Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Please forgive me for what is a rather long post, but I implore you to stick with me. I will attempt to make it somewhat interesting reading, and for the most part I hope you will find it informative. Please allow me to justify some of my decision making in regards to my protection of Kaddar and the events following, as there has been a fair bit of discussion at how odd some of the actions appeared. 1. Defence of Kaddar: Kas has become a well-spoken and trusted player in this particular game. Something that I find handy to keep around. He was also very suggestive in the lead up to the skirmish that the good guardsman should double the protection on Luckat, our only definite good guy with a powerful weapon. Understanding the logic of that, I of course, chose not to. That left me with three options according to our little protection list, Macen Wilson and Kaddar. I certainly want going to protect Macen after placing a vote on him early that I didn’t plan on withdrawing, so I was left with a 50/50. Wilson was the obvious choice there, being the officer and as a result, more helpful, but I went with my gut and guessed right. I am the non-spy guardsman, a role I am (almost) certain that Luckat will not claim, simply because it is not his. 2. Decision to not step forward as the good guardsman: This I suggest will be the hardest part of my explanation that you will find the hardest to swallow, seeing as there were a number of big names whom I trusted, calling for me to claim my action. I can really only put it down to selfishness and perhaps a little strategy. With a battle coming up, a role blocked surgeon, and hints to a somewhat organised spy team, there will most likely be 2 or 3 successful assassinations at the end of this cycle. Targets for these assassinations include Norlav, Tal, Wilson, Kaddar and Jost. I am under the impression that at least Tal, Wilson and Jost have the capability to skip the coming battle, making them poor targets for the spy teams. (In hindsight there is an argument where role over votes may come into play, but with the possibility of another battle sitting at a lowly 20%, that really doesn’t make much sense. Better to eliminate as many people as possible now.) If I were to come forward as the good guardsman, I would quickly fill the third slot alongside Norlav and Kaddar and be eliminated this cycle. Something that appears to be an inevitability now. If I held my silence, as I chose to do however, the spies could either select Norlav or Kaddar twice, or have a blind stab at random dark eyes, possibly hitting one of their own, or possibly (this is the selfish part), hitting someone other than me. 3. Remaining silent after being called out by Mek: Now we get to the fun part (Renegade, this is a little ode to you and your call for blood). I decided to stay silent and wait for a while, figuring that if I remained silent for long enough, whilst still noticeably on the page, my level of alleged guilt would rise in the minds of loyal warriors. Hopefully enough that one, who did not share the same loyalties, would feel comfortable enough to perhaps attempt to have my head in the form of a bandwagon. Enter Mailli. How convenient that you have had suspicions of me all game, from the very outset!!, and neglected to speak of them for the entire time except of course your ‘poke’ vote on the first day. In fact you neglect to speak of me at all until the possibility arises that I may be lynched. The only players you really expressed suspicion of were Wilson and Odysa, a topic of popular discussion where you could remain relevant without giving much away. Then there was Meta and Reihmer, your suspicion of Meta in fact was in very similar circumstances as your suspicion of me currently, and we all know how that turned out. Reihmer was a throwaway poke as far as I’m concerned, and I won’t go into it here. Now let’s go back a bit. This may be the pettiest of my arguments, but not withdrawing your poke vote on the first cycle seemed off, even if others had done the same. I later asked for a clarification, being new to the game. In my mind I was giving you an out, needing only to say, “I was busy” and that would have been the end of it, but no such clarification came. There was of course the scandal with the light eyes vote, a topic which has already be discussed in much deal, so I will only bring it up to freshen peoples memory. This of course being, where you accept the light eyes vote in return for appearing innocent. Then there was your last minute vote on Meta which I find suspicious, although could plausibly be explained by technical issues. Although you also mentioned in that post that you would explain your hints come Monday, although no explanation came other than that you had had suspicions of Meta, followed by some rather obvious suggestions. One such suggestion was the role blocking of Odysa, stating in no uncertain terms that you thought this would save lives. If you thought her a threat why not lynch her? My explanation would be that you were hoping Wilson would agree with you, taking out of play one of our more powerful roles. I now turn to your most recent post. You speak as though my guilt is certain without giving me a chance to defend myself. Rather heavy handed. As it has been stated by a couple of people recently, I have had a tendency to play rather passively, and so it pains me a little to be made to do this. But an eye for an eye my friend. If you are so brazen as to accuse people of absolute guilt, I would be cautious of the responses you may get. This was fun! I'll certainly be playing again! Marand- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Options, from most sadistic to least. 1. Dalinar, then who cares if there are spies in his army. 2. In the event that Macen or Joe get lynched, kill the other, just to cover bases. 3. Suicide. I don't know why you would, but its an option? 4.Take a stab at someone who is not particularly active to try and uncover a sleeper agent i.e. Jasnah, maybe Mek or Karlin. 5. Pick a dark eyes that you find the most suspicious but has been a bit more active, might give some useful info with either a hit or miss. 6. Let the group consensus decide on the target, might save your conscience a little, but open to manipulation. 