  1. Here’s a weird statistic the news keeps saying, mostly about what’s happening in New York. They keep saying that the majority of deaths are from the black and Hispanic communities. If this fact is true what’s causing those communities to contract Corona more than the other races/ethnicities of the city? Some news say it’s because there’s more of these two working in the health industry but but other news sources don’t say that so it’s interesting that the news is targeting these two communities more than the rest, especially when looking on Wikipedia what the racial makeup of the city is and it shows 44% white, 25.5% black, 28.6% hispanic, 12.7% asian and .7% first nations/native american. Looking at that makeup wouldn’t the majority of any single group be white? Where is the news getting their facts from?
  2. Anyone having trouble doing the Delivery@Door service from Gamestop? Every single time I call in it asks me for a remote access code and their instructions on the website doesn’t mention anything about needing a code. I really want to pick up my copy of FR7R but since they’re doing Delivery@Door only I can’t get it. Edit: For some reason the call wouldn’t work on my phone but it worked on my dad’s phone. Got FF7R and it’s so much better than the original was! I’m 4:30 hours in and I’m loving all the new character moments (Marle giving Cloud a hard time being a bad friend, Tifa looking after this guy named Marco, Tifa’s cocktail prep) and I haven’t even gotten to where Cloud meets Aerith in the church. Before I didn’t know how they could turn just the opening Midgar section into a full game but with all these little moments added in I can’t wait to see this extended to the rest of the project when they get to Kalm, Cosmo Canyon, Costa Del Sol, Wutai and Neifelheim. I would love to see the other games, 1-6 and 8-9, get this treatment. Out of all the characters my favorite for seeing them returned to form is Tifa since she’s not a lightning bruiser girl but a sweet girl who happens to look gorgeous. The actress did a good job conveying that sweetness. We might need some new categorization because of the original being called the best and this being better than the original.
  3. Wow, that PS5 controller kind of reminds me of a Stormtrooper skin for a Star Wars game bundle than the main controller that comes with the console. This makes you wonder if the main console itself will be black and white as well or if it’ll go the way of the boomerang controller. Anyway can’t wait to get FF7R in a couple days!
  4. About to watch Monty Python’s Life of Brian for the first time. Hope I like it as much as the Holy Grail. Edit: Finished watching Life of Brian, currently watching the supplements, and I found it above okay but not at the good level. I’m more a fan of the humor from Holy Grail and the show but there were some jokes I did like here. I was surprised by the nudity that was visible but it at least was equal opportunity since we get both a couple men and a woman. The supplements included with the dvd are two commentaries, one with Gilliam, Jones and Idle, the other with Cleese and Palin, a trailer, five deleted scenes with commentaries, the original British radio ads and the documentary film The Pythons. The box includes the digital transfer, subtitles and image quality as supplements but I don’t count those for obvious reason. There’s usually a booklet essay but I bought this sealed and there was no booklet so I can’t read the essay about the film.
  5. Was going through the tvtropes page for viewer gender confusion and there’s so many characters I’m surprised made that list. One from the Pokemon side was the Hoenn character Gabby, part of a reporter duo that pop up throughout the story, where people didn’t realize she was a woman until ORAS. Another is Atreyu from Neverending Story. Either I must be very good at telling male and female characters apart or everyone else is being an idiot.
  6. I just watched Yellow Submarine and all I can say is that I don’t know what I watched. I couldn’t tell you what the plot was since the sound mixing was so bizarre with the dialogue being super soft but the sound effects and music being super loud. It was to the point that it probably should’ve been a silent film with how soft the voices were. The music also just comes out of nowhere and doesn’t make sense why that song is playing. Now I like weird and kind of like the Beatles but this was too much of the wrong kind of weird. It says something when Cirque du Soliel had a better adaptation of Beatles songs than a Beatles film.
  7. Watching the final season of Once Upon a Time. More dull than I remember considering I’m at the halfway mark of the season. The only characters I actually like in this final season are Alice, Wish Hook, Rumple, Regina, Drizella, Tiana and Gothel. Even when I first watched it I never liked the Henry, Cinderella/Jacinda and Lucy story, especially since Lucy doesn’t ever feel like their child nor does she resemble them, and since that’s the “A” plot it doesn’t help.
  8. 40 hours? You need to aim for 80 hours! You need to be twice as good as them!
  9. At work yesterday one of the rooms got flooded from a dripping ac unit. This room is supposed to be a meeting room but for the past couple years has been used as a technology repair room for one of the tech guys so my mother, the maintenance head and me moved all the stuff out so that the maintenance guy could get fans in there and dry the carpet out over the weekend. The maintenance guy called his people to find out who turned the air down since the only people who were there this past week were the three of us plus 4 of his cleaning people and the three of us know not to mess with the units, I tend to forget where the one for the unit in question is since I don’t usually go into that area, so it had to be one of them who did it. He somehow narrowed it down to this one lady and she vehemently denied it but from what I understand she is getting her pay docked for the damages.
