  1. Okay, I don't know if anything like this has been mentioned before so, sorry if it has. Anyway, I realized recently that in the cosmere there seem to be a lot of opposites and parallels to everything. When kelsier is first teaching Vin about allomancy he says that every push has a pull (or something like that) meaning that everything has an opposite or a consequence. Every allomantic metal has an opposite to it and when combined they (most of the time) cancel out. We see more opposites on Sel, where the seons seem to be the exact opposites of the skaze. One emits light while the other seems to absorb light. On Roshar we see that honorspren are the opposites of cryptically and tend to dislike them, just how shallan and kaladin hated each other at first. But then we also see that a bunch of the shards seem to have opposites, so what if they all have opposites? It isn't really sixteen different shards but eight pairs of opposites. Ruin vs Preservation. Odium (hatred) vs Devotion (love). Autonomy (self sufficiency) vs Dominion (control). These are the obvious pairings but there are also unobvious ones: Honor (morality) vs Ambition (desire) and Endowment (natural skill) vs Cultivation (improving or refining something) So with this trend of opposite shards, perhaps we can learn more about the six shards whose intent we don't know. Brandon has mentioned that there is a shard who "just wants to survive" but he hasn't specifically named its intent as survival or anything else. With this we can try to speculate what the opposite of a shard who just wants to survive would be. The answer could be A) A shard who just wants to die, B) A shard who wants to kill/destroy or C) Something else entirely Then if we could figure out that pair it would leave us with four more shards of unknown intent which would only be two pairs, so we'd be close to figuring them all out. Let me know if you have any other proof, or prove me wrong. Either way we'll be one step closer to unraveling some of the biggest mysteries in the cosmere.
  2. Granted but the sweatshirt makes you feel colder instead of warmer I wish for the power to bring stories to life
  3. Granted, the people sitting in front of you stop talking, however for the rest of your life you will be haunted by their voices in your head (and they aren't talking about Brandon Sanderson). I wish for the gift of understanding
  4. This could make sense because we learn that shallan was also bonded with pattern for longer than we thought. Even if she didn't fully know it. Also we learn at one point that the reason he was always so good with the spear was because of the stormlight enhancing the skill, and then when sly leaves him we see he isn't quite as good at the spear.
  5. Your ego is so large it would make urithiru look like a speck of dust
  6. Okay so while out of the given theories here I find the 'unspeakable tragedy' most likely, it just feels like it's too easy. After all, our main evidence comes from a conversation between Nazh and Kelsier. What every happened to "there's always another secret"? I find it plausible that something else may have happened, or some other force is behind this. Also I remember a quote from the story that could easily be glanced by. Silence was speaking to one of her daughters and she said "Justice died in the homeland". While I could easily be overthinking this and it could just be nothing, what if she wasn't referring to the judicial concept of justice? What if, instead, she was referring to another shard? The shard of justice. Could it be possible that after Odium's fight with ambition another shard made its way to threnody, perhaps while Odium was distracted? Or maybe, the problem is that Odium wasn't distracted. If Odium noticed perhaps he came and destroyed justice and then that's what caused the "Evil" in the homeland. Finally, Brandon has said that Hoid doesn't appear in this story, however Peter Ahlstrom has suggested that he does appear. Could Hoid be Earnest? After all we know that Hoid generally appears before bad things happen, and Earnest appears at the beginning of the story and then once more at the very end. Anyway let me know your thoughts on my probably half-baked theories. I'm certainly not the most knowledgeable on the cosmere so let me know any holes in my theories so that I could perhaps adjust them or even throw them away altogether. Thanks!
  7. I'm really upset because I just spent the past three and a half hours writing an extremely well-crafted and thought out response that had a lot of different theories and evidence and it took me a lot of research but then when it was loading to upload my response my phone died and now it's all gone. Now I feel like I'm going to cry...
