  1. Does he hug them and squeeze them and call them George?
  2. Um....do not poke HappyFunDeity? HappyFunDeity does not like to be poked? Seriously, I got nothin'.
  3. This is perfectly normal parental behavior. I think I'm finally in the clear, since my brother has had a kid. Mom now has a focus for her grandparenting.
  4. Now, see, that's a theology that I can grok. Pity more branches of Christianity don't teach that kind of structure; I've come across too many who firmly believed that it was their solemn duty to "save" everybody they met from Certain Doom. I know they think they mean well, but they push all the wrong buttons. That said, I still believe what I believe. I've had personal experiences that lead me to believe that at the very least, my gods are real entities of some sort. I like my gods. I respect my gods. But I don't think that I actually outright worship them, and in the end, I'll put my husband and closest friends and family first. (Yep. Slytherclaw to the very end.) But, you know, if it turns out that the Mormons are the ones who have it right, I could easily see my friends and I hanging out in the Telestial Kingdom and making up ridiculous new board and card games for eternity and having a great time of it all. And those of you who wind up in the Celestial should lobby for a new spiritual 17th Shard forum that allows access from all three Kingdoms so that we all can keep bothering each other.
  5. If I remember correctly, there is actually a Miles POV chapter in AoL where he's thinking about his compounding, and notes that it won't keep him from aging. So for whatever reason, gold doesn't do that. It might slow down the process a bit, but in the end, he'll get old just like everyone else.
  6. And convince all the teens to read Reckoners, I bet.
  7. Well, of course they are. They assume that you want what they want; you can't possibly be serious about wanting those jobs in faraway places. Clearly you're just trying to play it safe and cover your bases. But deep down, they know that you really want to be near them because faaaaaaamily! ... I'm sorry. It appears that my sarcasm function got stuck in the 'on' position.
  8. I do understand that witnessing comes from a place of caring. Unfortunately, the very same tenet that leads to witnessing is exactly why I first became disillusioned with Christianity in the first place. I cannot wrap my head around the idea that the only way to avoid going to the Very Hot Place is to believe the specific Thing. If you believe a different Thing, no matter how sincerely and devotedly, whoops, sorry, wrong Thing! Down you go. That's billions of people on this planet right now. Billions. I can't accept a universe where that is the way things are is just. And in my mind, justice is paramount for an all-encompassing deity like the Judeo-Christian god to have. If there is no justice to a deity, then what is the point in having faith in him/her? And for that matter, if my solidly atheist husband (who is, in fact, a kinder, gentler soul than I) has no chance of getting into Heaven, then why would I want to even consider going there without him? All told, it's not really surprising that I wound up Kemetic. I put a lot more stock in what a person does than in what they believe, and the ancient Egyptian gods are far more interested in what you've done with your life than whether you're doing it in their names or not.
  9. This sort of confusion is actually pretty typical for anime. Tenchi is just as inexplicable; there's an adorable half-cat, half-rabbit beastie named Ryo-Okhi who is also somehow a spaceship. Yes, she's a spaceship. Don't ask me how or why.
  10. Hmmm, let me think... 1) It's quiet. Quieter than you think it'll be, unless you have terrible neighbors. 2) Shared laundry facilities are awful. Hoard all your quarters. Start now. 3) You won't have to clean up any messes that aren't yours. The flip side of this is whenever you are sighing over a mess that needs to be cleaned up, you'll know that you have only yourself to blame. I'm sure I'll think of more stuff after I click "Post" Yep, there's one. What ThirdGen said; get a good first aid kit. Band aids are precious things. Jumper cables, flares, and other stuff for the car. Make sure you have flashlights in case of a power outage.
  11. Of course she has. From the sound of things, she's got quite the narcissistic streak; SHE wants this thing, so clearly everybody else does, too.
  12. It was a clip from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, another Lauren Faust creation. Also, it's hot in Topeeeeeka!
