For clarification about the WOR leatherbound campaignis Backerkit basically Kickstarter? Brandon’s announcement and post are specifically stating the Words of Radiance anniversary launch is “entirely on BackerKit”.  For those of us who aren’t that Kickstarter/Backerkit savvy, is there a distinction we need to be aware of?

Backerkit is essentially a tool/service that's associated with, but not officially part of, Kickstarter.

I suspect what's going on here is that Brandon is skipping a step -- he and his team know there's not going to be an issue with hitting sales goals, so there's no need to use the crowdfunding piece of the platform. All they need is to sort people into their swag levels, which Backerkit can do on its own.

(ETA: I forget how the forums don't nest posts, and missed that Argent already answered this. Ope. xD)

  2. Curiously, it appears that some of the physical books are still available on Amazon (through Crafty's own storefront). I just ordered the one supplement (besides the new Nobles one) that I'm missing.

They seem to be saying in the comments that yes, their license is expiring (though there's some fuzzy room for interpretation on applying that response). But yes, they do intend to do a print run of the Nobles book, so I hold onto the hope that I'll be able to nab the entire run in physical form.

Just want to make it clear I think you did a good job! I just thought I would add my two sense about maybe adding is a discussion break in the middle of the plot synopsis. I actually really liked and appreciated  the thorough recap, I just lost stamina haha

It's a good idea in theory, but difficult to put into practice due to several factors. Still, we're putting in chapter skips, so that'll make it easier for watchers to bounce around as they like.

Nice first episode! Only thing might need tweaking was the synopsis length. I liked it and the jokes were great, but it might need to be broken down into more chunks in some way? It was a tad long and I think I needed some breaks. Maybe half the book discuss, then second half discuss? It was hard for me to pay attention to the synopsis for so long and something to break up the book might help (especially when you get to longer books)

I condensed them as much as I could while still covering the plot. xD

But yeah, length is an issue, and while we've already recorded all of Mistborn Era 1, Era 2, and SH, we do have some ideas to put into play for when we get into Stormlight. (We'll start putting chapters into future episodes so people can skip if they want.)

Stormlight way too long for recaps. Must sum up.

I've just re-read the relevant chapter (HoA 81) and the situation looks like this:

    A. Elend has wrongly assumed that the Mistafallen were a mix of different Mistings, so he didn't test them - just sent them away

    B. Demoux could only get a small selection of metals after leaving Luthadel, so he couldn't test the Misfallen for all potential Mistings

The other piece of this is that when Elend had earlier tested the rest of the army (the "milder" Mistfallen), he was mostly focused on finding pewter, iron, and steel Allomancers - the ones most useful in a fight. By far that wouldn't cover all of them, but he reasonably expected Demoux's group to have some of those.

  6. Well this is what happens when an Australian talks about US geography. :P

How can the largest city not be the capital?

Because the States are weird. :)

Sure, there are some states where the capital is the largest city, but for many it's not.  Usually capitals are placed near-ish the center of the state.  Lots were established back when overland travel was a multi-day thing, so having the capital in the middle of the state kept it from putting undue burden on state legislators to come from their hometowns to the capitals for lawmaking sessions.

Take Missouri:  the capital is Jefferson City, located just south of center.  But the St. Louis and Kansas City metro areas are much, much larger.  They grew more rapidly for having easy access to the commerce available by being next to major rivers, but they're on either side of the state, making the both rather inconvenient for a capital placement.

  7. I don't think he's talking about orchestras, those would traditionally have brass.  He's more talking about a brass band (as in a band exclusively made of brass instruments) which are a more "modern" thing.

That would make more sense.  Scadrial hasn't really had much in the way of war in the last 300 years, so they sort of missed out on the militarized marching bands that launched bandmasters like John Philip Sousa.

  8. Huh.  OK, I'm putting on my music nerd hat here, but should it really be that odd to have brass added into an orchestra ensemble?  Brass instruments are *old*; most major classical symphonies utilize both brass and woodwinds for their different timbres.  It just seems strange, knowing that Scadrial's basic societal and cultural development is supposed to roughly parallel ours, that brass would be such a new addition.

Or maybe Wax is just used to hearing things like string quartets at parties and I'm just overthinking this.  :)
