  1. Back to Funtimes, rocking her four differently-colored shoes.

    1. Kobold King

      Kobold King

Don't deny it. We're all jealous of those shoes.

  2. Should I hide it and have the real mail-mi repost after we swap profiles again?
  3. The real mail-mi wrote it.
  4. First question: Does the date you're posting this have anything to do with the content?
  5. In Firefight, Regalia asks David if he's ever heard of the Rending, that special time in an Epic's life when they go briefly insane and murder all their friends. The name is taken from the verb rend, which is a little-used synonym for the verb tear. Which makes sense—an Epic is being torn from their previous lives and sense of morality, and the word rending is appropriately ominous enough to convey what is happening. However, according to my good friend Thesaurus.com, rend is not the only synonym Sanderson could have used. With one small difference in word choice, Regalia could have told David about…. The Cracking ("Release the Cracking!") The Division (fourth-grade students scream in terror) The Plucking (chickens beware) The Scratching (new Epics are itching for murder) The Evulsion (not conjuring pleasant images here) The Shredding (this probably happened to the Epic Sk8er Boi) The Extraction (of justice!) The Snatching (because new Epics just escaped from a D-list horror flick?) and, my personal favorite…. The Frazzlement
  6. This means I can finally realize my dream of shipping Lightwards with Funtimes AND Möbius!
  7. The real mail-mi uses a single dash, but the site wouldn't let me use his exact name, so I used two dashes.
  8. I never thought I'd actually have to pay attention in math.

    1. Chaos

      Chaos

Yep, it definitely gets that way ;)

  9. I love the beach, but the one I'm most familiar with is the Oregon coast. Warm in the summer--sometimes. Any other day, it's cold and windy, with sharp rocks that can only be rivaled by those on the Washington coast. The Washington beaches aren't a matter of enjoyment so much as survival. And when you've spent a weekend there, you can brag to all the other states. "Yeah, I went for a walk along the beach...in Washington."
  10. The link to subscribe to his newsletter should be in the menu at the top of the page click on or hover your mouse over the one that says "About Brandon," and you'll see a link that says "Newsletter Signup."
  11. Confusing new players. Level: Expert. You should've seen the one December it dropped down to 30F here. I'm walking outside in my skirt and sweater while everyone else is shivering next to their space heaters and wondering if I have a secret superpower. Speaking as someone from Washington state, I can say with confidence that Arizonans have no idea how to cope with the cold. (Though in fairness, I'm a total baby about the heat. I can't spend more than a few minutes outside without whimpering, while Arizonans walk through it like it's no problem at all. And don't even get me started on hiking.)
  12. Can that be our new name for Australia? Yikes. It's always in the triple digits during summers here--115 is considered normal--and I couldn't imagine not having AC.
  13. You didn't make her mad yet? No AC? How do you LIVE? Great Noodly One, I couldn't cope here without AC; I barely made it through one fall when I had to drive the car with no AC. How hot is it there?
  14. If I told you Funtimes dug the hole, you could rest easy in the knowledge that there would be cake at the bottom of the hole. Unless you made her mad. Then there'd just be bear traps. Here in Arizona, you're okay as long as you don't spend a lot of time outside. If you do...well, let's just say snakes and scorpions aren't going to kill you as quickly as the sun will.
  15. Almost anything involving Obliteration is going to be traumatic. But he was wary of it when he first came to Babilar, so it could be argued that Obliteration just intensified an existing fear. Though I doubt Calamity could have granted that request if David hadn't been afraid of water. The rest of his fears were too mild (fear of being called a nerd) or too generalized (fear of losing a fight) to qualify as Epic fears, I think. I wish we knew more about it. It's a fascinsting setup in general, and one of the most unique takes on the superhero genre I've ever seen.
  16. Unless there's a Deus Ex Machina-inator hiding in the castle, Prof's arrival would almost certainly mean the end of the book. Or the Reckoners, at the very least. He's more powerful (and corrupt) than Steelheart; they have no resources and no idea what his weakness is. If Prof shows up, the rest of the book would have to be about Prof being corrupt because Megan is the only one with a chance of survival.
  17. Nothing so drastic. Just the friendly forum ninja, asking you to post for Backtrack because reasons.
  18. Neither I or Kobold got to read the first three chapters of Firefight until it was published.
  19. A spoiler board already. SO IT BEGINS As for the actual excerpt:
  20. Totally fine. I know how it feels, being left out of the limited release stuff (first three chapters of Firefight only released at SDCC, anyone? ) so I can relate. Also, was Backtrack going to melt into a little puddle of tears soon?
  21. Meh, potato tomato. I'd actually forgotten about that, but it's seriously impressive.
  22. I think it more triggers a fear that Calamity latches onto. So far, every Epic has had some tragic or traumatic experience that caused their root fear--except for David, whose fear of water was more like a phobia. But I think he was a special case, due to Regalia's mention of a request, so I don't think we can consider him as a proper example.
  23. I have no problem respecting his wishes--the fact he's so reasonable about everything else makes me want to respect them all the more. If an author is so cool with fanfic that he has a section for it on his website, in an environment where some authors throw a hissy fit at the merest suggestion of it, then it goes to show he respects his fans. The least we can do is respect his in return.
