Already, based on his kids, I suspect he was an abusive, if not molesting, dirtbag. So I'm not mourning him, but its also a tough proposition for me, assigning my morality to a character is something I unconsciously do, but do try to avoid.
-
I would say that Shallan seems to know: "to bring forth the fruit of her sin, the proceeds of her most horrific act."
-
"She carried a concealed weapon that she hadn't used. She felt foolish for not even getting it out that night." p560 "...Before she could consciously think of what she was doing, she was struggling with her sleeve, trying to get the Soulcaster out. It was the only thing she had resembling a weapon. No, that was stupid. She didn't know how to use it. She was helpless. Except... Storms! she thought, frantic. I can't use that. I promised myself. She began the process anyway. Ten heartbeats, to bring forth the fruit of her sin, the proceeds of her most horrific act." p643, both hardcover Also I'll eat my numbered first edition if Shallan did not kill her father. The theme is repeated so often, unless they are obtusely subtle, with nary an example of misdirection. It might have been partly accidental, but she did one or several actions that lead directly to her father's death/murder. (Not that I mourn him, its obvious that he was incredibly abusive to his kids)

What are those terms then? IIRC, he prefers the term Shard versus Shardholder, when referring to Leras/Ati/Harmony, but is Splintered an official term?
-
Is that confirmation? Thought used "Shattered", and would Endowment qualified as "splintered", or is that the Aona/Skai state(where they cannot be picked up ala Vin)?
-
Do we even know that, unless I missed a extraneous to WOK quote, or just that Honor is dead? (ie Preservation and Leras)

I'm spoilering this, unless you have finished, but BS's website has all the interior pictures: http://www.brandonsanderson.com/book/The-Way-of-Kings/page/63/The-Way-of-Kings-Interior-Illustrations The spoiler is also rather image heavy, and will keep the thread neater. Not quite sure if that was where you were leading with your maps idea, and rather than introduce you to our groupthink, you should continue in your line of thinking, just know what some here have thought on the maps.

If you are on that line of thinking, You might also look up the symbol(and accompanying theory that seems ubiquitous to the maps in the books

Really liked it, already archive splurged. Thanks for the link. What are the exact systems of magic? I get that you need "first X" for enchantments, but couldn't quite figure out how the dueling worked, other than the zombie's silent casting.

+1 I like the holy grotto reference especially since in a well, or something similar, you can see the stars during the day. Maybe the massive star patch is part of the shattering of adonalsium.

That and how our main heroine is broken, powerwise. I always felt like the siblings were fairly static and made the same mistakes over and over again (though you could say it was just Seth making mistakes over and over), but then the ending was just silly. I could understand her being more powerful than the Fairy Queen if she AND her brother were wielding the sword. But that was just a little too much from Kendra alone. I liked the idea, and liked the setting, but really feel like Mull could have used a better reading group/listened to the criticisms.

I've never been sailing in a hurricane, and have only been real sailing twice, but you can in fact sail up wind.

A day of visualizing High Storm and Stormlight

Though this one seems more ethereal and delicate. More like the Mists from TFE, etc, than the Highstorms. -
A day of visualizing High Storm and Stormlight
Riddlesinthedark replied to Vikter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Easily the most impressive storm I've ever seen was several years ago when two storm cells merged and just smashed into Provo. Broken trees and quite a bit of rain, but I'm not sure it has really anything on a Highstorm. Since a highstorm can pick up a tall, fit, very muscular man (Kaladin has been carrying around a bridge for a while at this point. He'd be 220 at the very, very minimum), can we calculate the necessary wind speeds to push him around like a kite? But this thread needs more storm porn. I'll get it started. -
One of the reasons we no longer have 3-foot dragonflies on Earth, ignoring easier vertebrate growth, is the much lower oxygen percentage compared with 65+ million years ago; not funny business with the Earth's gravity. While "lower gravity" might have some effect (see whales vs elephants), so does oxygen pct. and island gigantism/dwarfism. I think I like stormlight fueling animal life, though.

I'm a couple years behind you two. I started the summer before PoD's came out, and it was an enternal wait for the next book, little did my 10-year old self know... -
Does that make Hoid's story even more interesting?

I'm in, its the kickstart I need to finally start this reread. -
I get that, I just feel like it falls under early installment wierdness.
-
I'll play.

Also, does it really feel like the Horn and the Eye were kind of forgotten by RJ? One more to go, but I just get the feeling like there was too much power creep or that it was some early installment wierdness*. *I did not link to you-know-where, and cannot be held responsible time invested there because of your googling.

Remembering that, physiologically speaking, we always see the world upside down. And with our brains are just switching it around to make sense of "gravity=down". Since our brains are plastic, growing new neurons, and to some extent dynamic, shifting to new paradigms would occur but isn't. That paragraph is a little jumbled, but there would have to something (in my opinion and understanding) constantly and permanently altering new neurons as they form. I almost wonder if it is similar to Mat Cauthon felt about the 'Finns, that they were in his head, spying on events. That might make the Nightwatcher a much more powerful player in the future.

Teacher Suspended for reading Enders Game?

The argument for Politics over other spheres is older than feudalism, and Plato and Aristotle both make sound arguments. -
Also the 10 Deaths, and the 10 kingdoms. Given the heavy use and symbolism of the number 10, I do not know why anyone would lean otherwise.
