*Shadows of Self Spoilers* Anyone Else Think Harmony is Messed up?
Pathfinder replied to mattig89ch's topic in Mistborn
That is exactly why Vin and Elend used Electrum in the last book of the original trilogy. It was the poor man's counter to atium because of the feedback loop. -
*Shadows of Self Spoilers* Anyone Else Think Harmony is Messed up?
Pathfinder replied to mattig89ch's topic in Mistborn
I do not think he was necessarily speaking about them with reverence. He named each of them, and then continued on to say how we are all puppets and they all move us. In my mind at least, if i was devoted to my religion, I do not feel I would view myself as a puppet of my deity. Maybe say it guides us, or moves in mysterious ways, but saying I am a puppet certainly carries a negative connotation. -
Oh your question is to see if he got the scars, I misunderstood that the question was whether or not he was going there for the atium. My bad!

There's not nearly enough salt about [Secret History Spoilers]
Pathfinder replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Mistborn
It is not silly at all. As per my previous post, the information Kelsier had when he first arrived on the cognitive plain was a god, a god mind you that Kelsier recognizes as a god, tells him it is the step before passing to the Beyond. A god that also tells him Mare has traveled there. And finally Kelsier sees other spirits depart before him, with contented, peaceful, and happy looks on their faces. When Kelsier entered the cognitive realm he had zero information to draw upon from himself as to what the cognitive realm is, and what the Beyond is. All he had was what he experienced, and what I just named is what he experienced before he turned to Fuzz and told him he wanted to figure out how to stay. At no point prior to his decision to remain in the cognitive realm in the chain of those events, was Kelsier provided any information to lead him to believe that what lied in the Beyond was uncertain. All that information came after he had already decided not to leave. He went from being an "athiest" to having god (as he knows it) walk up and tell him to go. I have not commented because everyone has been making great points and opinions on how they feel Kelsier as a character is, and why he may have chosen to stick around but that is one point I will not bend on as it is literal fact in the book quoted. He could have stayed due to hubris, through worry for his friends, natural distrust, defiance towards authority figures, and so on, but not because others told him they didn't know what is on the other side. That did not happen till later. Sorry if that comes off confrontational, that is why I use bold so it hopefully does not sound like I am shouting or angry, but just for emphasis. -
The only hemalurgic creation we see that reuses spikes to create new hemalurgic creations are koloss, and that doesn't go as planned as the subsequent generations are altered due to the already existing torn pieces of souls in the spike. Koloss are brute forces not intended for higher thinking. Their only purpose is to kill and be good at killing. Kandra and Inquisitors are entirely different matters. We have never seen on screen or mentioned off screen a kandra or inquisitor created with used hemalurgic spikes. So I believe based on the quotes from Shadows of Self, and Bands of Mourning that you could not use blessings already keyed to a kandra to make a brand new kandra from an existing mistwraith without there being some issues at the very least.

Shadows of Self dust jacket synopsis--anyone else put off?
Pathfinder replied to Serity's topic in Mistborn
Expanding on this, one day I was showing my fiance the hardcover signed books I got from Sanderson as she is considering giving reading them a shot since I love these books so much. Personally i always read ebooks since I read constantly, and that helps me to always have a book on hand, but I have been collecting the hardcovers for just coolness factor. What I realized as I read the descriptions on each of them with her, is I didn't like a single one. I even feel had I never read a Sanderson book before, and read such a description, I would probably have put the books back on the shelf. This surprises me considering how much I love all of Sanderson's books. Has this happened to anyone else? Again for reference, I am speaking of specifically the hardcover english versions -
there is a more recent WoB that says it will also help you make intuitive leaps. Now I am not saying that will necessarily make you smarter, but you may be able to come up with ideas you might not have without it.

What about the Voidspren and Renarin
Pathfinder replied to Mileswasbestcharacter's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is more of a nitpick, but the dustbringers were originally called releasers, though by blowing stuff up, it could be say they are releasing it lol.- 68 replies

Well there is the typical trope of the honorable villian, whether or not I could see that as an actual reality I am not sure.
-
Your original question might be better, because I believe (don't quote me on this though), that there is a WoB that the pits of Hathsin since the ascension are no more. Now when I say that, as we see in the Wax and Wayne series, Wax does walk through the pits, but they aren't the atium producers they were, and any geodes that were there, had been shattered by Kelsier before he "died". But I am bad at searching for WoB, so I could be remembering incorrectly.

