hmm, a lot of my rejection comes from it already being the story and as others have said Kershtian society is typically male dominated and that was a big plot point, its mostly because Ais FEELS right as a guy not necessarily for any story reason. That said I would be fine with more female characters, even sand masters being female. I may have been overdoing it a bit when I said I'd rather Kenton and Khriss being gender-swapped, but personally it feels like Ais fit the most into his role as a guy as anyone. Erik I never felt threatened by because we had the internal conversation and knew he was somewhat mad. As for Brandon Sandersons gender role swapping, I actually usually enjoy it. I like having powerful female characters like Jasnah and Vin because they feel like they work. They feel realistic. Also with the lady judge it feels right. I just feel after reading the prose that it felt so right it shouldn't be changed. Now given that I haven't read the graphic novel beyond what was in Arcanum Unbounded so I may change my mind after reading the book, but as it is now it feels wrong.

hmm you may be right, I just assumed because I remember him doing it mid air, but It definitely didn't feel normal.

Were was it stated that darkeyes weren't allowed in the arena or that they had only recently been allowed to watch?

the beard gems thing happened after the explosion of power.

It was made pretty clear in warbreaker that if vasher didn't have any extra breaths to feed off of nightblood would feed off his divine breath and kill him. I see no reason why this wouldn't be true on roshar.
-
In the prose Ais was filled with hate towards sand masters, but his sense of duty required him to act with honor and keep his charge safe despite his hatred. Both hate and sense of duty are traditionally masculine. While not impossible to have as a female, it fits less to me. Additionally it kind of bothers me that kenton would have a female bodygaurd when the story as it is makes khriss the only main female which foreshadows the romantic entanglement quite well, I am not saying that you can't have a female power, but personally I would have preferred kenton and khriss to have the genderswap then for Ais to have it, but that is impossible due to khriss appearing in canon story.

Well as we know in the cosmere, you can travel betwen planets via shadesmar, spren are from shadesmar, spren see travelers from other planets, which includes Scadrial. pattern might have a memory of hearing about the consumption of metal. But as other people have said pattern was in the middle of trying to understand food so probably wrong.

[OB] Possible solution to how Surgebinding fabrials work
retrorocket1 replied to Ciridae's topic in Stormlight Archive
possibly a reversal mode being the second, not sure what the third would be. Maybe a glue mode that keeps an object from being surgebound to something else? -
I thought Erik was Hoid at first too, having read the prose. So it isn't too hard to see, having read the whole thing though, unless he drastically departs from the prose it is unlikely he is Hoid. Especially considering as people have said he is a main character, which I don't think he will be until the dragonsteel series or whatever it is called.

what email do you send requests for the book to? edit: And I just realized I necroed this thread, whoops XD
-
hmm, maybe this "corrupt spren" is what is responsible for voidbinding. Also, really like the idea of the unmade being spies of odium...great, now I am imagining the unmade as kandra..

hmm, I felt sure kaladin fought two at a time for a short while.

[OB] Possible solution to how Surgebinding fabrials work
retrorocket1 replied to Ciridae's topic in Stormlight Archive
I was thinking it was more the connection to shadesmar through surgebinding, she was becoming less physical and more cognitive as she surgebound. And this happened to the point that she was able to see into the cognitive realm. I don't think it is something any soulcaster would see. edit: I see that I wasn't the only one to come up with this theory @Stark. -
Do the Hearlds bond with spren??
retrorocket1 replied to DustBringer94's topic in Stormlight Archive
This thread made me think of something, Maybe the heralds are bonded to honor himself and that is what the Oathpact is all about. Then when the oathpact was broken, I am guessing when taln returned which may have happened before the end of way of kings, Honordied in the same way that a spren dies. -
I guess that makes sense. We do know however szeth thought he could only pick one, either honorblade or plate, which was probably due to the absorbtion of investiture. But we know knights in the past were able to use both, which implies there is a way to get around this. I suspect it has to do with identity, and the shardplate didn't take the stormlight of the knight whose identity it contained. edit: Of course another explaination is that shardplate like the blade is sentient.
-
I wasn't saying you couldn't get an infinite number of magics but, as has been explained in his other series, there is this thing with identity which prevents you from using other peoples magics. My theory is that the honorblades contain the identity of their herald and shardplate contains the identity of their original radiant. And while someone could use their blade or shardplate, the use of magics of two different identities conflict. This then prevents szeth from using his honorblade and shardplate. In the case of a radiant using a shardblade, there is then three different identities that could potentially conflict.

^plus from me I really like that oath.

From the Coppermind "So Melishi retired to his tent, and resolved to destroy the Voidbringers upon the next day, but that night did present a different stratagem, related to the unique abilities of the Bondsmiths" leads to a possibility of a military based oath. 3rd Ideal of the Bondsmiths:- "I will unite my peoples against my enemies" another possibility related to him finding out about Sadaes - "I will unite even with my enemies"
-
@Radiant_Jaeger Didn't really think about having to bond the blade, that is a good point. Do we have any evidence you can't bond multiple blades though? I kind of assumed that they just didn't do it because it made more sense to have two shard-bearers instead of one dual-wielding. edit: Also does the honor blade reduce efficiency or just provide less efficiency than the nahel bond?
-
So a thought just occurred to me. Could a radiant dual wield honor blades and thus get access to 6 surges? Or do the magics counteract each other kind of like surgebinding and modern shardplates? What do you think?
-
I think I agree with you @Calderis that the cryptic was there to investigate the death rattles not to bond. But being spren you would think the piece they have of honor and cultivation inside of them would already allow them to somewhat predict the future since both honor and cultivation were capable of it. but as we know cryptics are scholars, so could they perhaps be trying to interpret how the unmade cause the death rattles?

Chapter 4 prescript of way of kings
retrorocket1 replied to retrorocket1's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Andy92 yup. I noticed because i had recently listened to feathers stormlight podcast and she mentioned the black sky, which was something i hadn't picked up on about shadesmar. -
pretty sure he meant a similar thing. The eyes are more of binary transition while turning to stone is a gradient shift.
-
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, guessing someone has, but did anyone else notice how much this sounds like shadesmar? What would cause someone to be able to see into shadesmar? The death rattles all seem to be of the future except this one, unless i am missing something. What could be the reason for this?
