  1. I can see Feruchemists with being able to store Weight, Senses, Warmth, Wakefulness, Breath, Determination, Nutrition and Age they might as well store for their whole lives then send one out in a pressured capsule in a general direction. Feruchemy has so many uses B)

  2. Elhokar going for a race to the top of a cliff is the only real candidate for a love of adventure, and even granting that shows one is adventurous (I disagree), if he does that one thing in a year, then I would say it's not very character defining.

I can definitely see what you're saying, and am half there... but Elhokar charging the Chasmfiend in TWoK seemed to me like something pretty adventurous/erratic to do. All in all though, we haven't really seen enough of Elhokar to determine what radiant order he'd be in (if he is in one at all).

  3. I've done this! I just started one of my friends off with Mistborn...I didn't, however, tell him about the vortex of awesomeness and time that he will be sucked into when he finds 17s.

It's funny, every time I see him, I ask him where he is in the Final Empire, and he's such a slow reader, it's all I can do not to spoil.

I understand, trying to not spoil is like..... avoiding the temptation to have a cookie, I'm actually lending out three books (WoK, Steel heart AND Mistborn)

you know you're a sanderfan when you compare cookies to.... well anything really

  4. You missed probably the most important jedi advantage: forsight. Jedi reflexes, as described, are extremely similar to someone burning atium, which is a huge advantage.

I seem to recall a time when that Jedi precognition failed.... Execute order 66....

Also, even though it was mentione Windrunners get a serious combat skill buff simply by being wind runners. Also I don't think anyone has really brought in the factor of where they're fighting. I lean towards the Shardblade for various reasons, but I think this is turning into a Radiants vs Jedi post at this point.

  5. He later corrected himself. Honorblades can be bound:

He's also said that Honorblades work for anyone who holds them. Bonding doesn't seem to be necessary. (Though, maybe just by holding it you get a bond.)

Alright, it looks like the wiki hadn't been updated for a bit. Do you know if he means bonding as in being able to summon it (we saw Szeth summon it, so definitely the bond does that), or that it is possible to unlock the power that I assume the Heralds could achieve with an Honorblade, though they may just be more powerful in a sense.

  6.

    Hey guys,

I'm relatively new to the Cosmere.  I started with The Stormlight Archives and after reading WoK, I waited for WoR.  After loving that, I craved more and eventually found out that Many of his books were at least somewhat connected. Just finished Elantris and the short story after it. Moving on to Mistborn.  And finally, food for thought, I wonder what Sanderson could do with a tropical/amazonian-esque environment paired with one of his always amazing magic systems?

    Thanks everyone!

    -Mggee

He's already made a semi-amazonian/tropical type story, it's called Sixth of the Dusk, while it may be a short story it's pretty awesome (as with all of Brandons work). Welcome to 17th Shard!

  7. Sorry to nitpick, but on the Stormlight archive it stated this; Similarly, at a book signing, Brandon stated that a Honorblade cannot be bonded to anyone; only given. This raises the question though: What does an Honorblade do when bonded? I assume that this is how the Heralds threatened the potential Radiants into the order (seen that somewhere, can't find the source though). As for the question you actually asked, I can simply say that during the fight between Kaladin and Szeth at the end of WoR seemed pretty evenly matched, with the exception being Szeth consuming more stormlight. http://stormlightarchive.wikia.com/wiki/Honorblade

  8. I am all about this! (Mistborn are really cool, but Feruchemists are so much cooler in my opinion). But that still leaves a risk. Even if a stealrunner charged his gun, he still risks a chance that a strong enough coinshot/lurcher could manipulate his gun. I can't help but think of Vin yanking the bracers of the Lord Ruler. Of course she was charged up with the mists.... But at what point are you strong enough to manipulate invested metal... It's guess it's hard to gauge.

What I suppose could be done is that the Steelrunner could have the gun made mostly of aluminum, but have a little open-up compartment to an inner core of steel. Not sure, but I believe that anything coated by aluminum is protected from allomancy, this raises the question of how a large an aluminum hat must be to prevent the effects of emotional allomancy.

  9. Granted - you are able to wish anything you wish, and the opposites of those wishes are granted.

I wish that reading books multiple times improved them on each reading

Granted- Your bane is to see all things your mind define as letters or words upside-down

I wish to be able to understand why people say a statement, and all the thought behind it.

