  1. I keep coming back to this to snicker over iSteve.
  2. I don't care about the gender of an author. I enjoy Patricia Briggs and Katharine Kerr, but can't stand Katherine Kurtz as she's the George R.R. Martin of women writers in the sheer number of characters she kills off. Personally, I liked Twilight, and I liked the last book in the series. They're not great literature, but they were fun reads, albeit with a few pretty goofy (sparkly) parts. I don't know that I'd consider them fantasy, or even urban fantasy, though. They're really just romance books in an urban fantasy environment. I wonder if that crossing of genres isn't part of what garners the series so much hate. People copy what's been popular, though, so I'm not surprised to hear that people are now trying to duplicate her success. I like BS and similar writers who aren't too dark but have well developed worlds. I don't like my escapist fiction to give me nightmares (Thanks, George R. R.), and I like it complex enough so that I can't figure out everything that's going to happen by chapter 2. If it's a good story, it could be written by purple hermaphroditic aliens for all I care.
  3. I write homeschooling curricula. I have a reading program, a grammar and writing program, a curriculum guide/schedule, and miscellaneous other things. I'm also editing my husband's science adventures stories, and I homeschool my five children. And when BS releases a new book, I drop everything and read non-stop for two days.
  4. I converted my entire household, at least the ones who can read. It's a pretty geeky household, though, so my job was not difficult.
  5. Good. A pun is a terrible thing to waste...
  6. Thanks, y'all. Queen Elsa, my favorite Brandon Sanderson book is definitely The Way of Kings. I think WoK is a brilliant beginning to the series. It doesn't hurt that it's also my preferred brand of fantasy; I found him via WoT, so obviously, I have a thing about series with10+ books with a thousand pages each. :-) I also love The Emperor's Soul, Legion, and Elantris, probably in that order. I'll stop now before I have most of them listed. Voidus, thank you. That's very sweet, but I'm low-carb. I'd hate to spike my blood sugar. LeftVash, I have enjoyed his other YA books. I probably would have already read them if they were available as ebooks. :-) Right now, I do most of my reading at night on my tablet with the light off. We do have all of them in the house, though. Two of my sons have read all of them, and I heard lots of laughter, and quotes, while they were reading. I'm looking forward to reading them when I have a bit more time to read during daylight hours.
  7. Hey, y'all. I started reading The Wheel of Time back when there were about five books out, and like many, I heard about Brandon Sanderson after RJ's death. I started reading his works to check him out before his WoT books were released, and I quickly became a fan of his as well, bringing my family along with me. I've read all of his published books except for Alcatraz, Firstborn, and the new stories in the anthologies in which he's included. I've also read White Sand. It's unlikely that I will post often, but after reading a few of the WoT threads, I decided to start an account so I'll have the ability to respond if I want. None of my family members have finished it yet, so I've had no one to discuss the ending with!
