Great! I thought this thread would get more traffic so I am glad another is willing to share.

Guess people are too embarrassed by their reading material? Just want to know if iPhone pictures can be uploaded here straight from the phone or not before trying.

  2. Quick! The SAVE file has been corrupted and everyone in Undertale has been replaced with a character from a Sanderson book.

Who do you think is depressing enough to replace Napstablook? Motherly enough to replace Toriel? Has legs hot enough to replace Mettaton? Can sell ice cream as well as the Nice Cream Man? Tough enough to replace Undyne?

This is just meant to be a fun thread so go crazy with the replacements if you want!

  3. I wish he would come to the DFW area, that's where I live. I probably could do a road trip depending on where the closest one is, like if it's Oklahoma City or Louisiana I could do it, especially since it's being released during my vacation, exactly 1 week before my birthday.

Wait. How can Galavant fall flat? That show was ace. The adult humor in that show rivals Archer but with song.

Your right though you prob will be in the minority not liking Firefly lol!

i ll def agree about Last Airbender. He tanked that from the great toon material with his dumb changes. I guarantee if he hadn't been so bullheaded all the Books would have made live action easy. How dare he make fire benders have to have actual fire in order to Bend! That pronunciation of Aang...painful.

Which was weird since I normally like stuff similar to Galavant but it just didn't do it for me for some reason. I didn't really crack a smile or had a quirk at the corner of my mouth.

I feel. That pronunciation made me think they were talking about my family or something (that's our last name). And I just love how earthbenders do a bunch of supposedly-synchronized-but-not-really-synchronized punching moves and they get ta-da! An awesome wall of dirt! (Hope you can sense the sarcasm.)

I thought Ella Enchanted was extremely disappointing as well. Followed about 8% of the actual story. I wish I could give it ten, but...I just can't. Yep, Eragon and Percy Jackson are all on that list. I mean seriously? Introducing Kronos in the second movie? That's a big no-no.

The pronunciations were so horrid that I kept mentally correcting it when I watched it. I really didn't like how all the good guys were white but all the villains were Indian. I understand having the nations being represented as different races by having the Fire Nation being Indian, Earth Kingdom supposedly being Blacks (M. Night had mentioned if Book 2 was made that the Earth Kingdom would be majorly Black) and the Water Tribes being White I guess? Now if he had went more having thought it out better then it maybe would've worked, but this guy is famous for not having anyone edit his scripts for him.

It just makes you wonder what he was thinking or if anyone on staff even bothered to say "hey wait that's not what his name is & fire benders don't have to have flames to bend." He even says in interviews he wanted to make this cause he had such a great time watching the toon with his kid. So was he lying about that? I know the creators were furious and couldn't do a thing about it sadly. Waste of everyone's time including M Nights, he could have made serious bank if he stuck to the proper things in the yrs that followed.

It makes you wonder if he misunderstood the point of the show or thought he could 'improve' it (like how water, earth and airbenders actually need their elements present but firebenders didn't I guess). Maybe if he didn't try to cram 22 episodes into 1 hour and a half film... I tend to think on this film that it had a twist.. That he could take a good story and ruin it.

Brandon is talking about writing order here, not release order. There are two publishers (plus the novellas likely will be self-published or with a small press) so schedules are going to overlap probably.

I realized after posting that I should've said writing order and not release order. It's more trying to figure out how the calendar will look than anything. The last bit though surprised me since the wording is that he wants to go Stormlight 4, unknown book and then right on to Stormlight 5. Knowing how long those take it surprised me that there won't be much of a gap, you just know that unknown book will be written in three months tops.

  6. This group is going to be one big joke:

    WOT

    Spoiler

Man takes 15 years to write 12 books and dies trying

    Game of Thrones

    Spoiler

Man takes 20+ years to write 7 books

    Kingkiller Chronicles

    Spoiler

Man takes a decade to write 3 books

    Lord of the Rings

    Spoiler

Man takes 17 years to write one book

If you get the joke you get a cookie!

But... that's a very accurate description! The purpose of the thread is to explain plot badly, noty excellently!

But it doesn't give context! If someone came along and read that they'd wonder "Why break into a library to steal some sand?! And does his grandpa being late have to do with this? Is he a thief?" so it explains the plot badly, but accurately.

    Hullo.

Recommendation #1: Read the Way of Kings when you have time. It is one of the best books ever written.

Recommendation #2: Accept the cookie. Not only is it delicious but it will give you superpowers. Only boring people read the fine print.

#1 I'm doing a, hopefully, straight read of Sanderson so I'll be getting to it after Mistborn Era 1. My only regret is that it's the small paperback that's over 1200 pages so it's going to a pain to hold.

#2 That would depend on the powers. If it gives me teleportation like Nightcrawler then I'll eat it. If it basically turns me into Aquaman then no thanks. I'm that picky with superpowers. ;)

Check out Arcanum Unbounded. It's all the short stories in the Cosmere. Came out last November. So you don't have to go get them somewhere else. Although I do recommend the Dangerous Women and Rogues compilations as both being quite good.

Also, welcome! Here's a bunch of upvotes.

When I was talking about the shorts I meant I wasn't going to pick up Dangerous Women just for Silence. I do own AU so I've got the Cosmere shorts covered anyway.

  10. Pretty much this is where you can talk about any form of entertainment that you did not enjoy once you had finished watching/reading it.

The latest one for me was Divergent. The premise sounded interesting but Tris just did not gel with me at all. Reading her thoughts wasn't really that enjoyable and she did not hit the good notes that made Katniss great to read. The only good thing was when Four appeared since he was a great character.

