  4. The air around Kaladin also begins to freeze if he uses Stormlight too quickly. Not sure if it's related, but the mention of frost reminded me. I also don't think it fits either of your theories.

  6. When you reAlize that naming hurricanes is creating a Stormfather for each one by altering the cognitive view of the storm. When you want a hurricane Tanavast.

  9. Some thoughts I had reading this thread. 1. Windspren are very common and the Windspren was one of the largest orders. Creationspren are less common, but are still around enough to be easily recognized. Could there be a relationship between the size of the order and how common the cousin spren are? That would mean Bondsmith minor spren would be extremely rare. 2. Spren lean towards Cultivation or Honor, with natural phenomena being Cultivation and emotions being Honor. Honorspren - Honor Windspren - Cultivation Cryptics - Cultivation, but has more mixed Creationspren - This is harder to place. Creation seems like it would be of Cultivation. But what Creationspren are attracted to seems to be creativity, which is an emotion and of Honor. Is it possible there is some balance of Honor/Cultivation in the major-minor spren relationships? The problem with this theory is that both Edgedancerspren and lifespren are closely aligned with Cultivation.
  10. At the start of WoR, Pattern talks about his earliest memory is being with Shallan. Then Shallan starts to remember being in a garden before quickly shutting down the memory. So far, that's the only clue we have about the start of her bond.
  11. I believe that right now, Elhokar is basically a child. He is selfish, but he ultimately wants to do the right thing. He simply doesn't know how. He isn't a bad king, but any decision he makes is criticized by one of a dozen different factions. He thinks that if he was somehow better, more like Gavilar, he could please everyone, and so he blames himself. Dalinar tries to help him, but I think Dalinar only makes it worse. He spoils Elhokar, giving him whatever he wants, without ever giving him any real responsibility. Because people treat him like a child, he acts like one. I think this quote sums up his problems. (Emphasis added. ) No one has ever let Elhokar have any of the mistakes or experiences that would let him move past his childlike mindset. It might be good for the kingdom, but it isn't good for Elhokar. These are rings he should have gotten as a prince, with his father observing him and slowly giving him more responsibilities as he proved himself, like what Dalinar did with Adolin. When Gavilar died, Dalinar should have done the same thing. But he didn't. Elhokar should have learned how to be a leader and king as part of his training. But he didn't, which is how he ended up in Kaladin's room asking to learn how to be a hero, his idea of what a leader is. I think Elhokar will grow in book 3 out of his current childlike mindset. As for becoming a Radiant, I could see it going either way.
  12. When you dream about Hoid becoming a Dustbringer. And then on waking you immediately start thinking about all the possible implications that would have on the cosmere.
  13. I've recently started Mercedes Lackey's Tales of the Five Hudred Kingdoms. They're fairy tale retellings and romances, so if you don't like the genre much be warned. If you do, then I suggest reading them.
  14. If you look closely at the woman's safehand, it's rotated. Here's a closer image of the place where they would fold over. Spoiler for size.
  15. @hwiles, Roshar also has Parahmen. They serve some of the functions of human slaves, but are better. I'd guess that on Roshar the demand for slaves is lower than in an Earth pre-industrial economy. Do we ever find out how much a Parshmen costs?

  18. No problem It's easier to eliminate the orders we know weren't the faithful order and use process of elimination. Windrunners, Lightweavers, Edgedancers, Elsecallers, and Stonewards all almost certainly broke their oaths, based on the vision and comments by the spren. That leaves half the orders. Of the ones left, the Truthwatchers had a reputation for being secretive, so they always seemed the most likely to me. I also remember someone mentioning the connection between the punishment of being Truthless and the name Truthwatchers.
  19. It actually says in the chapter. WoK ch52
  20. In Dalinar's vision of the Recreance, he witnesses some Stonewards breaking their oaths. So they can't be the faithful order. I agree that the symmetry is suspicious, though.
