  1. Wot: Perrin, he's usually the most level-headed LotR: Gandalf, because he's Gandalf Star Wars: Thrawn--I read the new book recently, and it makes him more personable and very much likeable and Link (from the Zelda games) because he's awesome.
  2. At least you aren't a Darkeyes
  3. I didn't mean it to be a negative criticism, I actually like the concept. It may be something very similar to that, in the end.
  4. I like it! My first thought is that your topic is sleep. Not sure if that's what you intended though.
  5. I literally lived 30 minutes from Portland just a few months ago, within driving distance of the path of totality. Now, I'm well to the south of it. Oh well, it will still be an interesting thing to look at. By the way, don't forget to wear your eclipse glasses! You still get UV light exposure, even though the sun is blocked.
  6. I agree with your Avatar, Percy Jackson, and Eragon assessments. I love the Avatar TV series, and the Percy Jackson books are great. The movies? Just about the worst thing I've ever seen on TV.
  7. Well, all I know is that my purpose in life is to make plants grow without being smothered by ash and hope the nobles don't notice my daughters.
  8. You're closer than I am...still have about 12 to go, but I've finished the game. I may wait until the second DLC comes out later this year, and then really dive back into the game. That being said, I'm very excited to see if/when they start teasing future Zelda stuff (even if just for the 3DS).
  9. I like the thought behind this theory. Even though I don't think it's 100% accurate, I'd have to say that knowing Brandon, there will be some major twist at some point that will be something just as eye-opening.
  10. It's say he certainly fits what I've always imagined Sazed to be.
  11. That's true too. I guess maybe I wouldn't be very good at casting for movies! Though sometimes adaptations can work out ok.
  12. Yeah, I can see that. Right after I posted, I saw somebody suggest Freeman as Breeze. That definitely feels like a good fit to me (except that I always imagined Breeze to be somewhat pudgy).
  13. I agree! Liam Neeson would be perfect for Sazed. Morgan Freeman would also be an interesting candidate.
  14. That would be good. It's also be good to learn the fingerlings now. It takes a bit of memorization, and it's not necessarily intuitive.
  15. I would say it's no harder to learn than any other brass instrument. Once you have the fingerings down, it's all in building up the lip strength to play the instrument. Very different, obviously, than wind instruments. But still fun. It's also works out different muscles.
  16. Anybody else playing Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes? I got hooked a couple of months ago.
  17. Anybody on Republic Wireless who could recommend any of the phones in particular? I'm currently with Verizon on an iphone, but I want to make the jump to Republic Wireless and Android both. Just trying to decide which phone to go for.
  18. Crazy, I did clarinet and bass clairnet in the concert, but the band director wanted me to go brass for marching band. So I learned brass (baritone).
  19. The Thrawn Trilogy is very good. Timothy Zahn (the author) is a great author--all of the books I mentioned are by him. Is it the best place to start, I'm not sure. But it's not a bad place at all. I vaguely remember liking the Hand of Thawn duology better, but I could be mistaken, it's been several years.
  20. Ah, I remember marching band. Busy time of the year. What instrument do you play? As for rereading, you'll probably be fine. I just tend to forget details that might be important later on. Which, let's face it, with Sanderson, there could be a detail on page 42 of book 1 that will be important in book 7.
  21. It's definitely a bit different. I agree, there's some of his stuff I go back and reread on a regular basis. The Emperor's Soul is not one of them. Mistborn, Elantris, Warbreaker, Rithmatism, The Reckoners, and Stormlight Archives all are. Stormlight is a killer--I try to reread the series so far whenever a new book is coming out. Which means by the end of the series I'll start it all over again just after the release of the 2nd to last book, just to finish in time for the last book. (Did that sentence make sense at all??)
  22. I'm currently going through a Star Wars kick. Just finished reading through the Thrawn trilogy, and will start with the Hand of Thrawn duology probably tonight. After that, I'll probably read the (relatively) new book Thrawn...can you tell I've got a theme going here? Anybody have good suggestions for other Star Wars books? I don't mind older (Legend) books or new (canon) books, it's all good to me.
  23. I agree, all good ones. But really, can you say that anything Sanderson has done so far hasn't been good, Cosmere or not? It took me a while to get used to Alcatraz and the different style of writing, but it's still a good series. I'm still trying to figure out how he gets all of his concepts for magic and how these different worlds going without getting dull.
  24. Ooh...asking me to pick my favorite Cosmere book is like asking me to pick a favorite child! Well, I would have said the Rithmatist, except it apparently got demoted from the Cosmere. Failing that, I'd have to go for Stormlight Archive...and probably Way of Kings so far. It's exciting to see how he builds up Kaladin from the beginning of the book. Also, I'm a sucker for long series of high fantasy.
  25. Hi everybody, just wanted to introduce myself. I've been reading Sanderson since Elantris and Mistborn (the first) were new books. Even though I've let myself get rid of the hard copies of most of my books in favor of e-books, Sanderson is one of two authors I have to get the book itself in my hands. Can't wait for Stormlight 3!
