  1. Night 1 - Obstruction of Justice Ninera and Ayara stood in a bustling tea shop, talking and waiting. “...I was walking to the library, y’know, when some guy started yelling at me. Told me that I needed to cover up my safehand, said I should be ashamed of myself.” Ayara shivered. “Followed me until I got into the library.” “Yeah, that’s creepy,” Ninera said. “Extremist Vorins are the worst.” “One caffeinated jasmine white tea for Ninera Choi?” a voice called from behind a counter. “Oh, that’s me,” Ninera said to Ayara. She went to the counter and grabbed her drink. It was warm in her hands, a counterpoint against the chilly air in the tea shop. She sniffed it appreciatively. “I have to go now, I’m supposed to go to some hearing thing for the Shard Lab investigation at 3.” “They think you took Survival?” Ayara asked incredulously. “You?” “Nah, they’re making everybody who’s been in the Shard Lab do it,” said Ninera. “They probably just have to show the parents that they’re doing something. I’m probably going to do my lit reading there.” She opened the door. “Anyways, bye Ayara.” “Seeya Nin,” Ayara said. -- “Ladies, gentlemen, and those who are neither, welcome,” Deputy Vice Chancellor Finn Scholz said from his position behind the podium, “to the first daily adjourning of the Shardic Research Facility investigation.” He held the podium tightly, looking across the auditorium. It was packed with students, professors, and researchers, the combined might of several different departments. “It has come to our attention that many of those who were granted access to the Shardic Research Facility have abused this access, and taken what is not rightfully yours. We meet today, to determine which among you have so casually flouted rules meant for the well-being of us all.” As his speech continued, his audience lost interest. Finn’s eyes passed from students smirking at unknown contents on the phones they were holding out, to facility members gossiping to each other, to a few frisky audience members making out in the back corners, to some tired souls who had simply fallen asleep. “It is clear to me that respect for authority is not what it once was,” Finn said. “Thus, we at the Silverlight Polytechnic University administration feel that it is time to bring back the rule of law to our esteemed school, and cast out those miscreants who would sully our name.” He swiped his hands in a sharp line. “Henceforth, those who are determined guilty in these hearings shall have any accreditations, degrees, and scholarships given to them by our venerable school revoked and made null.” That got their attention. Shock and fear ran through the audience like an electric current. Finn smiled. “I have already received notice that several complaints have been made against a certain individual.” He paused for dramatic effect. “Darrel, you are accused of illicitly Investing unauthorized objects and selling them without a license. What do you have to say about yourself?" ------------------------------ At the end of the day, the investigation concluded, without sufficient evidence for any guilty charges. A large majority of the students refused to give evidence while on the witness stand, and the remainder had nothing of substance to say. The students who had issued accusations contradicted themselves on the stand, or recanted in front of the audience. Finn wiped sweat from his face as he walked out of the auditorium, visibly angry. "How dare they so openly flout our authority!" His staff assistants froze, each trying not to draw his attention. Nobody wanted to be the target of his wrath. Then, he calmed down, a smile growing on his face. "If the students won't cooperate with this investigation, they shall be made to cooperate. Dalji, look up the UniReg on corporeal punishment for me, would you?" --------------------------------- Nobody was lynched! The Sand Lord (aspect of Autonomy) has joined the game on Nalthis! 3. Rules clarification: passing investiture and shards can be done in any cycle
  4. It is possible for a shard's win condition to cause new end of game conditions
  5. Voting for no lynch is definitely a thing you can do
  6. Ties will result in a no-lynch. 2-vote minimum. If a plurality votes no-lynch, no lynch will occur.
  7. GM Note: My apologies for not catching this quickly enough to nip it in the bud. By the time I saw it, it had already sparked discussion. However, the use of accidental spreadsheet knowledge and the use of doc knowledge from the earlier game is something that definitely should not have happened.
