  1. I don't think it'll be a problem! We're all going at roughly our own pace anyway. I'm going to be late with this week's chapters because I haven't had a lot of time, but I'll make up for it next week. I can't see any reason why it'd be a problem as long as you're good with it, dude!
  2. Oh! Yeah, I was pretty sure it was a matter of "potato/potato", but I just didn't know the actual pronunciation that's normally used. Thank you for that! So kinda a blend from what I was saying before, I guess. lol. Don't relearn. In the end, all that matters is that you like that pronunciation! Trust me, as someone who's tried. You just end up frustrating yourself by tripping over the name a million times a day. I think your way of pronouncing is super lovely anyway! Oooh wow! That sounds like a feat. If you have a lot of extra time, I'd say go for it! If not, don't. You'll burn yourself out dude. Might loose you to the Shattered Plains!
  3. Yayy!! Welcome! We're currently on Week 3, but we'll be onto WoR soon. Feel free to chip into discussion. Honestly? I'm the same, I skipped Szeth the first time around, and although I'm enjoying his interludes *now*, that's because I know all the goodie good stuff that happens later! I think the correct pronunciation is "Ad-a-lin". I've always said "A-dole-lin". Either one may be correct, I've heard both. What do you say? I'm a HUGE fan of this twist too, actually! There are books where it's a scandal for women to read, but never men. At least, none that I've come across (if you know of one, GIMMIE). Trope breakers are life! Lol. Yeah, that poor prince is addicted to the chance. Not in love with the realities of relationships. Yep. We're gonna have a lot of Moash hate going on in these discussions. I already predict it!
  4. Week 2: Complete! Here are my rambles: --This is a LOT of reading for me. I didn’t realize how little I was reading before now…I’m feeling so refreshed! My vocabulary has replenished! My imagination given fuel! In other words, this is great. --Adolin and his women…I forgot how much of a womanizer he was. I would hate that about a character normally, but he does it in such a way that…I don’t hate him? Probably the emotionally clutzy nature he seems to have. --Wit making fun of everyone at the feast, but Dalinar has me cackling. I wonder why he didn’t go for Dalinar though. Respect? That doesn’t seem right. --Navani!! I gotta say, I kind of forgot about her till she showed up. She’s actually one of my favorite characters of all time, I think. Strong, inventive, and absolutely fearless! I also think that the thing between her and Dalinar is adorable. It’s quite unique to have a “ship” that involves two older people. I appreciate the difference in their flirting/courtship than say, someone like Shallan/Adolin. --Dalinar’s visions begin! Am I the only one who kinda cringes when he has one? I always think “Wow, that’s kinda embarrassing to have this amazing thing happening inside your head but makes you sound like an utter lunatic when you try to justify rolling around on the barracks floor. I can’t imagine I’d have the same dignity in Dalinar’s situation. --That fight between Adolin and Dalinar though....yikes. Going back to negatives of having super-awesome-dream-visions. --Kaladin’s getting the gang togettheerrr. I love seeing the construction of the Bridgemen we all love so dearly! I can't wait to hear y'all's thoughts!
  5. Sorry if this sounds ignorant, but what is that?
  6. Welcome!! We're happy to have you! We've only done one week and are currently on Week 2 (chapters 16 through 31 this week, I believe). Whenever you're finished with the current week, you can put your thoughts! Week 3 starts on Monday etc (you can find our schedule on the 1st page of this discussion). If you're a bit slow to catch up, read at your own pace! Same goes if you want to read ahead. There's no pressure here.
  7. Oooooooohhhh.....yeah I remember physically groaning during my first reading of that scene. So much secondhand embarrassment. Yikes. I almost forgot! There's a WoK soundtrack! I do believe you can find it on Youtube, if any of you are interested. Old news, I know, but I just thought I'd put it out there in case anyone forgot about it.
