  1. Hello all, I hope to join the rp soon and TwiLyght instructed me to post me draft here so I can receive input from you guys. Well here he is: ------------------------------------ Epic Name: The Alchemist Primary Power: Reincarnation. Upon death, Nikolai reforms in a random location with a completely new body. He retains all of his memories upon waking. A new body’s appearance, gender and apparent age seem completely random with each new form having it’s own strengths, weaknesses and quirks. Secondary Power: Golden Touch. With varying amounts of concentration and energy expenditure Nikolai can transmute any solid substance to pure gold. The larger the object, the more concentration, time and energy are required to transmute it. The process is by no means instantaneous. Example: an object the size of a small marble would take a few minutes and cause him to feel a bit peckish, whereas something like a life-size statue would take a good number of hours and leave him faint, barely able to stand afterward. Weakness(es): Betrayal of a beloved woman. During his early years he was befriended by and fell in love with a young woman. In reality she was a con artist, and he her mark. Him being a insecure and naive fellow it took little time before she had insinuated herself in his heart, mind and life. When she left him, bank accounts emptied (clearing him of his modest inheritance) and heart-broken something inside him just...snapped. He wandered the streets for years, his mental state slowly deteriorating until he was hearing voices. Penniless and broken he eventually tried to end his life. A hotel maid walked in on his attempt however, and he was rushed to the hospital. Once he recovered, he was deemed mentally unstable, a risk to himself and others and so was placed in a mental health facility. There he remained for 3 years until the arrival of Calamity and the dawn of the Epics. The star’s crimson glow transformed him that night, as it did countless others. He eventually wandered free after the facility was abandoned in the wake of Epic attacks. A short time later he was killed for the first time, cut down by an Epic named Snapshot. He awoke some time later, miles away with a brand new body. With this death came clarity. With the help of the voices in his head he eventually came to fully realize the extent of his abilities. He traveled aimlessly for about a year, selling little bits of his gold, before eventually making his way to the war-torn state of Oregon. Appearance(current): -Eyes: Dark brown, wears glasses(for nearsightedness) -Skin tone: Caucasian, lightly tanned -Hair: light wavy sandy brown -Build: Tall but thin. -Gender: Male -Apparent age: mid 20’s -Clothing: Light grey trench coat, purple button-down shirt, bright orange bowtie, black jeans and hiking shoes. -Possessions: clothing(as noted above), revolver, mobile and worn paperback copy of Name of the Wind Name: Nikolai Flement Age: 22 Gender: Male SO: Straight Home City: Minneapolis Interests: Books, ginger ale and Epics.
  2. What happened to the LoC?
  3. Talanic you hit the nailspren on the head with your second paragraph.
  4. Kurkistan: -Sorry I must not have been clear: no magical healing. No “poofing”. So yes, you’d have to remove your arm yourself. -As to precision, it varies. -Maybe? It might end up like that. -The cost isn’t really the focus. It’s the sense of loss the person feels. There isn’t any entity that oversees the sacrifice so it’s not a bartering system or anything. -The thing to be sacrificed generally is dearly held. No you can’t force someone to do it. Hardly anyone knows about it. -Fine grained?? People don’t levitate boulders or rocks with this magic system. -As for the amount of fickleness, the “gift” received for the sacrifice is generally soured by something. ex: Loss-arm, Desired effect-wealth, Effect-you find a wallet with a ton of money in it on the street. -Like I said before, there is no being making judgments on how you use the power. That said, can you think of a reason why intent should matter? Talanic: No there is no being. Edgedancer: -The magic is subtle. So one side would simply pull through and prevail. No fire raining down. -The first, there really isn’t a ritual. -Willingness is needed for the Loss to translate into Power. So no someone couldn’t force you. Truthwatcher Ferring: -The magic does not come from an intelligent being, unless you count the person making the sacrifice. In the world the ancients knew of the magic, but over the centuries knowledge of it was hidden or destroyed by the new church/religion that was founded. So the few who know of it either were informed by a family member, discovered an ancient text, or gleaned it from a practitioner of the Old traditions.
  5. First quote: You have to cause the loss yourself. No magical healing. Everyone has the potential, just very few know about it. Well it generally has to be something that's genuinely hard for you to give up and does tend to be irreversible. If you give up something, it's gone. It has to be a truly jarring sacrifice. You can give up abstract things like your love for someone, or your empathy(although as of yet I'm unsure as of how you would go about sacrificing those sort of things). Feel free to keep piling on the questions. Second quote: Like I said very few people know about the magic, so it being used in armies as a tactic to winning wars regularly isn't really viable. The sacrifice needs to be made when you want to alter reality. Mass is conserved. No "poofing" happens. Yes to grand gestures, nay on everyday. In order to sacrifice your celibacy would probably require self-castration or something similar. As for your last question: the power you obtain is equal to the amount of loss you feel. So no, on a desert island it probably wouldn't be worth much. Also a note: The magic system in my world is fickle. Imagine genie wishes in some settings and how they can backfire. Like that.
  6. Hmm well essentially people can only gain magical powers by sacrificing something. The more something means to the person the more Power it generates. Example: a person killing a loved one in order to stop a plague, or a man cutting off a limb to tip the tide of a battle for his nations side. Sorry I'm really bad at explaining. I could probably answer specific questions though.
  7. Thanks! Basically my system revolves around the idea of Power gained through Loss.
  8. Basically he helped me come up with a basis for a magic system. But in all honesty it's just a baby compared to what it could be. So I'm searching for fellow readers/writers/Brandon fans to help me pull it out of its nebulous form and be a magic system I can be proud of. Also if I succeed and it makes it into a published book I will of course credit those who have helped me(: So here goes.
  9. *face darkens, looks down* "Yes indeed I once was a Feathertip. But I have since become Featherless. While I will always respect and revere the lady Feather, if my help is ever needed she can of course call upon me, but I no longer feel my place is among the Featherblades. My loyalty now belongs to the Outsider and my own conscience." *bows*
  10. "It's quite alright Joe. What do you mean deserted? Hmm all this talk is making me thirsty." *Blinks over to a cooler full of iced lemonade, fills his flask*
  11. *sighs* "Good."
  12. "Oh? The Queen is not a pony. And she is important."
  13. "Thank you princess Delightful, Vash." *looks at Kobold King, squints* "Ponies?"
  14. *strokes his chin* "Interesting..."
  15. "Splendid. Tell me, do you hold duels here?"
  16. *grins widely* "Thank you Your Grace!"
  17. He smiles. "Maybe I could set up my gyro stand? I LOVE gyros."
  18. *kisses the Queen's hand* "Thank you for the warm welcome your majesty. Indeed, thank you all. It's good to be back." *eyes light up at the mention of a party* "Ooooh! Fun. What sort of food and drink will be present?"
  19. I noticed. Elsa's rule is as strong as ever eh?
  20. A cloaked figure observes the Great Hall from a support beam high above. Raising their hand they vanish and reappear in the middle of the floor. With a flourish they throw back their hood, revealing pointed ears, blonde hair and a sly, boyish grin. "Well kiddies I'm back. And by the Outsider am I excited to be here."
  21. Thanks. But do u know how to delete your account?
  22. Sorry. Edit: Deleting account. Edit 2: Does anyone know how to delete ur account?
  23. I don't know. That was the plan.
