  1. This is exactly what it sounds like.

We all have those ideas in our heads - it would be cool if I could __________, what if he could ___________ - you know? So what if anybody could submit his idea to a central thread, and after a week or something, we can bundle all these cool ideas together into a magic system to end all magic systems? And then we put this magic system up on the therad, or we make a world to go with it, or leave it for anyone to use and edit it?

This is the thread. Submit your magic system ideas , and comment on other's. Please (for ease of use) start a magic system suggestion with "It would be cool/nice/awesome if..."

    Let us weave some magic!

I think I like the idea that a Dust bond is (or can be) permanent better.  Like, with your strength of will, you bond a specific quantity of Dust and that's what you have to work with.  If it's scattered Dust, you can sense it, call it if it's in range of you, and it will slowly make its way back, but while it's missing your power is lessened.

    I can get behind this...good idea  (http://i.imgur.com/3YfOz4J.gif)

With Dust, you can make constructs that scale in power based on the mass of Dust that you can will into shape.  If you're not particularly good, you can only make something insubstantial; it takes focus and understanding to create something that's actually solid.  You need to pass a specific threshold of density to instill a construct with sight, hearing, motion.  A higher threshold grants it purpose, and still higher grants it greater intelligence, agility and durability.  The highest tier allows the mage to send his or her own consciousness into the construct, effectively piloting it.  If the construct is destroyed, the only thing lost is the dust that is presumably now held by the mage's enemies.

This is also pretty cool, but it kinda starts entering the whole golem thingy, which I like, but I think may be hard to pull off without sounding cliche. Even so, this may form only one "Branch" of the power. Any more bright ideas?

  3. So, there's been this concept floating around in the dark corridors of my mind, and it goes like this...

The magic is powered by the powdered dust of a certain rock. This dust - Lifedust - is used by mages in different ways. The esscence of it is that they create a temporary bond between them and the Dust, allowing them to influence it in certain ways. This connection is temporary, and depends on the strength of the Dustmage, the fineness of the powder and the distance between them (the closer the better). The problem I'm having trouble with is figuring out the power profiles: what can the Dustmages do with the Dust? Are they divided into orders? Do the powers calssify into certain groups?

This is why I've decided to take ideas from the Forumgoers - you - about these powers. I'll consider anything and everything, so please help me out :D:D:D

  4. Holy sonuvab#&@h, this thread just blew! My god!

So if ya'll wondering where I've been exactly (although I don't think you have - you all lack the equipment) it's because my internet connection has been blocking off the forum for ages now.

But I'm back, and ready. With an IQ surpass you all...

Although that's not too much. My left pinkie has more intelligence and sense in it than the lot of you combined - and that's why it knows not to challenge me

  5. Hello fellow Sharders,

I was browsing online and learnt about this new poison, so I thought I’d raise awareness for it here. It is known as DHMO. DHMO:

    ·         is also known as hydroxyl acid, and is the major component of acid rain.

    ·         contributes to the "greenhouse effect".

    ·         may cause severe burns.

    ·         contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.

    ·         accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.

    ·         may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.

    ·         has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

    ·         as an industrial solvent and coolant.

    ·         in nuclear power plants.

    ·         in the production of styrofoam.

    ·         as a fire retardant.

    ·         in many forms of cruel animal research.

    ·         in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.

    ·         as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

dhmo = dihydrogen monoxide = water

  6. I think that in my head mistborn and stormlight has always been an anime, because of the art style and the characters. Plus, the events wouldn't be full if they wreer made into a movie. Nothing against movies or anything, but...

we can all agree that SA is more complex (or will be) than GoT right?

Now imagine Game of Thrones as a movie, or two, or three... doesn't fit, does it? The only way for GoT to screen AND keep its complexity was a HBO series (Boss company BTW). So the best we can hope for is for Stormlight, which is even more complicated than GoT, to be made into a very long and expensive HBO series, or a long and much cheaper anime, with no limits in violence, gore or complexity.

Now that I think about it, mistborn the original trilogy would be awesome as a HBO series. Imagine kit streaming on Netflix...*makes excited giggling*

  7. I have had this theory for sometime, and now that I have finished all the Cosmere books I can now post this theory, as, in my eyes, it has not been yet disproven.

The events on a planet are influenced by the Invested Shard

    Think about it:

In Elantris (On Sel), the story is mainly about Shu-Dereth as it attempts to convert the citizens of Arelon and Teod, and bring them under Wyrn's control. The part about religion ties into Devotion and its nature, while the part about control is connected to Dominion.

In Mistborn Era 1 (Scadrial) the story was, simplified greatly, about different factions warring. People like Elend were attempting to preserve humanity while people like the Lord Ruler wre attempting to destroy it. IN Era 2, it's all about how Ruin and Preservation work against each other in one body (the theory doesn't fit very well in Era 2, but I pit that down to the fact that Sazed holds both).

