To my knowledge it was created in relation to the short story The Hope of Elantris, so that an Aon could be included in the name of Matisse. Hence it wouldn't be included in the original publication but would be in the revised 10th Anniversary edition.

I have a strong, strong feeling that the magic being REDACTED here is actually Microkinesis! It's a term I've heard mentioned a few times in the past in relation to Dragonsteel and Yolen, a magic that allows the user to see microscopic things and interact with atoms/molecules at will. In the fifth chapter, Jerick looks at small crawling REDACTEDs on a corpse, and recognises them from a man dying of a disease. I thought these were deathspren or rotspren at first, but then I realised they could be microbes. Later on, he uses something vision-related to determine that a Sho Del's armour is steel as opposed to Dragonsteel, which I think he's doing by actually looking at the molecules in the armour. If I'm right, it seems likely that the initial flurry of REDACTED when Jerick does something to an arrow is him transmuting the arrow into another substance, which i'd expect Microkinesis to be capable of. Probably it's mechanically similar to Soulcasting and slatrification. Considering chapter 6, it could also be something nuclear in nature, which I believe WoB has said is possible with Microkinesis. Any thoughts? I could be way off the mark here, but I feel it's likely.

I think he's said it's slatrification, which he feels doesn't fit very well with the mechanics of the Cosmere as they are.

We have a WoB saying there were three sapient species on Yolen: humans, dragons, and Shodel. It's anyone's guess what that last one might be, since we have zero information and we probably won't have much until Dragonsteel, but they could conceivably be related to Aimians. The best source I can find on the name "Shodel" is this reddit comment, where someone asks for details about the Shodel but is of course RAFO'd.

I can see it just fine now, and I think it looks great! Good choice of material.

Long time reader here, and after two years of dragging my real-life friends into this fandom and bothering them with theories, I decided it was time to finally make an account here. I've read everything Cosmere-related I can lay my hands on (books, short stories, unpublished books, WoB by the dozen), and I can't wait to make theories about what's coming next.
