    I made this recap for a few friends over the summer. With only a month until release -- barely enough time to reread the first four books -- and from the advice several friends gave me, I thought I would share it with everyone, just in case it can help someone else. Please feel free to propose art for the slides missing it -- the only reason I'm sharing slides and not a PDF is so people can suggest them and I can update it.

     

    I tried to structure it so that you can read up to a specific part in a specific book and not get any serious spoilers, but that's less certain the earlier you get in the books. Also, please tell me if this belongs in a different part of the forum -- I haven't posted on here in years.

    Hello everyone, I havenn't checked this thread in FOREVER, so hoping this isn't considered a necro by the rules, I'm gonna answer some things.

    @Slimy_Slider I got most of the words on my own. Some are canon or inspired off of the English words for said thing (I'm referring to words like crem and spren, which have very english phonotactics)

    @Secrets Nope! I'll leave the glyphs to people with drawing skills. I'm just gonna make words and grammar

    @Pagerunner I'm just gonna keep guessing the words, making allowances for new vocabulary in new books. I am a bit scared, especially with regards to some of the darkeyed names, that really don't fit in with the phonotactics of the language

A lot of the most interesting angles were unexplored, e.g. Kaladin admires Shallan's ability to repress her trauma, but that isn't actually psychologically healthy, but also that's what keeps her from thinking about how he killed her brother. That's interesting! And it's barely touched on! The two of them go flying off on a mission *alone* and we don't even get to see any scenes from it! And they don't talk at the end! Even if it was only Veil who "really" liked him they should still probably talk about it! Brandon's never been a *great* romance writer, frankly.

    See, as much as I like love subplots, especially happy love subplots, I dislike love triangles, so I was actually really happy about that. Also, as long as Shallan still hasn't fully learned to be herself, it'll pop up again -- it'll make it extra interesting with the wedding. Maybe Brandon's going for a bit of Camelot stuff?

    Im glad Kaladin failed to find his fourth oath. Would have felt repetitive. I would like to see some more growth there.

    Also, Adolins sword? If he's not going to heal it then I don't know what will. He's awesome with that sword. 

    This book was amazing. I need to reread that letter.

    im almost underwhelmed by the secret of the Recreance. But at the same time...

    also, Taran is going full evil. Fantastic. 

    Siblings of the Stormfather? Flying ships? I AM SO EXCITEEEEEEEE I WANT FLYING SHIPS TO BOMBARD ODIUM. 

    So many awesome things in this book.

    Can I even describe the experience of reading this book? It was so DAMNATION good.

    I always imagine that as Nightblood's voice but suddenly not cheerful and so distorted

    Also to everyone's speaking about Shallan:
    1. When Shallan lost herself, I originally thought it would be a repeat of Kaladin in WoR and I'm happy it wasn't

    2. In my opinion, what she experienced wasn't MPD but a separate thing, a product of her self delusion mixed with her powers.

    3. I think her attraction to Kaladin wasn't so much intended to be a genuine option for her. To me it seemed obvious that it would eventually turn to Adolin. I think it was more intended to intensify her conflict with Veil and Radiant -- Adolin being Shallan's own choice. Finally, I though it was to get Kaladin's romantic plot started. I think it's now set up to actually happen in other books.

    Things that made me smile:

    - Drehy's homosexuality coming to the front and the shattering of the gender roles with woman fighters being accepted and Dalinar learning to write

     

    Finally:

    YOU. CANNOT. HAVE. MY. PAIN.

    Chills. And also the character change is shown so much in that one moment.

    He had the scars on his arms, so if he used TLR's body, those ended up transferring.  Of course, the same issue exists with any body, but I'm kinda guessing it wasn't actually Hemalurgy that brought him back, unless we've had confirmation otherwise. I think it's a new body, and he wanted those scars there as evidence it was him (and because they are part of his identity now, not just to himself but to everyone who's heard about the Survivor).

    Kelsier come back did he regain his own bones? Did he come back with the aid of Hemalurgy in any way? Were any Kandra harmed in the making of this new Kelsier?

    Just soulcast its suroundings into antimatter, you will probably take out a good part of the planet but who cares B). Also, wouldn't all the different types of investure interfere with each other and make it blow up in the creator's face?

    Actually, I forgot about soulcasting... Alright. Lure the creature onto a basin filled with concrete, then soulcast that into acid, thus destroying any metal, including all the hemalurgy. For this, I would need: 1 soulcaster, a lot of stormlight, and 2 generic gold compounders (who can survive the acid bath.)

     

    EDIT: Also, Soulcasting surroundings into antimatter: Is that even possible?

    I have a few questions. Askers should probably ask in sequence, and get ready for a RAFO at some point

    Does Yolen still exist?

    Is it a shardworld?

    Have we seen that shardworld?

    Is it Sel?

     

    Alternatively, if someone could find the WOB that Hoid wanted to get taken by the Shaod (I couldn't), that would be great.

     

    This is related to a theory I am thinking of about Yolen and Sel being one (as you can see by the blunt bluntness of the questions above.)