  8. Day 1 - Tremors in the Sky The Governing Council tore into Mlyssa as soon as the meeting started. “It should have been obvious from the start,” the Deputy Vice Chancellor said. “It seems exceedingly foolish to me to let so many students come in such close contact to the Shards of Adonalsium themselves, without further vetting. It was only a matter of time before someone succumbed to temptation.” He shook his head sadly, his disappointment clear. “I agree,” the Vice Chancellor said. “I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner.” The discussion continued in the same vein, each member of the Council condemning Mlyssa for her failure to carry out basic security objectives, for her overreliance on obviously insufficient measures, for not promptly addressing problems brought to her attention, for underperforming, for any problem real or imagined. Each voice added to the blame, blending into a cacophony of shame that pricked at her with a thousand tiny needles. Perhaps, a governor suggested, she ought to be fired. Mylssa anxiously twirled her long eyebrows in her hands. Sure, it was kind of her fault, but...she didn’t deserve to be fired, did she? Her eyes darted around the table desperately. The others all loomed over her, like she was a beetle under a magnifying glass that the sun was about to hit. God Beyond, she could hear the predatory glee in their voices, covered up by those sickeningly fake smiles. Mlyssa’s eyes found Raona Sheran, the Head of Investiture Science. Mlyssa had been asked to come here, supposedly as a favor to the Governing Council, to provide a perspective on the events of last night. Oh, how wrong that had been. Raona stared calmly back at Mlyssa. They were all looking at Mlyssa. “Hold on,” the Vice Chancellor said. “I just got a call. Keep going, don’t wait for me.” He stood up and left. Momentarily freed from the weight of everyone’s attention, Mlyssa took a deep breath. “I, uh…” she freed her hands from her eyebrows, ducking down to get her bag. “I got the initial report.” She brought the manila envelope out of her bag and pushed it onto the table. Some heads turned towards it, but just as quickly turned back towards Mlyssa. “The biometric handprint lock was hit with a localized EMP, then Forged so it had a bug where the door opened when the lock was offline. The EMP took out the decontamination chamber, so it wouldn’t scrub away any Investiture on them. I don’t think it was a student, because....uh, a student could’ve gotten in...the normal way, and then easily broken through the walls.” Failure to encase the lab in a layer of aluminum: another one of the Governing Council’s many, many valid points. “It could be an act of misdirection,” the Deputy Vice Chancellor said. Mlyssa disentangled her fingers from her eyebrows again. Oh God Beyond, she hadn’t even thought of that. She hadn’t thought of a lot of things. “The police found fingerprints everywhere, but it’s impossible to tell whether that was from before, or the...break-in. They can’t use Investiture sniffers either, because there’s too much overlap from all the other shards. I...I don’t think...Survival could be anywhere.” Once again the Governing Council growled discontentedly, the full force of its ire focused on Mlyssa. Raona flashed an apologetic smile at her, all fangs and needles. The wolf thanking the lamb for its sacrifice. Mlyssa stared at the floor and waited for it all to end. The Vice Chancellor staggered back to the table, his face pale, his hands shaking. “What happened?” The Deputy Vice Chancellor asked. “Odium. Ruin. And Autonomy.” The Vice Chancellor said. “They’re gone.” Mlyssa was quickly fired after that. ------------------------------------ In the dark, a hand lit up, wreathed with golden fire. It flexed experimentally, the fingers opening and closing in the night. Power thrummed through it, along with an ache to be used. Not yet. The light traced the outline of a face, half of it lost to shadow. The hand tightened to a fist. A moment later, the light winked out. ---------------------------------- General announcements: Due to the ongoing Shardic release crisis, management has determined to take extraordinary motivational measures to ensure compliance with rules and regulations concerning use and abuse of Shardic investiture. Effective immediately, one researcher at this facility will be terminated every day until unauthorized access ceases completely. Terminated personnel will have all professional accreditations and credentials from Silverlight Polytechnic revoked, and a permanent restraining order from coming within 200 meters of the Shardic Research Facility campus. If anyone has any information on unauthorized access, we invite you to come forward and share your suspicions. Specifically, any information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for releasing the Shards of Ruin, Odium, and Autonomy from their research containment will be rewarded generously. 9. Because the player who had unnamed character 2 gave me a name.