In Warbreaker (Nalthis) the story was all about giving (Endowment), and this is something I noticed at the end. Everyone was handing out Breath, and giving it away.

In Stormlight Archive (Roshar) it was all about cultivating the human race in a harmful environment, and the political system greatly showcases the honor of every one of the highprinces, and how Dalinar attempts to overcome their pride and honor.

It took you 2 whole days to reply. Were you filling a Zinc metalmind or is that your normal mental speed?

Okay, I took time because I wanted to put myself in your shoes, to see how it feels. That and internet shutdown.

@NamelessThirteenth had to create this thread and become the person at the top part of the thread because that's the only way he can get people to look up to him.:P

Oh and Zennix, you've gained my respect, no matter how little it's worth. You are the ONLY person here that seems to actually have their wits about them (and me of course, but that goes unsaid).

BTW, remember how I said I was gonna put points? I decided thats a complete waste of my time. None of you deserve any anyway

    :P:P

  9. I was reading a thread on how all the shards find it natural to manifest themeselves as metal, and then I read Shadows for Silence. It hit me that maybe silver is of Ambition (because he stayed there for a time) or another shard, while the Shades are of Odium, or another shard.

    Any speculation?

  10. So I think the best way to go about drafting theories for the Cosmere is to look at what Sanderson has been RAFOing. I think that if we all worked together, we could notice trends in what he keeps secret from us, and make theories from there.

Problem: I haven't been to any convention or release of any sort because I live in Australia and he hasn't done anything there  (yet). So everyone that has been RAFOed and remembers it please post it HERE. That way we can all crack the Cosmere together.

Why do you call yourself NamelessThirteen? Is it because 17th Sharders find it so difficult to remember your name that you might as well be anonymous?

I call myself NamelessThirteenth because my name carries so much awesome reputation it would blow your mind to know them all.

Your name, on the other hand, is so lowly anyone who knew it would immediately be the scum of the earth. And THAT'S why nobody talks to your mum anymore (I thought you might be wondering).

Oh, and for the record, I really like how you don't have to put your real face as the profile picture. If you did, I'm certain the Sharders would have left a long time ago (and those are the survivors, I excluded those who died from disgust, those who are in Intensive care, and those who are traumatised).

  12. Dust streamed off his skin into the mists around him, making strange swirly shapes in the night.

He had shed his cloak, his scarf and his mask, and wore nothing but a pair of thick pants and the metal bands around his joints. It really irritated him to hide his nature, when he had been a prideful, even condescending creature before his curse. The bands around his elbows and knees served to keep the flesh from deteriorating there, giving him precious weeks of precious mobility. The winds blew at his naked torso in ferocity to rival the Highstorms of Roshar, but he did not feel them. Highstorms had not provided him with any sort of challenge, and this won't either; the nerves in his skin had been turned to dust and scattered by the wind onto his path. He did not know which planet he would find them on, if they could be found at all, nor did he even keep count of the stops he made on his quest across the Cosmere. He only kept within his mind Yolen, the planet on which he had lost all, and Adonalsium, the one who had cursed him.

The world had long since moved on. The Shattering had occurred – he was there to see it, it was a pleasing scene – and the Shards had spread about the Cosmere, Investing in all sorts of planets and people. Planets had fallen and risen, Shards had shattered and conquered, Slivers had been formed and champions had been defeated. Nothing had affected his quest.

It did not matter if Adonalsium had Shattered. The Shards were, in essence, Adonalsium Himself. They were all targets.

They will all die by his hand.

His name had long since been lost to the endless cycle of eons, and he had carved his mark upon the face of many planets in the Cosmere. When he had been hunting Surgebinders – heathen, holders of a dark, corrupted sliver of power – they knew him as the Herald Nale. When he had been busy waging wars against Edgli, tearing Nalthis apart, they knew him as Kalad. When he had volunteered himself as Ruin’s champion, they named his Marsh. When he made his presence known in Vax, they dubbed him the Shardslayer. It was a name that will stay with him until he completed his mission.

  13. Okay, so we do this thing at school called an insult battle, where we sit and insult each other for a length of time. It is a very fun way to pass the time, and when I read SA and met the King's Wit, I remembered all the fun I have insulting my friends. So I decided to do it on the forums. Then, I thought it would be cool if I kept score or something, so I will try to log in everyday and post scores.

Insult anybody, everybody or nobody. The insults don't need to have any specific themes, but if they are Stormlight related you get points for cleverness. Don't fear insulting me (although I think no one can anyway, but we'll see), and try not to be inappropriate (no cussing). The emphasis here is on how clever you are, not on how many bad words you can spout out in one post. Don't take offence at anything we say here. Its not personal and is only fun.

Stoke your egos, hone your wits, prepare your words.

May the Battle of Wits commence!

Or wait, don't say anything. It's better to let someone think you are idiots than to open your mouths and prove it.
