getting them eventually lol. On that thought, does anyone know if there are any spoilers for the 3rd Mistborn book in Arcanum Unbound? I’ve tried to avoid any particular deep theory threads for fear of spoilers. Haha!

Do you have blank pages we can print out and ream ourselves? Maybe even condensed so that we can write it smaller, cutting the lines up into smaller sections, fitting more than 10 lines on a page lol. Btw I know it's a dying thread but it is going to get big again in the wake of the 3rd book.

A lot of interesting theories here, I'm re-reading WoR right now, however. Reading this thread is bringing details back to me that I had forgotten largely. My thoughts on the matter, for the Deadspren blades, they mention several times that they are require to walk around holding the blade for 10 days, perhaps that creates a physical landing location for it's summoning position? On the thrown weapon itself. I favor that they may do more than some imagine, keeping in mind that thrown weapons tumble. However, a Shuriken would be a poor choice, Too much bladed purchase for a weapon that cuts flesh, stone, and steel with no more resistance than perhaps a stick through a waterfall. You want more handles than that. If you have one available, pick up literally any flat object and imagine blades protruding from it. Sounds like a poor choice. Chakrams may be an interesting choice but considering they are likely fighting Vast creatures like thunderclasts, as well as humanoid types, I feel like a sword would be a more wise choice unless you can line up a multiple lashing and then you can just "Drop" it at anyone you choose. A thrown blade could be useful, in situations. Does anyone remember if Kal throws Syl? I don't recollect and I won't skip around for my own skip around

Isn't Kal supposed to have completely black hair? I believe it was mentioned that dark eyes often have full dark hair, by Dalinar, because they don't often seek marriages outside of Alethi. Light eyes tend to have mixtures of black based on marriages of arrangements and alliances. But Alethi hair breeds true. The skill you used to draw them is immaculate though. I think your Shallan lines up with how I imagine her the closest, but I do like your drawings.

Hello, I'm a recent addition to this cosmere. I've been listening to Brandon Sanderson's books since I left America in March for my Deployment to Iraq. I've made it through 5 books, and I am excited about the 3rd mistborn book I will read this month, and the third Stormlight Archives book I will read in November when it is released. I have also listened to Warbreaker. However, I want the entire Cosmere in my library, Can someone list ALL of the books from Sanderson's collection in the Cosmere? Also, should I read the short novella Edgedancer before reading the Oathbringer? I have not had an opportunity to get any of the short stories. Also, it seems that Mr. Sanderson is quite involved in his community, where is the best place to keep my finger to feel for his pulse In this community barring social media?
-
I'm extremely jealous of people with more free time than me to dig into the depths of this. Also, I only have read 5 of the books in Sanderson's collection, and by read, I mean listened to on Audible. Is there a collection of artwork that has only come from the official Cosmere creators? Plus a guide to the Thaylen, and Alethi scripts? I'm trying to pool them all together, But if someone has perhaps a "File" of these things I would love to swap emails.

I love this topic and I love languages reading along with what everyone is doing, but has anyone made any notions of writing some of the Quote's, from Nohadon's "The Way of Kings"? Or perhaps, the First Ideal of the Knights Radiant? This thread dissects and categorizes, but is there any accurate fan made phrases or sentences one could perhaps look at or should I write out some of the ones that come to mind, and bring them here for "Proofreading" to make sure they are accurate?
