I suppose it could happen if it turns out there is a way to release a shard once having taken it up, as it seems implicit that Bavadin is still kicking at the time of the Letter (though not guaranteed). I think the bigger challenge would be picking up a shard if you have been holding another for a long period of time. It would seem to me that shardic intent/influence would make it hard to willingly pick up an opposing force. Sazed pulls it off because he picks up both at once, basically.
-
Been beating this drum since I found out about shards and shardic intent. Dominion just means sovereignty or control. There isn't anything inherently nefarious about the term. I can definitely see this: argument holding weight, if we look at autonomy as independence of agency.
-
Put simply: we don't. Given that Mraize seems to be headlining this particular shindig in the scenes of the book, I refer to it as Mraize's collection, but it certainly could just as easily be a Ghostblood-wide collection, or Iyatil's mementos from past lovers for that matter.

That's always been my issue with Autonomy as Sand Lord. I may just have the concept of Autonomy wrong, but the religion just seems contrary to everything that comes to mind re:Autonomy. IMHO, Autonomy does little to influence others other than perhaps rewarding/empowering those who jive with his essence. But yes... I want more info. Must buy all the graphic novels and make sure we get the rest of the intended series.
-
To wax philosophical: Autonomy is the essence of self-government. The ability to decide for oneself. Absolute autonomy could bring with it the acceptance of oneself in all its gory details. If "Good" and "Bad" are viewed as external influences, Autonomy might rebel against such labels and influences. Autonomy might also rebel against nigh omnipotent shards mandating/directing/influencing lives. Given the WoB about Autonomy having some cause in common with Odium, might this not e where this common ground is found? In breaking the shackles of the shards?

Theory is for the birds. We're talking supposition, philosophy, pedantry, and maybe calumny if I am feeling bored. The questions are good ones, let us break this down: Highstorms on Roshar: Given what happens during Highstorms, I can't imagine there NOT being something crazy going on in the CR as well. We just haven't seen it. Highstorms vs Mist: I think the mist being present in Scadrial is a manifestation of something inherent to Scadrial. The mist being a specific focus of some sort for Scadrial, just as gemstones/gemhearts are for Roshar. Nalthis: Flowers, colors, and breaths are all significant. Sounds like a fun place to be.

Restaurant at the End of the Cosmere

With that Mic drop, can we move on to the fact that the Restaurant Shard's Shard-number-thingy really needs to be 42? -

Certainly an acceptable opposing argument. I would counter that no economy is an island. If Scadrial's economy gets got, then whoever they're trading with is being affected as well... but this is what being in Grad School for Business will do to a person. -
Given that Baon is one of those three, it suggests an interesting splitting of loyalties.

I acknowledge that there are other ways to worldhop without a perpendicularity, but it seems to be the easiest way to travel. The whole worldhopper economy is acknowledged to have taken a hit with the disappearance of one in Secret History. If the economy is built around perpendicularities, then the Restaurant likely has one as well. -
I wonder if this is a trophy room, as has been suggested enough, or if there is something more substantial present. Holding onto investiture is significant... but I don't remember the silver itself in Threnody being significant. The tears of Egli, the Royal Locks, and so forth, yes... Hmm.
-
So there is that pale sand in Mraize's collection in WoR. Assuming it is from Taldain, the sand still being pale suggests that it is still invested, yes?
-
I missed Bavadin being angry at them. What leads to this conclusion?
-
And the fact that the sand is still pale on another planet is interesting, suggesting that it still has its investiture. Won't divert this topic though. Will post a new thread for discussion on this.
-
In Mraize's collection of potentially cosmere-significant items, besides finding a silver knife and such, there is mention of pale sand. Always took it to be from Taldain.
-
It would be really fun to have a Sand Master pop in and make use of that easter egg sand mentioned in WoR.

1. Hadn't thought of it, but there would almost have to be a shard there, given that worldhopping generally requires a destination perpendicularity which generally comes from a shard. 2. The perpendicularity, I seem to remember, occurs when a shard invests in a place... but if it is a small or lifeless place, maybe less power ends up leaving the shard, which means that... 3. This shard would be more powerful having invested less power elsewhere. -
Please yes. This makes so much sense.
-
Secret History is the answer to lots of questions. And asks a whole lot more. Cursed book.
-
Agreed. Next Worldhopper will be named "This" or "Of". The fiend.

See, I thought that was a photo of Adonalsium initially. It makes complete sense.
-
Anyone else wonder if the choice of "Felt" as the name for a Worldhopper was intentionally a jab at us? A name that is next-to-impossible to search for meaningfully given its usage in common parlance?

But broken people are those whose spirit webs are open to shardic influence. He seems a prime candidate for something hinky. Good or bad. And the shard is Autonomy, Eric is trying to be his own man... there could be story mined there.
-
I definitely felt like there was something supernatural involved upon first reading.

Can we just acknowledge Blightsong as the WoB whisperer?