  10. Here’s how this has affected my family: My dad is a truck driver and his boss usually deals only in entertainment related ventures, like concerts, trade shows and the rare big wedding which needs sound or lights, and since he doesn’t want his drivers doing anything outside the entertainment industry he sent them all home and since the base is in California my dad had to be flown to us. The day he was flown out was the same day the order came in. Because of how last minute this decision was my mother and I have spent almost everyday at the stores trying to get ingredients to make meals since we had enough food for 2 but not for a third. Same goes for toilet paper. He’s already getting on our nerves with his laziness and coughing without a care, it doesn’t take long for my mother to get annoyed with him but I have a lot more patience so for him to be getting to me already shows how bad it is. A couple days ago he had gotten a text from the gal who writes the checks and the way it was worded we’re now wondering if he’ll even have a job to return to when this is all over. I work for a school, never my choice on this, and while schools are closed all employees are still being told to come in unless their work can be done at home. So many are using this as an excuse to catch up on their Netflix watching but my mother insists on going in no matter what, epidemic be damned. One coworker is currently in quarantine because his son was out of the country for some missionary work and his son came back on Tuesday or Wednesday so now the whole house is under quarantine for two weeks. What makes this interesting is his supervisor gave him a very large project that he can’t do now and the other two guys never do anything normally except go to the campuses or watch movies. One other coworker has a son who works as a server so who knows if he’s making any money right now. My sister, who lives in California, isn’t fazed by this at all and still plans on hanging out with coworkers, one of whom actually spent some time with someone who turned out to be positive, and still plans on going hiking and being around people.
  11. Finished playing God of War 2018 and I honestly can say it’s one of the best games I’ve played. Seeing Kratos so mature and calm was so nice after his rage and revenge of the original games and him being a father protecting his son was touching. I really liked how it started out as a simple story, taking his dead wife’s ashes to the top of the highest peak, and turned into so much more. Kratos and Atreus’ relationship ls with the other characters was also great and whoda thunk Jormungander would be such a sweetie? Not many Norse figures compared to the previous games amount of Greek figures but considering there aren’t as many Æsir or Vanir compared to the Greek Pantheon or as many recognizable monsters it makes sense, especially since one of the characters is actually Celtic! Since this game is practically the beginning of Ragnarok I’m expecting the next game to have Thor as the main villain or have Freya rally the Vanir to avenge Baldur while a third Morse game would have Odin as the main villain. Since we did have hints at the other mythological realms, Egypt, Mesoamerica, Shinto, Celtic, maybe we could get some figures from those places, maybe even some Greek gods coming to Midgard to get revenge on Kratos for what happened in Greece with the fall of Olympus.
  12. Finally finished Wild Cards. It started out kind of slow but once it got to the post Red Scare it got really good. My favorite sections were definitely the 60’s & 70’s with The Great and Powerful Turtle and Mark Meadows. There was one interlude that was so dull and boring that when I finished it I realized nothing happened in it and these are meant to bring the timeline gaps. Definitely interested enough to read more but it’ll be some time before I head back to this universe. As for what I’m going to read next all I can say is I’m going Skyward.
  13. Finished Lego Incredibles last night. I liked it more than Lego DC Super Villains since they actually had the fun factor and took enough liberties with the films to make sense why they’re building stuff and to get around stuff like Syndrome killing Supers. My only complaint is the game felt like a minor title with a mini AAA budget since it didn’t look as polished as Lego Star Wars, DC, Marvel or LOTR along with not having any bonus levels like the others since there’s only 12 here and they could’ve easily had bonus levels based off of the other Pixar films considering they already had Pixar included for the Pixar Family Builds that gives the red bricks and gives a Pixar character like Dory, Flik, Woody, Merida and Wall-E. Next to play is God of War (2018)
  14. Finished Lego DC Super Villains. It was an okay Lego game, not quite as goofy as previous games were. Now playing Lego The Incredibles and this is pretty funny like a lego game should be since I’ve done a few of the Family Build Pars and it’s goofy! One was built with Reflux and Elastigirl getting into Screenslavers cage, where she ‘unmasks’ him in the movie, and they build this huge machine that picks up the rug to find the key! It’s so ridiculous it just felt like Lego. I hope Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga is goofy but since Disney doesn’t want Star Wars to be silly I doubt it.
  15. Not really a bad day for me but I feel bad about all the businesses being closed or affected by the coronavirus. I read some posts on Criterion Forum about how it’s affecting the entertainment industry and my mother acted like people worrying about having a job, or even a business, once the scare is over is nothing for them to worry about. She just doesn’t get that the projected closing times are estimated to be about a month and while big companies like Disney and Universal can weather a bad month a lot of these smaller businesses and festivals can’t weather a bad month. It’s like she doesn’t care if these people will be jobless or not because “the government is compensating them” is her excuse and I know exactly how she would feel if it affected her personally if our school died if the students didn’t return if we closed for a week or two.
