  1. Did anyone else think the Planet that Sunlitman took place on was some type of machine. The way Nomad was talking about the sunlight being pulled to the core to me it seemed like some type of huge battery. Could it be old tec before the shattering or I'm I completely wrong wich is fine it's happened plenty of times before.

  2. I tryed to read Sunlit during the year of Sanderson and could just not get into it for one reason or another. But going into the book knowing who Aux and Nomad were gave me a new way to look at the book and boy did I love it. It makes me like Nomad alot more and I looking forward to seeing what happend in his past int the back 5 books

That's the second time I've done that. Sorry about that.

I don't expect it. I hope for it, because Kaladin has bored me for about 3 books now. I know I'm in the minority. Also, I'm unlikely to read the Back Five due to the Grim Reaper. (I'm older than Brandon.)

Oh Kaladin has become my favorite.  There are many aspects of his characters that I relate to. I'm just shy of 40 so I'm about 10 years young then Mr. Sanderson I hope to be reading cosmere books into my late 50s

  4. I just can't imagine A Stormlight Archives book with out Kaladin for me Stormlight is Kaladin.  To think book 6 without Kaladin would just make me sad. Does anyone think there won't be any Kaladin in hook 6. We have to wait what 6-8 year for book 6 and then another 3or 4 year for book 7 could be up to 12 years of no Kaladin and Syl that just would be horrible for me haha. So I guess let's just have the Heralds front in center in book 6 haha

Maybe in their youth these actors would be great at portraying these characters, aside from some of the ethnic differences (Kaladin having darker skin than Keanu). I think, though, that since almost all the actors you mentioned are now in their late 30s to early 60s it might be far less of a match these days. Kaladin and Shallan are both teenagers at the beginning of WoK, so having someone like Keanu who is 60 playing a 19-year-old would be a poor casting decision and the same goes for both of the actors you mention for Shallan.

Oh I agree with you 100% I guess I should explain that's not who I want to playbthe characters it's just who my minds eyes has been picturing when I was reading them that past go around.👍👍

  6. I don't think anyone knows he is a Herald I believe they Ll think he is dead at this point. I don't think he would like being worshipped at all. I have imaged him returning as decending from the Sky with pillers of stone in the back ground with scenes of  him carved into the pillers. Kaladin holding his honor spear with Syl full size decending next to him

  7. After reading Wind and Truth I was thinking young Keanu Reeves kind of had the look of how I picture Kaladin and I keep on going back and forth with Deborah Ann Woll and Rose Leslie as how I picture Shallan. Any ones els have thoughts and opinions thanks

I do recommend reading Sunlit Man. It’s a good read and it focuses on what happened to two side characters who were kind of left in the lurch at the end of WaT.

That said, I think fans tend to overstate the importance of the Kaladin mention in Sunlit Man. People want to read it as ‘confirmation’ of whether Kaladin is still alive or not in the space age, but it just isn’t confirmation one way or the other. The text is deliberately ambiguous.

I just started it Iagain I got to page 124 on my first attempt that's were the book mark was haha. I read the first two chapter while waiting at my daughters dentis appointment but now making dinner.

I'm not sure if the Heralds are still trapped on Roshar as Cognitive Shadows (which Kaladin technically is now), or if they're free to go like the spren are now that Honor has left the building.

But it would be interesting to see. One of the things that came up in Sunlit Man was Sigzil thinking Wit was Kaladin, briefly. So he could be very well going around being immortal and saving the worlds.

That's it I have to read Sunlit Man I was starting a reread of Way of Kings but to many people have been bring up Sunlitman. I started when I got it from the secret projects but never hand enough time to get into it

    Thank you.

  11. Kaladin and Syl have become my favorite characters in anything I have read. With Adloin and Shallan right behind them. With Kaladin and Syl becoming  immortal. Syl probably already was right? With that being said will (I really hope) Kaladin be a player in the space age of the Cosmere. I believe Mistborn era 4 will be the cosmere books written in the space age but I have been thinking about Kal and Syl being around and jumping on a space ship to go fly around the cosmere. But now that I say this would Syl be able to  physical leave Roshar. Her and Kaladin minds are with the other Oathpack members.  Also thinking can Kaladin go out in space with his shardplate on and fly around. It would be great to read about Kaladin and Syl flying between blast of Lazer fire  and  slicing open a spaceship in a fight. I'll stop now because I could go on and on.

