  1. I finished the book a few days ago and I enjoyed it a lot. I'd heard about the Sanderson Avalanche, and by this point I'm starting to see the pattern. Everything happens in the last hundred pages or so, right? I was truly surprised with how things played out. Sanderson always does a good job making you think you know what's going on, that you have it all figured out, then completely turning things on their head in a way that still makes perfect sense. I really hope we'll see more of Nalthis at some point. And with Nightblood (and maybe Rasher?) on Roshar, who knows where things will go from here.
  2. Right now I'm going to guess that the God-King is a puppet, figuratively and/or literally. Siri, Vivenna, and Lightsong will probably overthrow the power behind the throne, narrowly averting a disastrous war. Not sure yet what will happen with Vasher and Nightblood, though I'm very interested now in the theory that Nightblood ends up on Roshar. Another thing that's interested me is how transformative the Shard can be. Elantris and Warbreaker alike have ordinary humans changed into godlike beings, and if you add in the wraiths from Forests of Hell, it begins to seem like radically changing/resurrecting people is a common theme in the magic of the Cosmere.
  3. I found a copy at the bookstore and I'm already a 130 pages in! Been looking forward to reading this one for a while, and I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far. It's definitely everything I've come to enjoy in a Sanderson story.
  4. I had the idea that the storms started sometime in the distant past and Shinovar is simply the only place in the world where the original ecology has survived instead of adapting to the new environment. They explain that it's relatively unaffected by the highstorms due to it's westerly location and being surrounded by mountains, so that was my thinking.
  5. I'm hoping to go see it with my best friend today.
  6. I finally decided to get back into the Drizzt books with Neverwinter! It's been so long since I read Gauntlgrym that there are about six more books to read at this point. Of course, that's what I call a good problrm. Other than that, I recently began the second volume of the Chronicles of Chrestomanci.
  7. But just imagine what the world of the shard of memes would be like? Memeborn wield memes against one another in battle, the memesmiths would be busy at work crafting ever more viral memes. The power of memes would come from their hold over the general populace: so long as a meme remains popular and relevant, it holds power, but as they fail to retain attention and elicit a response, they fade away. Consequently, there is a magical arms race at work, as the memesmiths forever seek to outdo one another. Some memes last forever, and dynasties have been built on their power: ever do the Catlords reign supreme.
  8. In The Well of Ascension, Vin has a metallurgist researching possible alloys of aluminum, and it's stated that they go through numerous alloys before discovering duralumin. In The Alloy of Law, they've since discovered several other metals and it's implied they're still researching more. What kind of process is involved here? I'm no chemist, but there are surely a vast number of potential alloys for any given metal. How do they know what metals to add or remove in which concentrations?
  9. Fanspren sounds perfect. Man, that just works.
  10. I really loved Elantris. It seemed unique as fantasy goes, in not dealing with a "save the world" type plot. I appreciate how it takes a relatively smaller perspective and handles such a disturbing concept so well. And I love how, when I think back on it, I can see that the Cosmere's general magic system was present even then. As for a favorite character... probably Vin. I found her relatable and interesting. She has that quality that makes you really want to root for her.
  11. This forum was recommended to me in a thread over at r/AskScienceFiction after I was asking some Cosmere-related questions. I've been making my way through Sanderson's books over the last few months (and discovering some new authors along the way) and I can definitely say I am excited about the fate of the Cosmere. So I look forward to talking to all of you!
