  1. The issue is also, contractually, Black Widow was supposed to get an exclusively theatrical release. By releasing it concurrently on Disney+, Disney opened themselves to a breach of contract suit. The estimated loss of revenue is to demonstrate harm done so the courts will allow the case to move forward. I suspect at that point, it'll get settled out of court for an undisclosed amount that will be less than the estimated loss.

Basically, by doing it this way, Disney has managed to pay Scarlett Johansson less than if they had renegotiated the contract like her agent was trying to do. Scar-Jo does not want to pay for an expensive lawsuit that she can potentially lose and Disney's legal team has probably all ready done an analysis where Disney stands to gain in this situation.

Oh, I didn't know it had a sequel.  Neat!

    Just came out!

It's part of the High Republic portion of Star Wars that is using different "mediums" to tell stories in a time a few hundred years before Episode 1.

So books ("adult", YA, middle grade and children's),  comics and eventually manga a little later this year.

Get in on the ground floor on canon that won't be acknowledged anywhere else! *laugh-sobs*

Got through A Crown of Swords, which is probably my least favorite of Wheel of Time book so far, and The Path of Daggers, as well as Ruin and Rising, so now I'm done with Shadow and Bone.  It was okay.  I actually got a little emotional at the end, so I think it was pretty well done.  Probably not going to read Six of Crows.

I got An Ember in the Ashes and Light of the Jedi, both of which I've heard a lot about, so we'll see how good those are.

Light of the Jedi was fun. I'll be reading it's sequel, The Rising Storm, soon

Finished The Eye of the World, and am now reading Fires of Heaven.  So far, it's pretty good.  Question: could someone tell me the ages of some of the main characters, specifically the Emond's Fielders?  I'd go on the wiki, but I don't want to spoil myself.

I have to live life, like a normal person :(

Not implying anything about your age, just read this and seemed suitably melancholic for this occasion -_-

It's also not really fair because Dragonlance did the same thing a decade and a half earlier

It is quite possible that both Dragonlance and Malazan cause harm to the fantasy genre.

    Along with Forgotten Realms!

    Anyhow, today's controversial opinion:

Critical Role is ruining Tabletop Gaming

    Spoiler

Now, granted, lots of things are ruining Tabletop Gaming at a much worse manner than Critical Role, but that's not controversial!

I know I'm late to the game, but I'm currently watching Invincible and The Boys S2 on Netflix. Both are pretty great, and both have involvement with Seth Rogen, I've found.

I'm interested to see what Seth does with Darkwing Duck!

  8. I mean, Sanderson is all ready a household name. You do not need a Netflix adaptation to be one or to make obscene amounts of money.

Here's the thing: Brandon has written YA because, he claims, it helps refresh him and keep him from burning out. That's fine. It's part of the process to reliably get Cosmere books (which most Sanderfans are here for. Sorry/not sorry) so people shouldn't be too upset with them because they aren't really causing a delay.

You know what does cause delays? Failed projects (Apocalypse Guard) and "offical branded stories" (Magic: the Gathering novella). Those two were the principle reasons for the delay in the Lost Metal.

Skyward isn't causing delays. It allowed him to fulfill contractual obligations when Apocalypse Guard failed and he's been able to write each installment at his typical pace.

But we don't know if that'll be the case with future YA series. We also don't know if his other side projects are going to impact his writing speed (currently, it does not look like it. But if he keeps gathering side projects, something will have to give).

It does seem like he's aware of this, so hopefully after Skward is finished, his breather project will be Rithmatist 2 and not something new. Because if we are talking business sense, the longer it takes for that book to appear, the less business sense it makes to write or publish (and that assumes the current publisher of Rithmatist doesn't fold, get reorganized or bought complicating the fate of that book and any potential sequel).

We gonna get real vulnerable in here now: anyone else feel like they have no right to talk about pride?  I never really "came out" because 1) I don't share anything with my family [they're sincerely some of the worst, most toxic people I've ever known - at least if they were clinical sociopaths they'd have an excuse, but nope] and 2) When I started making friends as an adult I already knew, so that's all they've known about me.  I've never had to risk losing someone or something, so I don't feel like I've had to do anything difficult enough to be proud of.

I mean, I'm a hetero giving advice in a Pride topic, so you'll always have more right to talk about it than me!

Anyone still trying to figure their status out? I’m for sure asexual but the romance side is the part I keep struggling with. I’m not really heteroromantic, homoromantic, biromantic or aromantic and I’m not sure which of panromantic, demiromantic or grey romantic fit best for me since the meanings are so similar. Like I’m more interested in women for romance but if a man happens to be the one for me I’ll go with him since I’d rather be with someone who I’ll be happy with than being with a gender preference and being miserable.

At a certain point, I wouldn't worry about labeling every granule aspect of your identity.

Start off first with what you know. Than, using the various other terms, you can formulate a description of what you would want in a relationship. The key is to communicate clearly your wants and needs, and even if you eventually find another term that fits you, you will likely have to provide a description anyway. So "I am asexual, and I look for so-on-and-so-forth in a relationship" would be very useful to you while you lack a term for the "so-on-and-so-forth" part.

Why wouldn’t it be Rothfuss? It’s his series, just because it’s taking forever doesn’t mean he’s gonna give it to someone else.

    I just don't think he'll ever write it :P

And of course Brandon would never agree to write it. It's waaaaay outside his wheel(of time)house and he has too much stuff he wants to do. I can't imagine him putting everything on hold again to agree to write the final book in another series which will end up being 3 books.

  12. @BenduLuke Lord of the Flies was written by William Golding, one of my favorites.

It's kinda a shame. He wrote a lot more and, as a result, won the Nobel Prize in literature. Though not exceedingly difficult to find, his other works outside of Lord of the Flies are not widely available. I don't think my school even mentioned any of the above, it was just focused on the one book.

He even wrote an alternative history story that debut in a collection alongside a Mervyn Peake story! :o