  8. Out of curiosity....which scene?
  9. I agree in part with both of you. I really struggled with Kaladin and Shallan first time around. I only stuck around for Dalinar/Adolin/royal intrigue stuff! I became fascinated with Kaladin soon enough, but only when he started coming out of his slump and interacting with the bridgemen. Just in these two weeks, I feel like I've cleaned my foggy glasses and am seeing the novel through new lenses. Although, yeah, I'm super pumped for WoR. My favorite!
  10. Crash away! Yeah, Kaladin's storyline is so....human. How he's literally given the worst hand life can give him. He's not a superhuman by any means. Talk about an underdog story on steroids. It's one of the reasons I love his chapters so much!
  11. I loved this quote too! It's just one of those times where you read a line and go "yes, I know exactly what you're talking about". No explanation needed. Lol! Wit is a breath of fresh air! I dearly adore the man.
  12. Demoux??? I think I remember something about that! Oh wow, I'm gonna have to read that again. I've only read a bit of White Sand, so I'm not quite familiar with Baon....guess I just have to add it to my never-ending reading list! Thanks for the quick info guys! Now I don't have to go to bed wondering.
  13. I finished this week's reading!! Here are my thoughts. Feel free to put yours as well! --First off, let me say that this WoK starts out slow, but it was SO much more enjoyable this time round. I’ve never taken the time to really visualize a lot of stuff about the world of Stormlight Archive. It’s so much more colorful than I was imagining it before (if that makes any sense)! Also, knowing what’s actually happening is nice too. I don’t have to strain to imagine scenes. --Confession, I’ve never read Szeth’s viewpoint in WoK. DON’T KILL ME PLEASE. I had a bad habit of skipping around in books awhile ago, but no more! I’m looking forward to reading more from him. --Kaladin is best boi, as always (WARNING: stop here if you don’t want to read Kaladin gush). He is everything. His character type is just so attractive on so many levels. The brooding, the complexness, the honor, his want to help others and to take others under his wing! He’s basically a gentle soul that’s been beaten to a pulp one to many times. I love that he opens the series, as I’m hypothesizing he’s the main character (or the one the plot is going to end up centering around) in the entire series. Potentially a dumb take, but maybe I’m not expressing what I mean correctly…hmm. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Shallan, Dalinar, and the gang, but Kaladin get’s my squeals and cheers like no other! --I'm remembering Dalinar as he is in Oathbringer as I read WoK and it's weeiiirrdd. He grows so much! --In one of the interludes, there are three world hoppers. I know one is Galladon from Etlantris, do you know who the other two are? Are they unknowns? Anyway, that's my lil ramble. We're just getting started, but I'm already enjoying the re-read a lot!
  14. Yep yep yep. I love books that aren't centered around romance. I don't really care if there is or isn't particularly, I just care about *relationships* in general. There's a special feeling when one character you love meets another that you adore, there's a giddiness to reading banter between friends, there's especially joy in a true mentor/apprentice relationship. We read to feel something we haven't felt before, to hear thoughts we haven't been exposed to before, and to imagine things we'll never see. Romance is a part of that fun bit of reading. Especially if you don't have a partner yourself, it's nice to imagine that others are happy. It can give ya hope, I think. But depending on how you view romance in life (like, if you're uncomfortable with it/just don't enjoy it) then I can understand why there might not be that draw. I do agree that shipping can get unhealthy when that's all you consume media for. The internet just makes it easier to be toxic. So yeah, I think shipping has actually been around forever, probably since books have been around. I mean, aren't stories centered around you wanting this or that really really badly and that's why we all stick around? Wishing for shipping to disappear is silly, because it won't.
  15. I had a friend that was VERY into Voltron. My advise....don't ask. lol. EDIT: Oh never mind! I see it was already answered!
  16. Oooowww. Dude, that sucks. Fantastic reading time, I'm sure. But that stinks!
  17. Yayy!! I'm gonna be a nerd and compile a bunch of notes on my thoughts during the reading that I'll post at the end of the week. Y'all can join me, or just breeze over my gushing and rambling. I actually cheated and started yesterday at work.
