I was wondering what the crystal-like shape in front of Tanavast was - a representation of a Shard? But with Cultivation having the Nightwatcher I wonder if this one is a representation of the Stormfather somehow. Or it's the Wind- it looks much more like some of Kaladin's unusual Wind moment like parting the highstorm in OB.

I was assuming it was just a gemstone, since stormlight has the power to infuse gemstones?

Battar is sooooo pretty. Might be my favorite of the endpaper portraits (definitely my favorite of this set; I need to go back and look at the others).

  2. I have no idea what's going on with the rock but these are all such fun theories. I am here for any option with the rock that implies Kaladin survives this book. Based purely on Ideals and temperment, Kaladin would be a great Stoneward. I do think it would be difficult for Kaladin to have another spren, though, just because the bond he has with Syl is so special. Not to mention leaving the winds for the ground...

  3. I think Jasnah was skipped over in the line of succession only because she's already queen of Alethkar, and it would be seen as a conflict of interest for her to be in charge of both Urithiru (which is at least supposed to be independent from other nations) as well as Alethkar, even if Alethkar is still taken over by Odium. Otherwise she would definitely be the most logical choice.

But yeah, I think having something like a council of Radiants from each order would make the most sense, or one of the Bondsmiths leading (when available). From the gemstone archives, it seemed like Melishi (the Sibling bondsmith) might have been a leader in the past, but I'm not sure.

As for the Vatican comment, I could also see it working like that, where the Bondsmith's squires work to choose a new leader from among themselves, who ends up becoming the next Bondsmith and leader of Urithiru. I wonder if we'll see Dalinar or Navani gain any squires in this book that could point to that.

Really I just hope Kaladin doesn't end up having to be king. Frankly I don't think he would know what to do with that particular kind of responsibility. He was already overwhelmed with just trying to manage the Windrunners; he works best in small groups. and I just want him to get a break lol.

  4. I think it would require a lot of mending the broken trust between Adolin and Dalinar for Dalinar to appoint Adolin like that right now. I'm frankly not sure if Adolin would even accept in this case. Not that he would be too petty to fight to save the world, but he may not consider himself a good enough choice.

That said, I really have no idea who else Dalinar could pick. lol

  5. I'm excited to see everyone, but I think I'm especially excited to see Szeth's backstory and development (it's his book and I feel like we've been waiting forever to find out what all his deals are!), as well as Shallan. Seeing her so far in the preview chapters with her powers and plate has been awesome, and I'm REALLY looking forward to her finding out her secrets about her past.

  6. Oh wow sorry it's been so long, I can do Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays; Wednesdays are out until March because I have a term class that goes until 10pm.  I might be able to swing Mondays too but it depends on what happens with FHE.  Anyway glad to see we're thinking about meeting again!

(Sorry for the double post). My mom just told me she's trying to find a way for me to go! So I might see you! (Keep a look out for a young teen with brown hair that goes just past her ears, and is hauling around a bag full of Sanderson books, wearing bootcut jeans, and grey and green tennis shoes).

I should be there too!  I don't know what I'll be wearing but I know Sunbird so I might just find everyone that way C:
