I grin. A chuckle escapes my lips. With a thought I banish the heat. I lower my hand. "Very good. Creative and somewhat advanced for so early a stage.You can open your eyes. In time you'll learn to do such things and more on instinct alone. We'll not push you too hard too fast, but you have the fundementals of lesson number 1."

You will feel tired, heat, cold, pain, or even despair. If you give into these you will fail." I call a concentrated sphere of heat. "If your mind is truly ready capture the heat." I backup and launch the sphere at him."

"What would you do to live again? You have the strength I think to make use of certain techniques that I have mastered over the eons. You say that you can't miss what you don't have. What would you do to know who and what you are?"

Despite myself I dismiss one of my blades, smile, and clap Fadran on the shoulder. " I do. You are capable. Having an expert as a teacher cannot hurt."

"Think about it this way. There exist dimensions piled on dimensions. These never intersect. They run parallel. The space between them that touches all realms are permeable. Through a properly trained mind you can enter and exit at will. They can be bent and molded by a trained will. You can create worlds where you can retreat in times of trouble. You can spirit travel to other realms. You can lock things away in a manner that will make it most difficult for others to learn. You can also give fits to those that are trying to control your mind. It can bring discipline and strength when necessary."

I nod slowly. I understand what he is referring to. "I would have waited, but I think that I should teach you at least the basics of mindscapes. If a feeling like what you felt ever comes again you might be able to trace it through the mindscape to the realm that it originated."

I watch Fadran's behavior and I set my jaw. I must help him. I reach Fadran. "You are unwell. What did you see?"

I follow after Fadran as he travels northward.

"Indeed. We can discuss the ritual and other things once we are safely away."