  18. I actually have an actual callsign already (my gamer buddies gave me one a looonngg time ago). So, Callsign "Fire" reporting for duty!
  19. Yep! Those are the main kids you need to memorize and pay attention to. There are a couple side characters that'll be of importance (Elaine, Gawain, etc), but that's the main group!
  20. Are you looking for basic plot points in the beginning of the book or just where you should start in the series? I LOVE the Wheel of Time, but it's a LOT at first. Start at the first book (if that's indeed what you're asking), don't read New Spring first, it's just a really long prologue (although interesting once you get into the series). I'd suggest you go back and read everything again. I could give you a short catch-up, but due to not knowing where you've read to and that the world is pretty difficult to describe, it wouldn't be the easiest thing to do. But the series is worth getting into, you just have to wait until about halfway through the book before stuff gets complex. Even then, each book in the series gets better and better in my opinion (except for book 7 and 8, but ugh that's a whole different thread).
  21. Wow @Use the Falchion....I have seriously never thought of any of that. That's extremely interesting!
  22. I just ordered WoK from my local bookstore! We doing this!
  23. I was actually just babbling about this to my mom earlier today. She doesn't read any of the books though so this was very much the scenario: But yeah, I have varying feelings on Kaladin/Shallan/Adolin. I love them all, but while I preferred Shaladin for a LONG time, I'm still happy with where Mr. Sanderson took it. I think what happened was realistic in a sense. I know I would've picked Adolin irl. I need someone to bring me up, not a guy who's just as unstable as I am. YET, it is fiction and I adore an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope with a fiery passion, so I wouldn't be opposed to them growing a bit and coming back to it. But with Shallan married....I really doubt it guys. Anyhow! My favorite couple in the Cosmere is Elend/Vin. Can't beat it in my opinion. Will always be the scrappy little fangirl looking for my royal counterpart. Not to mention their both badass and supportive of each other as heck. 10/10.
  24. That is an AMAZING schedule. Yeah, you've got it 100% correct. I double checked! I think this will just be a re-reading of the main three books, BUT if those of you who are super-speed-readers wanna go for Edgedancer/Warbreaker than go straight ahead! You're free to discuss it here. Otherwise, it looks like we'll need that week, because the book comes out on the 17th of November. Thank you @Ixthos so much for this! So as it stands, our dates will be: July 13th-19th: Week 1 July 20th-26th: Week 2 July 27th-August 2nd: Week 3 August 3rd-9th: Week 4 August 10th-16th: Week 5 August 17th-23rd: Week 6 August 24th-30th: Week 7 August 31st-September 6th: Week 8 September 7th-13th: Week 9 September 14th-20th: Week 10 September 21st-27th: Week 11 September 28th-October 4th: Week 12 October 5th-11th: Week 13 October 12th-18th: Week 14 October 19th-25th: Week 15 October 26th-November 1st: Week 16 November 2nd-8th: Week 17 November 9th-15th: Week 18 November 17th: RHYTHM OF WAAARR! Anyone is allowed to join or leave at anytime. If you can't read all the chapters in one week, just make it up when you can (same goes for reading ahead, we're all gonna be different paces)! Yayyy! I'm so excited!
  25. Ummm that's amazing. I'd love to have that talent! Maybe you could just join in on the discussion then? Then you won't have to be bored by our relative slow-pace (although this is going to be speed-reading at this point for me lol). So I just did the math, and this whole thing will be about 19 chapters a week (which some weeks will be lighter than others depending on chapter size). That includes interludes, because I counted them as chapters. Is that good with everyone? Starting on Monday, I'll post my thoughts and whatever stood out and maybe a few fun questions! Anybody else have any thoughts on things/discussions/challenges we could do weekly? I love hearing all the ideas!
