  1. Probably combustion is cheaper than generate Heat with Compounding... Compounding heat is nice only for portability reasons. I doubt any industrial process will use it for actual replacement og old fashion combustion (or other source of energy)

  2. The Shardblades happen when a Spren is so hightly tied to the physical (thanks to the bond of a certain strenght with the knight) to be able to fully manifest into the PR.

Voidspren for now didn't exibited ever a bond of that intensity to allow this.
Notice this is true for a true large array of Splinters not only the Rosharan one

Could a Seon or a Skaze turn into some sort of Shardblade on their home planet?

    Brandon Sanderson

That is theoretically possible.  They work under the same fundamentals but they would need to have something to pull them more into the physical realm.

  3. Like Calderis said. At the moment we know almost nothing of what happened there.

Indeed it's also possible Dalinar didn't channeled Honor at all during his Realmsclap, the reaction Odium had from the scene is freaking out and yelling "WE KILLED YOU" notice the "We" that made a lot of people to think Dalinar was in some way channeling Adonalsium himself. Brandon has also always RAFOed if the "Unite them" come from Honor/SF.

Also the killing a Shard by killing its/their intent/mandate/purpose/ecc... is for now completely baseless as the only instances we saw with some details didn't mention something like that at all. One is of course from Mistborn and as I don't know if the OP read it I will skip it. The other is from Odium itself fearing a surprise attack from Cultivation that could be able to murder him.... Def neither of those are about killing or interacting with the "purposes" of Shards

  4. Maybe I am a bit late but the Shardblade VS Aluminium doubt is now solved for sure by in-book evidence.

In OB a Shardblade is directly stopped by a piece of Aluminium.

My own Wob someone else posted before needs probably to be updated

My personal opinion is that, because of the nature of the Dor and the way It has to follow a land/terrain to be able to fully unleash its own power, traversing the Cognitive Dor would be similar to traversing the land, but with the added danger of not being on a completely material plane.

It's not so simple, the Dor is super compressed Investiture. It's like staying in a plasma storm (by Brandon words) so It's simply extremely dangerous to be exposed to the Dor there.

We don't really have any evidence of temporal weirdness so far. There was a time when we weren't sure whether Elantris or Whie Sand happens first but that's simply because the God Beyond whose secret name is Brandon Sanderson hadn't nailed it down yet, rather than an in-universe discrepency. And by His Divine Fiat, other inconsistencies are sometimes changed via the magic known as 'revised editions'. :D

We know of time-travel existing in the sense that relativistic travel is technically travel through time albeit strictly in one direction. I suspect that Brandon's going to confine any and all alternate timeline ideas to the multiverse that Reckoners, Apocalypse Guard and Snapshot are part of, given that alternate universes is one of the core elements of that 'verse but it sounds like the possibility isn't completely ruled out in the Cosmere just yet.

He stated that White sand is before quite clearly.

And no I don't think there would ever be any alternative timeline in the Cosmere

  7. Also if the protection is ancorate to a specific object instead of the space itself.

I assume the object could be unbreakable but you would still suffer the pushes and be repositionable by outside forces.

A last note, the statement about Aons be indipentant by their physical medium's condition is something he arose from the limited perception of Elantrians as only magic users on Sel.

I assume every invested stuff would be able to disrupt the Aon if the comes in contact.

  8. The whole issue using the "the daughter didn't inherited" as argument for the chance of a God-Queen.

Is that the Daughter wasn't probably a Returned so she can't inherited the throne regardless if they would accept a queen instead of a king.

Also like others already pointed. The god-kings lineage is truly too short to make any kind of extrapolation from that.

There were like... 5 Godkings in the whole history and at least half of them aren't related by blood to the previous one

That would be interesting. If Type V is all about healing, it makes me wonder if the command Vasher used to remove the girl's memory was something like, "Remove her pain" and the breath "healed" her from the psychological truama she endured by repressing the memory.

Vasher did nothing, the girl used magic on herself with Vasher's guidance.

She used the command and her breath was involved. Vasher told her only how to do that

  10. Soulcasting and Forgery are actually extremely different and all the similarity are only superficials.

With Soulcasting you performe a permanent change to the structure of something, you don't touch its history and you don't need the plausibility to take place for this own reason.

A Air soulcasted to rock knows perfectly it was Air before and to be turned into Rock, it's written in its spiritweb.

With Forgery you alter the history of an object messing with his Soul, the Soul fights aganist the overlapping fake-soul you produce to revert to his rightful state, the Forgery is never permanent and depends deeply from the constant stream of Dor to remains in place (if you move a Forged object from the Rose empire it would break the forgery for example) and the true sou of the object is still there fighting to overcome the Magic.