  16. I’ve seen other people put it in the ‘Twilight and Fifty Shades’ category as well (as in ‘what do women see in this guy???’) so take that as you will. There are some things where it’s excusable because it was a different time but there are others where it wasn’t right then and still isn’t. While I didn’t like the story I do appreciate that Darcy becomes a better person unlike Edward, Bella, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steel.
  17. Last week Criterion Collection has their bi-yearly sale and I bought the 100 Years of Olympic Films box set. There’s 53 films and for the price I paid it was 3.77 per film and that’s not taking into account the book that comes with it that talks about each Olympic game and the restorations. If you’re curious on what the films are I’ll put them in a spoiler tag to save space. Quite a lot to list! The longest and shortest films are LA 84 at 284 minutes and Ancient Greece 1924 at 8 minutes. The only games not represented here, either because there wasn’t any footage to find or it was too degraded for the IOC to use, are Antwerp 1920, LA 1932 and Lake Placid 1932. I am by no means a sports fan but I do enjoy the Olympics so that’s why I got this.
  18. I’m someone who loves traditional fantasy but for my own story ideas I always have them post-medieval, anywhere from industrial revolution level to modern, since I wonder so much what a fantasy world would be like if it did progress and wasn’t stuck in the 14th century for 6000 years. One of the aspects I like imagining is how the race relations between humes, orcs, elves, dwarves and other fantasy creatures would change since it would be incredibly unrealistic for the ‘always evil’ race to stay evil and very bad for the ‘always good’ races to always have the moral high ground. Then there could always be the conflict between traditionalists and the modern folks over whether magic or machines are better similar to the ‘old is better vs. new is better’ conflicts we have these days.
  19. Same. I got halfway through and just stopped before restarting it a year later because the final book was coming out and I just wanted to finish that series for good. What really killed that series for me was the main character himself and the overglorification of the elves. I guess this series is what killed any interest in elves for me, do like them but not as much as most fantasy lovers do. Currently reading Wild Cards and I’ve had to put it down a few times for life reasons and because a couple of stories just got really boring to read in one go. Nearly done now but I’m interested enough to go read the sequels though it’ll be a while before I get back to this universe. A book I just couldn’t get into was Pride & Prejudice. I guess I’m not into bad relationship stories where the guy is abusive or manipulative and the girl still wants to be with him.
  20. 1. Make veggies taste like candy, but still be healthy, so that more people would eat them. 2. Everyone has the equivalent of $2000 in their bank account at all times so that they can pay rent and eat. 3. Sanderson can get a book completely published in one month no matter how long it is.
  21. Watching a fan project of a show. Chronological Once. Pretty much it’s Once Upon a Time in chronological order and excludes Wonderland and Season 7 since Wonderland was never released on video and 7 is way too convoluted to do though their reason is that the season is trash. I’m only up to part 6 of 29 and Emma has yet to appear since the point here is when the Charmings have met but not yet gotten together. Some storyline flashbacks have already finished, like Frozen, but others are still in progress like the Queens of Darkness. Going to be fun when it gets to the ‘time skip’ flashbacks like the Return to the Enchanted Forest in 3B and the Camelot story in 5A.
  22. Currently playing Lego DC Super Villains. It’s neat playing a game where the villains have to save the day because the heroes have been indisposed by another villain group pretending to be heroes. You also create your own character but I’m surprised how often they’re sidelined for the DC villains in the levels.
  23. Maybe. I just remember with the first boss I had to grind a bit since the natural level up I was at for it I kept dying since the attacks of Hero and Yangus were practically chip damage and the boss was killing them in two hits even when I used potions. The furthest I think I got was after the villain is actually released after the 7 Heirs were disposed of. Didn’t even get to the endgame itself though part of that was because I was lost trying to figure out where to go for the next story point even with a strategy guide to help since this one was on the spoiler free side.
  24. About a month back a coworker sent me a text that was offensive to me and since I’ve had time to reflect on it could be interpreted as sexual harassment because of the context. I deleted the text on impulse so I’m going to have to use a data recovery program to get it back so I can have evidence to file this with a supervisor or HR.
  25. I tried playing that game back when I had a PS2 and I couldn’t believe how slow the leveling up was. For the first boss I needed to be level 5 just to have enough money to buy potions and to have enough hp to survive and it took me a couple hours just to get that off of enemies only giving out 1 & 2 EXP, even when you get halfway through the basic Slime still gives out 1 EXP which sucks when you’re grinding. I did manage to get pretty far into the game but the grinding killed it for me since I didn’t like having to stop the story for around 5 hours just to be strong enough to survive the bosses.
