[Spoilers]David Got Seriously Screwed [\spoliers]
StormingTexan replied to Localconfusi0n's topic in The Reckoners
Don't know why I couldn't remember that! I'm going to re-read a little because now I'm doubting myself. I was thinking the ball and chain thing was after a little while but now I remember it was close to the begening. Not sure if he started talking about the water before this happened now. -
[Spoilers]David Got Seriously Screwed [\spoliers]
StormingTexan replied to Localconfusi0n's topic in The Reckoners
I think anyone would say that is traumatic. That is a pretty recent thing though and the water stuff came up before this. On the contrary the whole reason he was where he was to have a ball chained to him was the traumatic experience of his dad being killed in front of him. -
[Spoilers]David Got Seriously Screwed [\spoliers]
StormingTexan replied to Localconfusi0n's topic in The Reckoners
I agree I think David's weakness to water is a huge assumption and maybe just a red herring. There was no past traumatic experience with water mentioned and I don't see how it wouldn't be if there was one. I think he was more uncomfortable or unfamiliar around water than afraid of it. This is from lack of experience with it. Slowly he became more comfortable with it like when he used the water jet pack thing (can't think of the name). It wasn't his greatest fear maybe just "a fear". Not anything like fire for Megan who almost died in a house fire. The only traumatic experience that is revealed over and over is his fathers death (which had nothing to do with water) so I think it's a lot more logical to assume it has something to do with that. My guess is it's a fear of being a coward or inaction. -

Adolin Radiancy? (Potential Spoilers)
StormingTexan replied to FlatLine's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah there was a pretty recent thread with some pretty strong arguments for Edgedancer but everything is super circumstantial IMO including the original post here. No offense intended it is fun to speculate but seems like everyone kind of interprets traits Adolin has and associates it with the order they think he should belong to. I kind of agree with the 2nd and 3rd comment here that Adolin will not end up being a radiant. Of course this is also just speculation. -
I actually liked The Emperors Soul al lot more than Elantris. I hope we get to see more Forging in another book someday. My biggest Sanderson surprise (that I would like it) was the Reckoners books I just finished them can't wait for Calamity.

Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]
StormingTexan replied to MitchBade's topic in Stormlight Archive
Then maybe an asterisk needs to be added that it is Nalan's group of Skybreakers not necessarily the KR order of Skybreakers. Its on wiki page for the KR order of Skybreakers. If it was on Szeths page I guess it wouldn't be a big deal. I think it is a little misleading. -
Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]
StormingTexan replied to MitchBade's topic in Stormlight Archive
On this topic the coppermind says this below. I think this is kind of misleading and too definitive when it should be phrased more speculative. -

Only thing I really saw coming was Prof being an epic. Something about the "technology" they were using seemed too far out there to be real technology as I got the impression this book took place in what we would consider near future Earth. I was thrown a little off when they started in with the machines built off of epics DNA but still felt in my gut Prof was an epic. The one I did not see coming at all was Megan being an epic. That is until she died then I thought yeah she is not really dead and will end up being an epic.

Any theories as to how Nightblood... [spoilers]?
StormingTexan replied to Bondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Threads like this give me the internal debate on if I would rather Brandon publish Nightblood or SA3 next if I had a say in it. I think we will learn a lot more about Nightblood in SA3 but still be left with the question on how Vasher and Nightblood ended up on Roshar until Nightblood is published. I'm with those that think they both went to Roshar together and somehow were separated. Zahel does not seem to want to find Nightblood that much either or perhaps we just haven't seen enough from his POV. As for as his fighting skills I do not think we can judge with what we saw in Warbreaker. We really do not know how much time has passed between Warbreaker and now. He could simply have gotten better with time even though he seemed pretty good to me. We also do not know just how good compared to say Adolin Denth was (and the other guy cant remember his name). They were considered the best which still wasn't good enough to kill Vasher but may be far superior than Adolin with a sword. Blaze made a good point too why would he be training Renarin? Also wasn't it Zahel who trained Adolin too or am I remembering that incorrectly? -
"Rip off" was probably too harsh but yes I see what you mean.