This one might be controversial but I did not enjoy watching Firefly at all. It bored me more than anything by the end of it. Yes I watched it in the actual order. The characters were either unlikeable, dull or made me question why I was supposed to be routing for them. Sadly the only character that was likeable was the companion, I forget these guys names, because she was the only one who wasn't horrible or dull to watch. I did get the movie afterwards to see how it ended and maybe have something good come out of this show and felt the same. This is coming from someone who enjoys watching Whedon's stuff so that tells something was bad about this show.

Also didn't enjoy Galavant when it was on. It was dumb and the jokes fell flat. The first season was too bad for me to even try looking at the second season.

Transformers. I only saw the first film and that was enough to swear me off the films. I liked the designs of the Autobots and Decepticons but everything else was garbage. Give me the cartoons any day.

I'm not even going to comment on the universally agreed Eragon film (enjoyed the first two books but was getting sick of the heros attitude during the third. The other characters kept me going to the fourth), Last Airbender (sadly I saw this in 3D) and the Percy Jackson films.

I think you'll find once you start Mistborn that you really won't be interested in much else. The Cosmere devoured me whole last September when I discovered Way of Kings. I kind of did it backwards though as I started with Stormlight Archive and pretty much went in order from newest to oldest.

As soon as I finish Malazan, I'm going to read Way of Kings again for the first time since knowing the Cosmere existed. I picked it up at B&N based on the cover art.

I'm one of those readers that loves reading interesting and different stories and I'm interested in knowing more about Roshar, Scadrial, Sel, Nathis and the other Cosmere worlds. I'm kind of interested in doing a chronological read once things get more complete just to see the history unfold. But anyway, I became invested in a different way than the Mistborn way by being introduced and interested with WOT, getting excited after White Sand and becoming a lifelong Sanderfan after Elantris so I'll enjoy anything Brandon writes at this point.

  12. I'm currently reading Scarlet, book 2 of the Lunar Chronicles. I had read Cinder earlier in the year and loved it. When I'm done I'm going to be doing my Sanderson Read, which I had started back in May with Elantris, by reading all of his library in order of release. I can go straight from Mistborn 1.1 through Alcatraz 4 before needing to buy one of the 7 I don't own just yet.

Don't know if I'll take a break, even a one book break, to refresh myself but I'm going to try going all the way through without reading anything else from Mistborn to Oathbringer since I think I won't be getting to most of the later stuff until that one, but I'm not sure yet.

WELCOME! It'd be a smart decision to decline the cookie offered by StrikerEZ. They tend to Ruin appetites.

Let me make an educated guess here: Cookies are offered by the dark side, libraries sometimes give out cookies, there's a series about evil librarians... StrikerEZ is an EVIL LIBRARIAN!

Have you read the sequel to The Way of Kings? Have you read any of Brandon's other books? Do you know about the Cosmere?

If you've only read WoK, then I'd suggest reading some of Brandon's other books before continuing on to Words of Radiance, because there are lots of Cosmere hints in it. If you didn't know, all of Brandon's fantasy books are all set in the same universe on different planets. I'd recommend reading Mistborn first because that one is really good. It's split into two sets of three books, the first trilogy being set during a more traditional fantasy era, while the second three (and there's a fourth coming out next year) are set in an industrial revolution era. That's all in the same world as well.

After Mistborn, I'd suggest reading Elantris and Warbreaker. Both have some minor hints in the Stormlight Archive, so it's always fun to see those when you read through the Stormlight books.

If you've already finished WoR, I'd recommend reading the rest of the Cosmere books, then go back and reread the Stormlight Archive so you can catch all the little hints.

Anyway, welcome again, and have fun!

I haven't yet read The Way of Kings, shocking I know, since I got distracted by other books like the rest of WOT, the Percy Jackson sequel series, Lunar Chronicles and other stories. So far I've only read Elantris, White Sand 1 and Alcatraz 1. I have all the books (minus short stories since I don't feel like collecting the things their in just for one story) except for W&W (wanna read Era 1 before grabbing them), Dark Talent, Words of Radiance, Steelheart and Firefight (I have Calamity on account of Black Friday having a sale on signed editions). I'm going pretty much in release order so my next read is going to be Mistborn: The Final Empire.

And yes, I know about the Cosmere.

The Apocalypse Guard is not in the same universe as the other non-Cosmere works though. It is related to the Reckoners (and by extension Mitosis) but not any of the other stuff as far as I know. Legion, Rithmatist, Snapshot, the other stuff, are all on their own.

I know they are all separate universes, but what if they had someone working for the Guard who monitors the multiverse looking for possible worlds similar to the Reckoners Earth but is dismissing the other Earths for looking too 'impossible' (the United States islands of Rithmatist, the 'extra' continents and exclusion of France from Alcatraz) and thus are not part of the universe.

I think that's where Legion 3 will be published.

I would hope so, I haven't got the first two yet. I'm almost hoping the collection is done similar to AU, but done like a record being kept by someone, in a similar role to Khriss, at the Apocalypse Guard?

  17. Let me make sure I understand the release order being posted:

    AG 1

    Unknown Novella

    AG 2

    Unknown Novella

    AG 3

    Mistborn 2.4/W&W 4, Rithmatist 2, Legion 3 (unknown order)

    Stormlight 4

    Unplanned bizarre book

    Stormlight 5!?

I hope the earth based stories collection finds a place somewhere in there, maybe between Stormlight 4 and 5?

  18. Hi, I've been a lurker for a while and finally decided to make an account.

I only started reading Mr. Sanderson's books last year but I've owned one for longer than that, the book being The Way of Kings. It took me a while to get around because I spent a long while reading the Wheel of Time, I know Brandon wrote the last three but I'm not sure whether they should count or not, along with not actually having his other books.

As you can tell from the title I'm also an aspiring writer and my username is the name of the main character from my main fantasy story I'm writing.

Hope to enjoy my time here!
