  1. Apothecaries hate him: How one shash-branded slave is disrupting the knobweed sap market. We tried all the pancakes in Yeddaw... Wait till you hear about the 10th one... Dullforms hate her: How a Parshendi warrior assumed Stormform with this one weird trick... Naked, foreign princess enters king's chambers...What happens next will surprise you... METABOLIZE FOOD INTO STORMLIGHT: How one girl and her pet voidbringer cracked the code. Kelsier stands boldly before the Lord Ruler and begins to speak. What happens next will shock you. AMAZING ETCH-A-SKETCH SKILLS and 17 other things you didn't know you could do with allomancy.
  2. Maybe you've already seen it at this point, but there is also a very detailed rules and etiquette post under the 17th Shard topic. I didn't notice it till I had been on here for a few days myself. Hope that helps!
  3. Welcome! I'm also new, both to the 17th Shard and to forum life in general, so you're not alone!
  4. Welcome! I hope you enjoy Shadows for Silence and Sixth of the Dusk soon! They are quick reads, and I feel like they do a lot to flesh out the Cosmere even further. Great, quick, memorable stories.
  5. To those of you who have read the prose version of White Sand, are you glad you did, or would you recommend I (who have read the first graphic novel but not the prose version) wait for the subsequent graphic novel releases? I want all the Cosmere info I can get, but I also don't want to ruin the story for myself prematurely. Advice?
  6. To anyone who has previously attended a Brandon release party at BYU--how early would you recommend showing up, and what is the parking situation like? (I'm guessing it will be busier than previous ones since his readership is continuing to grow--just not sure what kind of crowd to anticipate.) So excited!
  7. WOW! What a debut post! Awesome observations!
  8. Welcome! What is your favorite Cosmere book and who is your favorite character?
  9. Welcome!
  10. Welcome! I'm brand new as well. So excited for you to read through the rest of the Cosmere! It's so worth it! If you loved the Mistborn trilogy (and who couldn't?), just wait till you can see even more of the big picture by reading more and more of Brandon's work! It's amazing!
  11. This chart was immensely helpful to me as I was reading through the Cosmere:
  12. This is helpful to me as well--thanks! I am so amazed by how nuanced and layered Brandon's storytelling is. Amazing how he can hide clues in such plain sight. Genius! Excited to dig into the Coppermind.
  13. Welcome! It's exciting to see lots of new people joining around the same time as me--I was a little worried about getting in over my head. Glad I won't be the only newbie, haha!
  14. For your next reads, if you're wanting to understand the Cosmere best, my personal order suggestion would be 1) Elantris 2) Warbreaker 3) Stormlight 1&2.
  15. Agreed on Wayne. Such a hilarious, unique character. I often feel like Brandon must have been laughing out loud to himself while writing some of his dialogue.
  16. If you haven't read Era 2 yet, you are in for such a treat! I agree that Sazed is an excellent character. Keep reading; the Cosmere will richly reward you!
  17. Welcome! (I'm new as well.) Your observation about "perhaps" is interesting! One thing I've really liked about Brandon's writing is how rarely he falls into habits like that. He has such a diverse vocabulary, but he also keeps his writing very accessible and non-distracting, which I think is a really difficult line to walk.
  18. Welcome! I'm new myself, and also avoided this forum like the plague until recently for fear of spoilers. Glad we both made it reasonably intact, haha!
  19. Even though reading Warbreaker before WoR is ideal, it might be smart to pick up Warbreaker now, while WoR is still fresh on your mind, so you can see the connective tissue. Also, there are very minor points in Edgedancer that will be more interesting to you if you know what went on in Warbreaker. Either way, I'd say definitely try to read both before Oathbringer arrives.
  20. Hi there! I'm excited to join the 17th Shard! Years ago I went to one of Brandon's signings on a whim (I hadn't read any of his books previously). I waited in line and spoke with him, however, and was so impressed with him that I wound up purchasing Elantris and the Mistborn trilogy right then and there. Sadly, though, the books sat on my shelf for a long time, waiting to be read. Once I began Mistborn last year, however, I became thoroughly absorbed, and I've enthusiastically devoured the remainder of the Cosmere since. What an amazing author, and what a beautiful literary universe! I'm super stoked to join a community that shares my new obsession! Looking forward to learning more about the Cosmere and interacting with awesome people!