With the example I used before, also if extremely unlikely Air Forged into Rock would believe that sometime in the past something happened (honestly I don't know what) that make it rock but under this overlay, the Air's Soul is still there untouched and will soon or later break free and destroy the forgery

  11. My view is for the Fused to lack of Adhesion as it's the surge closer to Honor (similirally as Progression is the surge most close to Cultivation) and one of the two the Bondsmith have.

By the way, we saw Fused in CR but it doesn't prove anything as there are many ways to cross the realms and one of them is strictly into the hands of Odium's forces.

Also Moash stated to saw the "blacksmith-type" of Fused (or something like that) and this to me means he saw Fused having access to Cohesion

Im not sure I understand why you think she'd be limited?  Is it because you believe Timbre is too busy proving her a Form like a normal Singer-bond, or because Timbre is too busy restraining the imprisoned Voidspren to manifest Physically?  I dont buy the Former because I dont think Timbre is currently involved in the Form at all.  The Latter I could see it going either way, with no real evidence to make me lean in either direction.  It certainly is possibly that however Timbre is restraining the Voidspren is a process that requires her to remain partially spiritual and actively focused on the restraint.  On the other hand, outside of the Godspren (that are clearly special cases) we havent seen a single instance where manifesting a blade interfered with surges or any other spren capabilities, so I'm hesitant to assume there will be one here.

The latter, whatever Timbre is performing with the Voidspren requires her to stay in the gemheart and bully the Voidspren. She can't manifest herself as Blade and at the same time doing that. So for me Timbre manifesting as a Blade would mean for the Voidspren to gain measure of freedom and influence over Venli.

  13. I strongly believe that Venli would be unable to summon a Blade in the state she is in.

If in a future moment, Venli will change Form turning into a not Regal form, Timbre is no more required to keep in check the Voidspren in her and she could in theory be not restricted into her gemheart.

  14. A shard could develop a mind of its own if lefted alone long enough. But it's just one of the possible outcomes, another is the auto-splintering of the Shard itself.

Regardless, as the developing of the mind is something gradual... Probably in the early stages of its new formed mind, the Shard would simply start to active seek a proper Vessel in an active way

@Calderis I would argue it's a mix of both planet and Shard, considering the whole Rosharan system is 10-centric bar Braize, when the only real difference is Odium residing on Braize. Considering Scadrial being 16-centric and it being created by Preservation, who specifically chose 16 as a number to help people discover the Atium mistings, I do think it can be dependent on both.

On the topic of the thread, I am convinced the number 3 is very important to Roshar and its system - 3 Bondsmith spren, 3 inhabited planets, 3 moons, 3 Horneater Gods, and to a lesser extent the 3 Shards in the system.

Scadrial was made by both Ruin and Preservation in the same amount, but much more, there is no sense in choosing the 16 (or any other specific number) from Preservation. Whatever the number is, Pres had only to enforce it in the natural pattern to show a sign of design (what he did after all)... He didn't require the 16 specifically

  16. I am not truly sure of what you wanted to propose.

In Allomancy, you have a SpiritWeb able to tap from Preservation using a subset of specific metals as gateway for the Preservation's power stream. The molecular structure of those metals shapes the raw Preservation's Investiture into one of the Allomantic Powers.

On Therenody, the local silver could interact with the local Cognitive Shadows knowed as Shades. They are hurt by it and the wounds they leave could be healed applying that silver on the damaged part.

Now, if I understood correctly your idea, you find some paralles between this two phenomens. And I could see your point in a loose way.

But as we known very few of the Therenody's phenomen it's hard to understand how much different they are, some critical differences are:

    - Preservation is not involved

    - The Silver is ruined but not destroyed, this imply an alteration of the metal rather than a "burning" in allomantic sense.

    - The amount of silver required to interact with Shades doesn't seem constant. A relative high amount of Silver is required to heal someone from the Shades's corruction ability and to harm a shade (that in theory is just a tiny fraction of a Shade) and a relative small amount is required to hard or kill a Shard (that has a magnitude more investiture than the corruption in a mortal)... This suggest more a direct interaction between the metal and the Shade's Soul (like some items shown in other places) rather than a slow "burning" effect.

Ok now, what I didn't understand. Was your whole point about Allomancy or it was about a broader scope ?

PS: As this topic touchs both Mistborn and SfSitFoH some mod probably need to move it into the Cosmere Section or you have at least to modify the title to include the possibility of Spoiler from the other book

That should really be Kaladin's main issue "Why aren't you dead?!". Even in the revised ending he takes away Szeth's ability to fly and Szeth falls into that superstorm. Everyone should also be asking Kaladin "I thought you killed him?"

With the increased understanding of Surgebinding, I feel the "someone healed me" is a really easy explaination (regardless if he was a Radiant or a Fabrial).

By the way, I fel weird that after the discovery of Shallan/Jasnah as Soulcasters and the usage of Oathgates.... Nobody even wondered if it is possible the existence of Fabrials able to performe the other surges
