  1. We're also overlooking some of Dalinar's struggles outside of the book. What drove him to go to the nightwatcher and forget his wife? Was that the right choice? How would Gavilar have cared for his son? How do you make a king a better man without DOING it all for him? I believe he is on a level field with Kaladan. Think about how much he has had to stand up to, having his feet cut out of under him because he's trying to work with people, not dominate them. He is ridiculed for his visions, something no one has really turned around to him to say, "You're right, Dalinar, we were wrong about you." There are layers of responsibility on him that don't rest on Kaladan, or at least, didn't, until they both became Knights Radiant. Keep in mind that Dalinar also listened to Kaladan and brought out the truth from Amaram in public, discrediting him. So, I identify with Kaladan better, because he's younger and struggles with the small things. But Dalinar struggles with boulders while Kaladan is juggling his guilt and depression. Dalinar's journey isn't as heroic within the books, but as a model of a hero, he's neck and neck with Kaladan, in my opinion.
  2. @almost_awakened Welcome aboard. Though you've probably "been" here longer then I have. It's hard to read through the forums and not wreck the surprise in the plot. I'm managing to dodge ruining the plot for The Mistborn Trilogy, but I guess I should read it soon. Glad you're here!
  3. The point of the KR is to balance each other out. 1 vs 1, each could have incredibly inventive ways of beating the other. Adhesion could be used to stick multiple objects/people to a stone that is sent zipping across a battlefield. Or gluing two objects together around an opponent that couldn't be surge bound. By the same token, every surge would have its own "inventive" positive side. It would depend most on who was fighting who. Personally, I am a fan of the Windrunners & Skybreakers. Currently (subject to change on further reading/re-reading) I choose windrunners. We know the most about them in action through Kaladin, who has kicked butt, repeatedly, against every opponent.
  4. @Awesomeness Summoned I was surprised back when I found out that Brandon was picked to complete the WOT series. I didn't know until well after the fact. It was terrific for his career and he was definitely the right pick for it. Do you know if Robert's wife looked at anyone else to complete it, or just Brandon? @Curiosity it's nice to know coffee roasters aren't just a big company thing. It's good to be here. How do you roast your coffee? I'm "small beans" in a skillet over a campfire/stovetop. *Moves Mistborn to next on personal reading list*
  5. Awesomeness Summoned, Ashiok–close enough. I'm definitely in it for the long haul, so I've got them on my reading list. The difference in plot and original magic sounds awesome. How long have you been a fan?
  6. Haha, amusing reference, @kobold king. I guess there will always be one. Still, thanks for saying hello. I've been looking over the Cosmere theories. They look incredibly in depth, I've only scratched the surface. It reminds me of reading through The Silmarillion years ago. All that stuff that you missed in the book on the first read through, but got on the second. Ashiok, what did you think of The Mistborn Trilogy? I'll check out the guild and cosmere forums when I've got some time. Looking forward to it!
  7. In order: Portion of Warbreaker (Never finished because I got "Way of Kings" Way of Kings Elantris Words of Radiance You?
  8. It's great to finally have an account here so I can get to know all of you. I've been following Brandon Sanderson's work for just over a year now, so I'm pretty new to him. But he's an exceptional writer and his books are epic. About me? I own an airstream, those silver bullets you see towed down the road every now and then. We're (my ife and I) remodeling the interior and it's a ton of work! Currently, I am a computer technician. Personally, I believe running is a terrific way to listen to "Writing Excuses", though my wife disagrees. I love coffee. Passionately enough to roast my own. Sumatra single blend anyone? Shoot me a message if you want to know, well, anything about me. I'm looking forward to talking with everyone here!