  10. Hi! Well I'm doing a post on introductions. Fun times, anyways you may have seen a couple posts by me (Forgot this was a thing). I've lurked around a bit, unsure really what to post on and what not to post on. My favorite series include: everything Brandon has written so far and... actually I don't have too much of an opinion on other books anymore.. some other Epic Fantasy? Anyways, I'm here.

  11. Hmm, Calamity. I think (if The Reckoners turn out to be in the cosmere) that it would be the result of someone collecting Odium and Endowment and putting them together, but maybe not Odium...? I think we just don't know enough about Odiums exact intent.... I.E. what does he hate? Everything? People? Life? We have very little idea.

  12. Otherwise...why would he bother to mention it?

To mess with our minds, as per usual. Quite honestly though, I think what occurred was that whatever this force was, either attacked or was attacked by Adolnasium, and they both kept pushing until both of them shattered. This is assuming the opposing force to Adolnasium was a being capable of being shattered, or it was suicide, or PERHAPS it was something similar to the recreance, after which the force swept him away. This raises the question though, Where did that force go?

  13. I'm fairly certain that aluminum is common enough, but is just in such tiny deposits throughout the world that it's just frustrating to get enough to do anything with. (that was the case here on earth before technology reached the point we could collect it all easily)

  14. Soulburst, for sure- I'm assuming storing investiture stores bits of innate investiture (but you're not invested enough to be immune to lashings, etc) but by compounding it you could quite literally become immune to other users of investiture, e.g. a shardblade- according to WoB they are immune to lashings, steelpushes, etc- so by becoming a super-invested object you would [probably] become immune to every direct use of investiture on you. A coin slammed into my head would still kill me, but just using nicrosil to empty reserves on the opponent, I could remove their chance of that. Is everyone following my logic here? We still don't fully understand what a Nicrosil ferring does yet, but I'm pretty certain it would do something like I said.

  15. I'm going on supposition here but follow me.  Ruin and Preservation are opposites (obviously).  The metal form of preservation grants you allomancy permanently and it's liquid form gives you incredible power that burns up quickly (and you don't have to be an allomancer to use it...ie Rashek).  Ruin's metal form gives you power that burns up quickly (if you are already an allomancer)...does it stand to reason that being exposed to it's liquid form would grant you some power permanently?

Also...I read in a few places on the forum that Alendi had a spike in him.  The only thing that I have been able to find that suggests this is the log book entry below...but it doesn't seem definitive.  Is there a WoB on this or something?

I think I’ve finally discovered why Rashek resents me so very much. He does not believe that an outsider such as myself - a foreigner - could possibly be the Hero of Ages. He believes that I have somehow tricked the philosophers, that I wear the piercings of the Hero unjustly.

Also...if we are operating on the assumption that Alendi was, in fact, spiked...do you think that Ruin made him stop Fedik from touching Ruin's shardpool? (see logbook entry below)

The lake that Fedik discovered is below us now - I can see it from the ledge. It looks even more eerie from up here, with its glassy - almost metallic - sheen. I almost wish I had let him take a sample of its waters.

Well, I think it might be tricky, but not impossible that those piercings were hemalurgic (I think they are though) as Ruin was mostly trapped, but then again mentally unstable people are relatively easy for him to affect (this just makes me curious as to how they became hemalurgic, if they are). Regardless, if I were Ruin waiting for Alendi to release the power, I would want to be at full strength for when Alendi released Preservations power to destroy the world. So yes, I think Ruin made Alendi stop Fedrik from touching Ruins shardpool.

  16. After having a bit of a thought, and looking at the coppermind I've noticed some things, mostly involving Nale (or Nalan).. is he actually who he says he is? According to the coppermind, he is Darkness, he who hunted Lift and killed Ym, both who were potential radiants, then gave Szeth Nightblood. I know that Nalan hunts down people who have commited crimes, but if he is just finding people who he thinks should suffer for committing injustices, where is the talk of massive strings of murders in crime-ridden towns? It seems to me that he could be working for Odium, or something like him, to prevent the Radiants from returning in strength- but still trying to maintain the guise of Nalan. Note that I didn't throw in Szeth randomly, he could very easily be using Szeth to an end. I may be completely off, but I thought it MIGHT be relevant.