  13. Woot! I commemorate this event with a ridiculous Youtube Video that is tangentially related to Spokane!
  14. Actually, look up; you just got a Word of Peter that the Cosmere worlds are contained within a small star cluster. He's pretty much as close to a fresh WoB as you're going to get on the boards. And this makes sense, given that the Shards probably hopped over to the nearest inhabitable planets after the Shattering.
  15. You know, this could be just what I need to finish my rough draft of Swift as Steel. Count me in! I'm Kaymyth over there as well. I'm pretty much Kaymyth almost everywhere, really.
  16. It's Wayne, actually. I don't think the timeline on that was ever stated in AoL. This actually makes more sense; if Wax was roaming around after bounties his first few years, he's a lot more likely to have stumbled onto Wayne's trial. Weathering is a long, long way from Far Dorest.
  17. This ^^ Moreover, I have most of the markers for certain OCD behaviors. It was pretty bad when I was a kid (due to specific stress issues that don't need to be discussed here)- I remember distinctly in early elementary school knowing my times tables perfectly well. But I still HAD to count for the problems - it didn't matter that I knew it, I had to be sure. There were no shortcuts. I was removed from the problem environment, and slowly the compulsive behaviors backed off. I still have some odd compulsions, like wanting to make sure that my footsteps are even on different types of floor. It's not something that I have to do, but it's generally less stressful for me to just plan my steps than fight the compulsion. It becomes more pronounced if I'm stressed, but mostly it's just mildly annoying, and nobody but me ever knows that I do it. As an aside, can I tell you how much I hate, hate, hate the little ridge on the '5' key of most keypads? It bothers the heck out of me, having that one finger hitting a different texture than the others. It's bad enough on the regular keyboard where I need to keep touching my index fingers to those ridges to keep them "even" in feel, but entering data on a keypad drives me bonkers. THAT is mild but undiagnosed OCD. And I'm not saying that maybe Steris will start showing some markers later down the line, but I don't think we've seen nearly enough of her yet to make any sort of judgments as to what her mental quirks might be.
  18. That just makes her more self-aware than most, not necessarily in possession of a psychological diagnosis.
  19. Because after everything I've read on this board today, I think everyone needs some baby otters.
  20. Wow. That looks absolutely terrible.
  21. I briefly tried to use a (small) animated gif for my avatar. It didn't work. Maybe they just don't work on avatars.
  22. I see your XBox 360 and raise you my classic NES. Yes, it still works perfectly.
  23. You...you got an animated gif to work on the forum! WHAT WIZARDRY IS THIS?!
  24. Let's see if this works. I'm never quite sure what a YouTube link is going to wind up doing on this forum... Edit: I suppose technically it's a mashup of a mashup. It took the original KLF mashup version from back in the day and re-mashed it.
  25. ERROR finding single song. Generating list. (You're cool with a list, right? Of course you are.) General favorites: Enya - "Ebudae" A rather fantastic mash-up of the Doctor Who theme and Green Day's "On Holiday" Breaking Benjamin - "I Will Not Bow" The Goo Goo Dolls - "Iris" Frente - "Labour of Love" and "Ordinary Angels". I also love their cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle". Bastille - "Laura Palmer" and "Pompeii" Jonathan Coulton - oh so very many songs, though "Mandelbrot Set" is up near the top. Eve 6 - "Nightmare" Imagine Dragons - "Radioactive" & "Demons" Evanescence - "Bring Me To Life" & "Listen to the Rain" among others Things that never fail to make me smile when they pop up my playlist: Owl City - "Fireflies" Frente - "Accidentally Kelly Street" (quite possibly the most cheerful song on the planet) Imagine Dragons - "On Top of the World" Walk the Moon - "Shut Up and Dance" Stuff I've recently discovered: Lindsey Sterling. Pretty much all of it. Though Roundtable Rivals has one of the more spectacularly ridiculous yet awesome music videos I've ever seen. Katy Perry - "Roar" don't judge me "Shake it Off" again with the judging - Though I actually prefer the Walk Off the Earth cover to the Taylor Swift original.
