  1. Not 100% sure what I'm looking for except that I know I want a tattoo, long story short, that would involve a Glyph behind the text of my daughter's name (in a different language). I'm not entirely sure what I want the glyph to be, but I'm mainly wondering if we have a WoB or anything anywhere stating whether he'll ever explain glyphs in more detail so that I could theoretically craft my own or not.

  2. Not that I doubt you, but do you have any passages where it's used or specific books you've seen it in? I've often thought the same things when reading books like these and it's interesting to see. I'd have to guess if pressured for an answer, it would be something along the lines of "hell" not being the main name for it in that world/universe, just a slang term or a carry-over from another culture... something like Hades for us I guess, if that makes sense.

    Also, welcome!

  3. Ok first I'd like to say I'm not nearly as active as I was years ago so someone please let me know if I'm off base here and this has already been addressed or implemented and I will cease and desist.

I think a useful feature would be to tag other users in a post and have it notify them when this happens. It would be a good way to alert someone of a topic they may be interested in and might not have seen, or even to draw attention to a certain post in a long stream that may otherwise get overlooked by the intended recipient. Anyway, I just thought about it and figured I'd mention it. The site is great and I love it here and I lurk all the time. Thanks for all the hard work, guys.

  4. I was with most people; went in skeptical based on the title, began to be convinced otherwise at the start, then a slow smile broke as I neared the end and I immediately added this to my Espoused Theories because there was really no other option. Good work.

  5. Ok yes I agree, the more I think about it. So the question I'm thinking is, where do the lines point? They can't point everywhere on the metal at once or they'd be planes, not lines.

I just realized I've always assumed when you Push, it pushes on the part where the line touches. Maybe that's not even the case. Maybe the line points to the center, but you can Push or Pull on any part.... damnation that's probably it.

  6. So I just have a quick question that I haven't found an answer to yet. Maybe I've just over looked it. But I'm listening to the Alloy fo Law audio book and I'm at the fight on the top of the train and at one point, Wax Pushes off the tracks a couple times.

My question is this: To what part of the metal do the blue lines of Steel/Iron point if the metal is extremely long?

My initial instinct was to say the middle but then I though about super long beams of metal like the tracks and it made me reconsider. Something I hadn't thought of till I was typing this was maybe it just reads each different section of the bars on the tracks as a separate piece of metal, but that's still pretty long. And then you look at cars or huge girders or very long poles. For instance the spires of Kredik Shaw. Vin pulled herself up to the tips of these a few times if I remember right. So do the lines move? What do you think?

  7. Congrats on the first post! I don't personally tend to add too much to theories; I'm more of a lurker. But I did want to comment since I'm awake and reading around the forums that I really like your logic on point #2. It seems well thought out whether it turns out to be true or not. I think your parallels between Parshendi and aquatic species are a good catch either way. I'll leave the actually contributions to those more knowledgeable than I. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents for what it's worth (which I imagine is roughly $0.02).

  8. Welcome! I know there are quite a few of us here who got hooked on Brandon via WoT, myself included. I too started first with Mistborn, then went to Warbreaker, Elantris, and finally the Stormlight Archive and I plan to keep reading everything in the Cosmere. Good to have you. Hope you enjoy the forums!

  9. I've definitely always imagined the shattering of Adonalsium as the breaking of a soul and I too saw the similarities in Hoid's quote that you mentioned. I can get behind that for sure, and I do not think Hoid is Adonalsium. As far as the machanics of how that interacts with a person's spiritweb, etc. I admit I still don't know enough to make an accurate judgement, but I hope this thread fleshes out. I'd like to see it discussed.

  10. I'm sorry, but you're wrong. The book Gaz got her was Words of Radiance (the copy she got from Jasnah had sunken with the ship).

Oh goodness. You are right. My bad. I listened to the audio books recently one right after the other and I must have confused my facts. Thanks for catching it.

  11. Yes... but could it have an effect on the Breath? Could it perhaps cut that single breath, and thus end that lifeless?

That would be my main interest too; would the Breath be destroyed since that's what's animating the lifeless in the first place? I would agree that the corpse would simply be cut though. But I am taking for granted that Breath isn't the "soul" in this instance. I haven't seen a topic discussing this particular aspect of Breath so I may just be missing something. Correct me if this has been addressed.
