I think it'll be the very beginning of a redemption arc at best. The guy's head is so far up his rear end that he hasn't seen the light in months, and Brandon has always been realistic about how difficult it is for people to realize they need to change. If he does get a redemption arc, I think it'll be more like Venli's—715 pages of denial, 300 pages of growth and backsliding, and then 100 pages of awesomeness.
Except with him, it'll be 800 pages of slowly realizing where his head is, 400 pages of wondering why everyone doesn't live the way he does and if it's truly wrong to keep one's head in one's rear, and then finally, on page 1372, a single glorious breath of fresh air right before Kaladin punches him in the stomach.

Well, in one video I saw (which I cannot for the life of me find right now) wearing an "I Heart Moash" sign around one's neck is what allows the protagonist to become Invested.
SpoilerThe sign leads to the protagonist being beaten senseless by a room full of Cosmere fans, which is the sort of trauma that leads to either Snapping or a spren bond. Not quite a win-win, but if it works, it works.

SpoilerPOV: you've just told Moash he should feel bad about one of his 18,000,000,000 atrocities, and he's about to hit back with the finest (and only) insult he knows
If anyone wants to defeat Moash, all they have to do is prevent him from deflecting blame for 0.032 seconds. It will destroy him.

Basically, a bunch of people lost their money (up to and including their life savings) when the housing bubble burst in 2008, and Lehman Brothers was deeply involved and not even sorry.

oh, I didn't see that the first time. I have no idea what it's referencing. I meant the fact that gru is broke in the first movie, that's one of that actual problems in that movie
So broke, he has to beg

I've kept up okay, but I probably should've at least reread Oathbringer before picking up Rhythm of War.

I fully blame Brandon for that, the Willshaper book was secretly a Kaladin and Navani book
(I like them both, but I wanted my Willshapers!)
The long delay in her actually testing her powers is part of her character development. She's a character who goes from selfishness to self-preservation to selflessness, and those 715 pages of farting around are necessary to show how much she had to overcome in order to become what she was meant to be. I just used the term "farting around" for comedic effect.
2 hours ago, JohnnyKaizen said:Look, she accidentally started a rebellion (I say accidentally because the rebellion she started wasn't really the one she was planning) that's leading to a strengthening of the Listeners. Is it her fault if she's more like Mr. Magoo than James Bond with her espionage? I mean, yes, but still.
She's well on her way to becoming awesome. And I've enjoyed seeing her journey from awful to awesome. Her Mr. Magoo phase makes her more relatable.

And yes, I did try to find a stock photo of a bald person comforting someone to make the meme book-accurate, but instead I found a Clickhole listicle of "Photos of Frowning Bald Men [That] Are A Sobering Reminder That Sometimes Bald Men Are Sad," so I figured book accuracy was not meant to be.

Well, now that you mention it, I finally got around to reading RoW. A couple years late, but I got around to it.

Anywho, I'm not even done with the prologue, but it's memein' time.

Even the ones he shouldn't.

It's a pattern of
Spoilercharacters going by their titles and what they mean to the world around them (as far as I know from what I've read—I still need to read Tress and Sunlit Man) and sometimes writers use fiction as a means to work out things they're going through in their lives,
which could mean it's foreshadowing for
SpoilerBrandon officially changing his name to Branderbot: Speedwriter 9000.

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)
Lift and Hoid disagree on bacon.
Questioner (paraphrased)
Is this because food on Roshar is usually either Spicy (male) or Sweet (female), so salty bacon would just taste wrong to Lift?
Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)
She just doesn't like the taste, please don't think too much into it.
Then just replace "bacon" with "sausage links" or something. Point is, I think if Lift went to a modern restaurant where it doesn't take forty days and forty nights for the staff to prepare a feast for a crowd, she'd do exactly what Ron did.

Major spoilers for Yumi and the Nightmare Painter ahead.
SpoilerFirst off, I've got to say the character development in this story is a real bait-and-switch in the best way possible.
SpoilerWhat I mean by that is that there's a huge contrast between how Hoid depicts Painter in early chapters….
….and how Yumi comes across at the midpoint….
….with how they both actually are.
This marks the second time I've thought Sanderson was going to use one of my least favorite tropes and turned out to be completely wrong.
You know who else was completely wrong? Torish scholars.
Spoiler
Not the best plan there, guys.
Yumi, however, was right about the power of creation. Like, more right than should have been possible.
Spoiler
Ah, well. It's a nice ending regardless. I liked the bittersweet one I thought we were going to get, but it's still a nice ending.
Turns out, though, that the real losers in this story are the corporations in Kilahito.
Spoiler
I mean, yes, it seems like the Dreamwatch was little more than an excuse for spoiled rich kids to sit on their butts all day. But I'm sure some of them would want to "redeem themselves" by doing everything wrong in their new jobs as CFOs or board members or whatever other positions allowed them to ruin the rank-and-file's lives.
Overall, an excellent story. Highly recommend.

Well okay, Debbie Downer, you do you.

Well, I finished Frugal Wizard, and let me tell you, it went in a different direction than I'd thought. A much better direction.
Spoiler
Poor John has so much self-loathing that it seemed like the narrative would back up his assumption about Ryan, but it did not. And I'm happy to report that….
I still need to read the other Secret Projects, but I did enjoy that one.
Still, I'm going to assume that Ryan was fired and Jen was arrested shortly after they returned to Seattle, because that thought sparks joy.

Keep going. You might just be one of the people that like this book.
Sorry if that seemed like a random upvote, but your name is just so amusing I had to do something to show my appreciation.
And I mean, I'm already the weirdo who got into Brandon's writing because I liked Reckoners so much, so maybe. But right now the only thing that can save this book for me is
Spoilersomeone inventing TV and making Yazad the Mister Rogers of Medieval Europe.
Seriously, that guy is awesome.

Well, something happened last night, and my enjoyment of Frugal Wizard took a dive. Maybe a temporary one, but a dive.
Big spoilers ahead.
Spoiler
Yep. Ryan was introduced. And let me tell you, he didn't make the best impression on me. I know I'm probably reading against the grain here, but the level of this guy's resentment toward John makes it hard for me to see his motives as pure.
No textual evidence for this so far, but it seems plausible.
Like dude, did Ryan even offer to help when his supposed "best friend since childhood" was sleeping in a literal gutter? In Seattle? The rainiest city in the United States?
But it's okay, because we already know what really encourages people like John to turn their lives around.
Huh. Know what, maybe they should just get Yazad to talk to Ulric. I give the cartel leader twenty minutes before he starts sobbing over all the good he could've been doing.

Whoa. I've seen some of your stuff from ages ago on the shard, back before I was around, but I never expected to interact with you.
Also, I am very happy to see love for Frugal Wizard. Everyone hates on it when it was my favorite of the SPs
Ha. I feel like a celebrity.
And seriously? I'm really enjoying it. I think I'm approaching the Sanderson Avalanche, and I have no complaints thus far. It's different from what Brandon usually does, but it's funny, quirky, and has a fair bit of depth to it. 'Tis a good yarn, in my humble opinion.