  12. I would take honor. Some of my idols growing up were Capt Picard and Mr. Work haha I have tryed to be a honorable person in my carrier and life. And have decided to help and defend people as much as I can in my carrier. Haveing the shard of honor would help me protect and defend people. I would hate dominion because I extremely dislike people that try to hold dominion over other  people. This was a great pole

I just read all of Azimov’s main works in the past 16 months (17 books). They aren’t all created equal and part of it is the way he went about writing it. The first 3 Foundation novels are arguably his best and were written as  serial short stories, his best style. He didn’t really plan that all out, wrote the middle books randomly and tied them together with the last Foundation books only at urging from others. There are many SciFi books that are better but I am glad to have read them. As with Asimov, Tolkien was a modern literary pioneer. I wouldn’t be reading Sanderson if I hadn’t been excited by Tolkien in my youth. Both of these authors are burdened by writing in an era that was culturally different than now - for example female protagonists are hard to find.

Sanderson, on the other hand, has this large outline of everything, for which we have only seen a portion of it. He’s very prolific and I do love his stories! I agree that Sanderson has learned from those that came before him. You would want those that come later to be improved in some way. Does Sanderson do everything better? I dare say no, but a better overall writer? For at least Asimov I say yes. It’s been too long since I’ve read Tolkien to judge there.

Have you listened/watch any of Asomov old interviews on YouTube they are excellent. I guess for me Sanderson is my favorite out of the three and he is becoming my favorite author

About the end of the cosmere....given how prevalent the theme of "the best people to entrust with power are the ones who least want it" and the lengths to which Hoid has gone to avoid holding a Shard, I'm half expecting the cosmere to end with Adonalsium reforming in some way or to some degree and Hoid ends up reluctantly holding its power and being like "and I suppose that makes this the grandest joke in the history of the cosmere, but I for one, am NOT AMUSED."

I would love somthing like this

I think the answer to this question and is entirely subjective to what a person looks for in stories.

For example, to me, Tolkien does not even make my top 10 list.

I recognize the great contribution Tolkein, Lewis, Wells, Verne, Asimov, etc. have made to speculative fiction - the macro and sub genres would not exist today without their efforts (even if both Sci Fi and Fantasy go back to antiquity - the defined genres rest firmly on these works and authors' shoulders).

Just like Scientific progress - could Newton have made strides in the Laws of Motion without the work of mathematicians and physicists that preceded him? No. Would we have the current Cosmere without the works of Tolkien and Asimov? No. Is Sanderson a better storyteller? Subjective yes.

If you want 90 lbs of background material for a 2 lb story - Tolkein is that. If you want wide arrays of stories across Millennia of in-world time that, somehow, all come together to a cohesive whole in the last 3 books? Asimov is that (and a major Cosmere inspiration).

Brandon borrows from both, and does those things better than either one could - but he does not do all that those two have done; thereby making an direct comparisons fallacious in any context other than personal preference.

    Hope that helps

Such great points. I read Asimov for the first time two years my grandmother was telling how amazing he was. I just felt underwhelmed. I guess i a better way for me to explain myself is Tolkien and Asimov are Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzy and Sanderson is Conor Mcdavid

    Better in what regard?

Worldbuilding? Tolkein constructed several languages for the sake of making his poetry better in universe. Despite already being an accomplished poet in English. At that point you're not worldbuilding for the world anymore. You're in it for love of the game.

Prose? Tolkein has arguably every other fantasy writer beat. (Though, I will hear arguments between Tolkein and Terry Pratchett having better prose.)

There are some aspects of Sandersons writing I prefer. Tolkein let a few characters just outright die on the grapevine, like Aragorn not really having a character arc and just being arguably a secondary aspect of Theodens character arc. But I won't call him better.

You are much better at articulating your self then I am. I would say that Sanderson over all story telling is better and is much more involved with many more characters that have more indepth stories. 20 pluse cosmere books to the Hobbit Lord of the Rings and then the Silmarillion. I would say Tolkien had alot of ideas and characters but never fleshed them out like Sanderson has been able to sofar. I have read Lord of the rings 3 or 4 times in the past 20 years and none of of the characters hit like Kaladin does for me.

  17. I'm not positive we're to put this post. But after finishing Wind and Truth and almost all of the cosmere books. The over all cosmere story is better then Middel earth in my opinion.  Also how many years did it tak Tolkien to write The Hobbit and Lord of the rings. Brandon Sanderson has written 20 some thing cosmere books and other books along with short stories outside of the Cosmere. Tolkien is the father of epic fansty but Sanderson has become the king of epic fansty. Tolkien did create many languages and people didn't help him like Sanderson has people help him with further understanding people with disabilities but to me that just makes him a better written and story teller. He has taken the opportunity of getting first hand knowledge from people to try to fully understand what  people ho through to help make his stories that much better.  Thanks for reading