It's a kinda slow start but gets a lot better. Second book was meh for me but I liked the name of the wind. I'm almost done with The Magicians and not sure what I think. It feels like a rip off of Harry Potter and Chroncals of Narnia just rated R. I've heard the second and third books are better I'll at least give the second a chance.

I agree on this. I have found I can be a lot more forgiving on adaptations if I watch the movie first then read the book. It is near impossible to put everything a book has on the screen but sometimes movies can really help you visualize a book. I thought lotr did a good job at this. I am really nervous about an upcoming movie adaptation The Martian. The book is mainly the protagonist journal really curious how this will translate on screen. On the opposite end of the spectrum one insanely horrible adaptation was Dune. Straying away from a book or not including things is understandable in a normal 2 hour movie but in this case stuff was just made up and added for no apparent reason. Like the cat..

Brandon's newsletter got stuck in my stupid spam folder so I just now read the teaser. Man what a teaser too all it left were a bunch of questions as have been mentioned in the thread. I'm not too surprised Tia is laying low. She would have had to be pretty close to the action to run ops since they were only using radios. I am pretty surprised Megan was on the team though Cody and Abraham have just as much reason as Mizzy I'd think to not want her on the team. Knighthawk being an epic is an interesting theory makes a lot of sense though. Can't wait to see what happens! Edit: seems like an awful lot of stuff happened between Firefight and Calamity. Here's wishful thinking we will get a 2.5 to fill in some gaps before Calamity

Haven't read this massive thread but I did read the Kingkiller Chronicle books. I loved the first one the second one I finished and all I could think was what the heck did I just read. I do not think a single meaningful thing happened that answered any questions I had from the first book. The sex with a fae was way too detailed, long and unbelievable even for a fantasy book. All that being said I can't even say I didn't like it. I mean I didn't like the story but still liked the writing. It's one of the weirdest reactions I've had after reading a book. Of course I'll buy the third book the day it's released I'm sure.

^^That made me LOL IRL

Man I need to stop watching this thread because now I want Brandon to write MLP books just so I can find out what the heck the Draconequus society is about. I know the simple answer is to google that... Sorry I can't bring myself to google anything about MLP so unless Brandon writes about it I will never know.

Haha for a while I was thinking Brandon had some unpublished My Little Pony books I just didn't know about.

I also think David could have epic powers. I think when he rejected Calamity he rejected the Rending not obtaining powers. That was why Calamity stopped talking to him because David would not go through the Rending doing Calamity's bidding killing like crazy. Basically he rejected Calamity but he could not reject the epic powers. I also think water is not David's fear. Sure he may be scared to be in a submarine but it is not his "Worst Fear". Does he have nightmares about water? I do not remember this if he did. Nothing in his past has suggested he had some traumatic experience with water either. Basically I think the fear of water is a red hearing. I think his worst fear is actually being a coward like he felt he was when his father died. He has inadvertently overcome this fear to an extent in what has happened in the events of the books but now if he has epic powers I can see a scenario where this weakness is turned against him. The thing about Prof gifting the powers does not make sense I agree. But... I think it is possible David's powers are just similar to Prof's (if not a little better) and he was not gifted Prof's powers at all. The thing we haven't really seen is how Epics discover they have powers. I mean some are probably pretty obvious but I am guessing it takes some time to discover like discovering their weakness. Not to mention we are in David's POV and it hasn't really been discussed in a lot of detail what an epic mentally or physically "does" to make a power work. We know some are just unconscious reactions like Obliteration and his danger teleporting but others require the epic to do something. I think this may be believing they can do one of their powers. It is about the epics perception. David "knew" that Prof had gifted him powers and "thought" the healing should slow down like shields eventually wear out. He didn't perceive his own powers healing him at the same speed therefore they did not. Of course this is all wild speculation. I agree with just about everyone I think it would be better for David to not be an Epic but sparks I just see Brandon throwing this curveball.