7. Don't use it. My personal advice: Trust yourself because you can't trust anyone else. Ask your own questions, make your own conclusions, and if you're sitting at 75-80% certain that someone is a spy, stick-em. Edit: Blue- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Eoldren! Trouble… Eoldren had been sarcastically marching through the street, minding his own business when he heard his name called from behind. Tone and volume suggested light eyes… Trouble… With a sudden burst of acceleration, sarcastic marching became sarcastic double-time and Eoldren did his best impression of Charlie Chaplin running to the Benny Hill Theme Song. (Who, what? Roshar? Eh..) Perhaps it was ill fate or perhaps an excess of sarcasm was what caused him to trip and fall, but either way he found himself looking up at Kaddar, one of the more agreeable light eyes, but still, definitely not someone to be singled out by. Helping himself to his feet, (Kaddar wasn’t That agreeable), Eoldren though he caught a glimpse of indecision in those perfectly light eyes. “What do you think about the situation with spies in the camp?” Well now this could be an interesting conversation. Eoldren turned around to see who the question was addressed to. “Eoldren, what do you think about the situation with spies in the camp?” Fighting the urge to attempt sarcastically teleporting to another world, he turned back slowly. Perhaps he’d better answer the question. ………… Firstly I would like to highlight that Dalinar’s vote was absent again and as such I would like to know where each light eyes placed their vote. Including Norlav, if I’m correct in assuming he has one as the heterochromic. In addition to that, I would like some pressure applied to those who have not been forthcoming with the target for their secret votes. Wilson has been good with this however she is really the only one. MAcen. If you don’t mind, I would like your previous targets as well as whom you plan to vote for this time round. Following Norlav’s logic, where either Macen or Joe are the Spy Officer, it follows that the other, or perhaps Norlav is the surgeon. Begs the question do we risk attempting to eliminate an opposition officer and have the chance of killing our best protection. I am willing to focus on the dark eyes suspects for now IF there is more transparency with the light eyed vote. Otherwise that becomes a major issue. Now. As to where my vote will stay for the duration of the evening, if the light eyes are forthcoming with the information which we decided early should be posted, and agreed upon on the forum, then I am inclined to agree with Newan and the vote for the obvious strategy. If not, it will stay on whichever light eyes I deem most suspicious. Edit: I'm curious as to the choice of words Kas, "Dubious about the wisdom"? Is it that you believe I am a spy? Or that you believe me not particularly helpful?- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification

I'm not quite sure I understand where all the heat is coming from when it comes to Wilson, or any other light eyes for that matter. I'm running with the general consensus that there are 4 spies, meaning I think it very unlikely that there would be another one other than jain in that group. I'm certainly not saying its not a possibility, although when we have a highstorm coming up where whoever is lynched is certain to die, there's no way I will be putting my vote on Joe, Kas, Macen or Wilson. This may be inexperience or naivety, but that's what I'm running with at the moment.- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Against my better judgement I think I'll discard the innumerous warnings about your evil ways and accept your reasoning for the time being. Although I'm sure sooner rather than later I will be adding to your evil rep doc, perhaps in games to come. I'd like a little more though before jumping on the Odysa bandwagon though. Reihmer, I'm interested to have you expand on that, as after my brief skimming of MR 3, Twei seems to be less talkative this game then she was then. But then if we are taking silence as a sign of guilt, half the people playing are probably spies. Also just a random little thought. Although there are quite a few quiet players at the moment, perhaps we should be directing the brunt of the pressure on the light eyes who have not been particularly active. As discussed previously there is likely only one spy, perhaps two in the light eyes group, and so if they were found, the others would be relatively trust worthy. Not to mention, if the light eyed spy(s) were found early, that would rule out any possible secret vote mischief later in the game. So as a method of clearing a few names, perhaps perhaps that would be a good place to pick up at the end of this cycle. Thoughts?- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
At the risk of sounding like an eliminator trying to bring suspicion upon Wilson, I thought I’d go back and see if I could find some of this manipulation. Mostly I agree with that, (maybe because there is none, or maybe because I’m too feeble minded to find it) but there was one post that bugged me. Particularly since you have called out Kas on potential eliminator strategizing. The one where you called attention to the vote switching and band wagoning and so on in cycle 1. It could definitely be plausible that you only mentioned it as a warning to eliminators about what actions might be considered suspicious, and then saying that since you have brought this up, they might abstain from voting or keep in the middle votes. That could be seen as a suggestion on how to stay inconspicuous. Your reasoning for bringing this up, in that you would make a good target and would die early, is sound I think, so I am in no way convinced of any guilt. Though as you are not dead, and if Kas’s ‘plan’ remains the way eliminators are choosing their targets, you won’t be for a while, so I thought it something relevant to bring up. Now. I am inclined to agree that Kas’s post seems off, in exactly the same manner as the one about vote switching did, though he still hasn’t been able to defend himself so I will wait for further comment. As to Odysa’s vote, it did seem desperate, but more desperately bored with nothing happening than desperately trying to silence someone who was speaking against them. I’m thinking she is just trying to make things happen. Something I am not entirely against.- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The Infirmary bed made for a pleasant change to the barracks dank and unembellished furnishings. Once you learned to ignore the screams of anguish from fellow comrades, it really was a nice place to spend an afternoon. The only nuisance was the lack of tolerable company, but then again, that couldn't be helped when you were surrounded by the halfwits that got themselves injured in the last skirmish. Eoldren wasn’t injured of course, but he certainly wasn’t going to be telling anybody else that. It always struck him as odd that you get stuck with one lousy spear, and bam! you’ve got a first class ticket to paradise. An oddity that could be taken advantage of none the less, and so by the time the triage nurse finally made the discovery that the ‘arrow’ piercing his hand was really just a two millimetre splinter, Eoldren had managed to spend almost three hours relaxing in relative luxury. Glory spren hovered around his head for just a second, drawn by his little achievement, however with his cunning little ploy revealed, no choice remained but to head back to the garrison. … The others were all sitting around a fire in almost complete silence. ‘Those damnation spies..’ Eoldren muttered under his breath. ‘They’ll be the end of any decent conversation around here..’ “Have no fear! I am safe and well, had a little scare there for a minute, but please do not waste your prayers tonight on my behalf!” Nobody moved. It wasn't the first time such a proclamation had been made. “Yes! It takes a combination of skill, spinelessness and bold caution to stay out of harms way and caution has served me well once again!” Again nothing. With a sigh he took an empty place by the fire and resolved to stare ominously at people until they said something. Edit: Perhaps I'll stare at Reihmer for a little seeing as you want some votes in play, but mainly because I'd like some poetry.- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification

WC, Wilson and Ren, thank you for the clarification. Now. Perhaps if people wish to refrain from voting until they have more to go off, we could bring up the target for light eyes vote this cycle? It may be subject to change when people start to vote later, but I think me need to get the discussion started, as Torwel mentioned earlier, the later we leave it, the more likely there will be non-votes and or eliminator shenanigans. I am a little confused as to why some poke votes were retracted while others were not. Is it simply that they didn't need to be as the vote would be tied anyway? Or is there something else to it. It just seems odd when others were very vocal about retracting when conditions were met. Just an explanation would be nice.- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I have a few problems with this plan in that perhaps the spies wouldn't need to out themselves. By agreeing on someone that you don't suspect, that gives the spies a relatively safe target for assassination, meaning they won't need to publicly lynch the person, rather just play it cool and wait. This becomes especially dangerous if all three (I'm assuming three) spy teams think this way, meaning a guaranteed kill on that person if they are not saved. Beyond that, it may only be a short term strategy, if a few light eyed innocents are killed early, or you run out of guinea pigs. No plan is going to be perfect, and I would agree that this is the best so far (I certainly don't have a better one) just a couple of points to think on before we set a plan in action- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Eolhondras replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm quite fresh to this, but i will try to raise some relevant points. I had just a couple of minor clarification points surrounding what information is provided when someone is saved. Namely whether we are told what role saved someone i.e. surgeon or guardsman as this may make it easier to target specific targets in spy groups. For example if one had a surgeon and someone we know to be a spy is saved, we know they will likely be saved again next time around. Whereas if it is a guard they're fair game. This probably is a bit of a pipe dream, but I'd ask anyway. The other clarification is surrounding guards, where the explanation for them only being able to protect one is due to injury. In a war camp, if someone were to become incapacitated, that would be widely known. The question therefore is, will it in this case?- 611 replies

Roses are red, violets are blue, Ice cream is delicious, I'd like some more please... Damnation. No matter how hard he tried, Eoldren just couldn't compete with Reihmer's talent for words. Maybe tomorrow he though with a sigh, then kicked the dirt in front of him, erasing any trace of his embarrassing poetic exploits. Setting off towards the kitchens, (yum yum yum) Eoldren turned his mind to the recent feeling of empowerment he'd felt in the last few days. He'd been a 'vital' part of Dalinars forces for some years now, but never before had he felt important in this way... Perhaps the chef had specifically chosen him to be the taste tester for all his new dishes? Maybe his worth had finally been recognised and he was being promoted to captain of the guard? Or ever his greatest dream was coming true, that highstorms would begin raining lemonade! Time would tell. Finally he reluctantly set about surveying the other peculiar creatures inhabiting this camp. To be honest they were all pretty weird... Like that shin guy with the big furry thing? No idea what the hell that is but it looks delicious.. Then there were some horneaters, drunks, mercenaries of questionable backgrounds, but spies? Eoldren was a horrendous sleuth, but perhaps he could do some digging to pass the time. He'd have to give it some more thought.- 611 replies