What about the Voidspren and Renarin
Pathfinder replied to Mileswasbestcharacter's topic in Stormlight Archive
And now I am picturing Glys taking various forms of men and women, exaggerating various "portions" to check if "is that how those things work?" to which Renarin gets mortified and is convinced he is a voidbringer to be so cursed with such a spren lolol- 68 replies

I could have sworn there was WoB that stated birth place was a biggie with soulstamping too. Guess I was wrong.

Because there is another part that talks about interchanging blessings. That they are personal to the kandra when the kandra is created using the blessing, and that the only reason Tensoon was able to take in Oresuers was because they were in addition to his own. So basically I am given to understand once you use a Kandra blessing to turn a mistwraith into a kandra, lets call him kenny, then once kenny dies, those blessings are still kenny. its not like using brand new fresh spikes. Same kind of stands with koloss. The reason Human began acting the way he did, was because the koloss kept reusing spikes, and thereby getting more and more "human" soulishness in there.

I do not think his point is that an Arelon would become an Elantrian and forger. I think he was saying that even if you are ethnically Arelon, if you are born in maipon you could become a forger. Galladon is semi the exception due to Duladel's nearness to Arelon and I think how it used to be considered part of it (trying to recall, been awhile since I read Elantris)

Can I ask why do you think that wasn't Marsh at the end of AoL? Just curious to understand your perspective better.

What about the Voidspren and Renarin

The WoB we are referencing has Brandon state that the spren do not have a sex. They do however identify as one gender or the other.- 68 replies

[Secret Histories Spoilers] Fused Hemalurgical Spikes
Pathfinder replied to Rlain's topic in Mistborn
So to make sure I understand you, you are taking lets say 5 spikes, each already charged with an ability. You then heat them enough so they are malleable, and entwine them all together. You then take that one uber spike, and jam it into a person, and are wondering if that person would get all the abilities with that spike and it still count as one? if that is your premise, then my gut tells me no. Since hemalurgy is based on intent and bind points, I do not believe you would get multiple powers from driving multiple spikes into one spot into the recipient. But I am far from the authority on the matter. I believe Voidus is the current holder of that mantle lol -
Best guess is that you can't view the entire quote? Zmann quoted 11 lines, of which is Steris saying it is lemon flavored. Champagne does have a fruity taste, but I believe that comparison is more to the fact that it is carbonated, and this is the advent of the first soft drink, ie carbonated beverage that is not alcoholic. If I am misreading your post I apologize in advance. edit: ninjaed!

Marasi, the Trap: where do you store your metal?
Pathfinder replied to Pechvarry's topic in Mistborn
Ahhhh gotcha. That was a misread on my part. Sorry! -
Marasi, the Trap: where do you store your metal?
Pathfinder replied to Pechvarry's topic in Mistborn
Been awhile since I have had friends with tongue piercings, but how can you unscrew a portion of a piercing while it is pierced in your tongue with your tongue? Unless your ancestor is a snake, or your Gene Simmons, I have no idea how that would be managed lol. -
This is specifically mentioned in bands of mourning. I have referenced the page and the quote below: page 37 "you are misunderstanding the nature of these spikes" VenDell all but sputtered. "First, we do not have kandra Blessings lying around. The earrings you mention are crafted from old Inquisitor spikes, and have barely any potency to them. One might have been good enough for Lord Waxillium's little stunt six months ago, but they would hardly be enough to restore a kandra" "Yeah" MeLaan said "If that worked, we'd have already used all those spikes to make new children. We can't; a kandra Blessing must be created very specifically."

What about the Voidspren and Renarin
Pathfinder replied to Mileswasbestcharacter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ok so I basically typed an answer, did some research, changed it to start to type another answer, and then changed it again. Personally I love this theory and hope it is true. But then it popped into my head about Lift and Ym. Both are not natives to nations that fixate on Vorinism, and yet they each have opposite gender spren (in Ym's case the voice is feminine so I assume it is female) like the other knights to be. The only exception so far seems to be Renarin. But then I thought, just because that may seem like a false positive, doesn't negate the theory that Lift and Ym as individuals happen to see these spren as complimenting them on multiple levels, and these spren just happen to be the opposite sex. So fingers crossed this is true!- 68 replies

[Secret History Spoiler] Implications about another world?
Pathfinder replied to Mael's topic in Mistborn
He is included in the broadsheet for bands of mourning. It is the gondolla fight article. -
I thought the WoB was just that Odium would be willing to work with someone to accomplish it. Has there been a WoB since then that definitively confirmed this?

What about the Voidspren and Renarin
Pathfinder replied to Mileswasbestcharacter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah we are referring to the same WoB, but I never got the hang of searching for them, otherwise I would quote it. I agree. Seems eh to me to be done that way, and I feel the matches should be more focused on the personalities of the surgebinder and spren rather than what their sex is.- 68 replies
