  1. As to the guy who said Sanderson is one of the few authors with worse UK covers than USA covers, I find the majority of UK covers disgusting. I think it does have something to do with nationality. Most British people I know say they prefer the hardcover Mistborn design, but I actually prefer the mass market paperback.
  2. I was on 17th shard after reading the Way of Kings (which I read first, probably should read again after reading all the rest of the cosmere) and everything said cosmere in it at some point or another, so I read the 101 guide thingymajigger.
  3. Good to see you here! My favorite of Brandon's is actually Warbreaker because it mixed drama with comedy so well. I also got into him because of the Wheel of Time, so you're not alone there, haha.
  4. But it does give us fantasy nerds a chance to pretend the skill of each character matters. ;P
  5. Nobody else is as good as Brandon. That's why. I have no clue why, that's just the way it is.
  6. Moiraine NEEDS to win against Tarzan, so she can stop Tyrion before he goes too far. Seriously. Somebody stop that short fella'. Hoping for an eventual Kelsier/Moiraine matchup here.
  7. It could be Urithiru, actually. Makes sense. In fact, the fact that it was specifically not Isasik Shulin according to Peter makes me think maybe it's the insignia of the cartographers for Urithiru.
  8. Hey guys guess what I was reading WoT one time (surprising, yeah?) and heard that RJ died. Now, if there's one thing I didn't like about RJ, it was the fact that his writing really just wasn't all that good. His storytelling was amazing, though, but it seemed to me that people who knew how to write in order to keep you intrigued in a book never told a satisfying story.. So when I found Sanderson, I was like holy crap how have I not been enlightened by his awesome before. It's amazing goodness was only paralleled by the Door Within trilogy that I had read like six years prior to that. Anyway, I can say I'm thoroughly hooked on Brandonium. Waiting for Elantris (the only Cosmere book I haven't read) to be delivered, since somebody here in Apopka loves B.S. as well since all of his books are checked out just as I'm about to read them. So I had to order it from the Orlando library and it's taking a long time for some reason.
  9. Whoever it is knows of Shadesmar, which is incredibly significant. So we know that whatever the sign is, it can't belong to a completely normal mortal (well, that would be obvious from the silver kingdoms-today time difference)
  10. AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH. Irregardless isn't a word, man! Lol. Jasnah -> Chuck Norris: Jasnah can think of "The Game" and still win. Time waits for nobody. Except Jasnah. andddddddd... People normally say they were scared to death. Death/Ironeyes says he was scared to Jasnah.
  11. To be fair, I highly doubt mistwraiths have the desire to either, with the whole barely sentient thing going on. So, since we're making this comparison, does that mean trolls can be granted the ability to be normal if we stick them with evil spikes of evil? Cause I'd so be up for stabbing some trolls.
  12. This one makes a bit more sense to me than united through force/united through choice.
  13. Maybe he just wants to shut down everything.
  14. Sentience is just the ability to feel, perceive, or to in some way just be conscious of your actions and the actions of others. So the goblet was sentient, and I agree it seems silly that a goblet can be and a planet can't.
  15. I caught Kaladin's Surgebinding and Marsh's contribution to the good guys at the end. I also immediately thought of how Chromium would be useful, though mine was more focused on holding a target in place rather than forcing them forward in time.
  16. The book you're referring to is Liar of Partinel, I believe, and is not canon, as it has not yet been published. However, Word of Brandon states that Hoid was there at the shattering. Canonically, we actually can't be certain he wasn't born the moment of shattering, but it's highly likely he was there before.
  17. It seems to me that Odium is the only "evil" shard, everything else can be evil. None of the shards come across as completely good, though. Endowment is closest, but even that doesn't seem to fit the bill. So whatever Odium's opposite is (I don't think it's Honor), that's probably the pure good one.
  18. Maybe Peacegiver's mysterious method for staying alive is he has somehow figured out how to always act in accordance with Endowment so his own energy doesn't dissipate. That doesn't quite explain how he can go without a divine breath, but I figured I'd throw that out there to see if it stirs up anyone else's mind.
  19. Hello. This is a tad bit late, but hey! Who cares. I'm a Floridian, so you can expect the occasional bout of weirdness from me. I'm a bit of a slavophile even though I'm mostly Anglo-Saxon by heritage. I love RPing, less for becoming someone else and more for the collaborative storytelling aspect. As for how I got into Sanderson, well, that's a bit of a tale. You see, one day in like 2008 I was just walking along the sf/f section in my local Borders (RIP) for something I could read for a long time and would be worth some AR points for school. So I looked around and saw the Fires of Heaven just kind of chilling there, and went on a mad search for book 1. I eventually found EotW after like five minutes, and looked around for a description of it somewhere. Checked on the inside, on the back, just about everywhere. I still think it's incredibly annoying how WoT has no synopses. Alas, I bought it and spent the next two months reading it. Fast forward a long, long time, and I'm on The Path of Daggers. I've known ever since just a little after I started that RJ died and BS was the new author. I had actually almost gone to get The Way of Kings signed a year prior when he came to Orlando, but a prior commitment got in the way. So I was at the library one day, wanting to take a break from WoT as I generally do every two books or so, and I decided I'd just go grab a BS book. So I got Way of Kings. Finished it in a week, which was completely shocking to me. I'd never finished such a long book in such a short time before. So then I went through the entire Mistborn trilogy and Warbreaker over the course of the next two weeks. Now here I am, having just finished Alloy of Law (which, despite being awesome, was a lot shorter than I expected and probably not worth the 22 dollars I paid for it to order online). The only thing I have left to read is Elantris, which, conveniently for me, is also where apparently like half the Cosmere stuff is so I'm stuck until I can find a copy of it, haha. I rambled a bit too much there, sorry. Regardless, hi!
  20. I'm an anti-conformist, so red all the way! Just kidding. I'd go with grey. I like politics and negotiation. And, odd coincidence, I also suck at them! I'm a perfect grey, whattya know.
  21. You can skip or skim some parts of the series, though. For example, reading summaries of almost everything in book 10 will be enough, as opposed to actually reading it. And feel free to skim the beginnings of all the books ('cept TGH and TSR), for maybe the first three chapters, if you don't mind getting an incomplete feeling. And 1.5 months for 1-10? It took me that long just to read EotW!
  22. To be completely honest, I think tWoK WAS a better book. It was amazing, while Mistborn was just really really good. That said, I obviously don't agree with him. Except for the fact that tWoK was the best fantasy book I've read in years.
  23. Hah! That was actually pretty funny.
  24. If Taravangian gets himself a book, I will be happy.
  25. Imagine if they could convert it into pure energy. Person of Mass Destruction, much?