  10. Well, we as GMs weren't going to reveal the original distribution and stuff until after the game was over, to try and avoid cluttering up analysis and stuff. So, while I'm fine with you all talking about it, I'm not going to confirm anything. Except for # of conversions, because the only reason I hadn't revealed it was because I missed that I hadn't set the number yet. Both conversion teams get 2 conversions this game.
  11. That should be all of the new role PMs out! If somebody does not have a new message with a new role, please PM me as soon as you can! I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and I hope you all enjoy the reboot of LG43!
  12. Rae did a great job, didn't she? If she were up at rollover time, I'd have her post the new threads just so that she would get all of the upvotes.
  13. Night Zero: Shattered Timelines Ninera sighed and turned off her phone. “Anything new, Nin?” Ayara asked, holding a stack of textbooks that were too large to fit into her purse. “Chouta My Heart’s closing,” Ninera said. She knelt down to tuck her phone back into her backpack. “Eh, that place is trash,” Ayara said. “You coming to the study session later?” Before Ninera could answer, the world shook around them. Ninera went sprawling, her bare arms blazing with pain against the concrete ground. She reached for her backpack, but her fingers swiped straight through, the bag as insubstantial as mist. Next to her, Ayara lay on the ground, hands over her head, shrieking. Around them, the world sloshed violently, unmade and remade, old Connections snapping as new ones formed, forged into a different shape than before. Ninera prayed to the Iridescent Tones, to the Returned, to anything for it to just please stop. Finally, miraculously, it ended. Ninera pushed herself to her feet, groaning. “Are you okay?” she asked Ayara. She offered a hand. “I think so,” Ayara said faintly, taking Ninera’s hand. “What was that?” Ninera shrugged. “Maybe someone using Survival?” she guessed. “Schenke’s Reciprocal Parity theorem, Shardholders can reclaim their Investiture at any time, which changes the Connections of the things it was Invested in?” Ayara giggled, with an edge of hysteria in her voice. “C’mon, we all know you’re an honors student, no need to show off.” She picked up her dropped textbook. “Maybe the Dragon Daily will have something on it?” “Isn’t it called the Axehound Daily?” Ninera said, frowning. “No wait, it is the Dragon Daily. Nights, I’m so tired I can’t even remember things right.” She took out her phone. “Anything new?” Ayara asked, holding a stack of textbooks. “Nothing about that earthquake,” Ninera said. “Choutalicious is closing though.” She knelt down to tuck her phone back into her backpack. “Eh, that place is trash,” Ayara said. “You coming to the study session later?” She dropped her voice conspiratorially and said, “I’m inviting Elias to it too.” “Girl, are you trying to sabotage my grade?” Ninera grumbled, ignoring Ayara’s knowing smirk. “I’m not gonna get anything done tonight if he’s there.” She hefted her backpack onto her shoulders. Had she done this before? She shook her head to clear it of such thoughts. Maybe she should take a nap first if she was this tired, especially if she was going to see Elias at the study session. “See you later, Ayara.” “Seeya, Nin!” ---------------------------------- Welcome to LG43a: Under the Banner of Adonalsium! General announcements: The Shard of Survival has been released from containment by malefactors unknown, and is currently believed to be at large. Please report any suspiciously large concentrations of uncontained Investiture to your team leader. Remember, all personal storage of uncontained Investiture is strictly prohibited, and violation of this policy will be grounds for immediate termination from the Silverlight Shardic Research Facility. In addition, the organizational goals of the 17th Shard have been streamlined and updated. Copies have been posted in all the break rooms in this facility. Please take the time to familiarize yourselves with the updated goals. Remember, at the 17th Shard, our goals are your goals! Finally, we are pleased to announce that Arraenae has been hired as the Assistant Vice President of Archival Operations of the Silverlight Research Facility. You should all have been given her contact information, and you should feel free to address any concerns you have with her. She will be primarily responsible for maintaining the historical record of this facility, but she has jurisdiction over operational matters as well. If you have any matters that you believe ought to be included in the long-term historical archive of this facility, please bring it to her attention. As a final note, please remember that private communication channels in this facility are not permitted. If you would like to open up a private communication channel, please contact your team lead for permission. Thank you for your time, and we hope you have a productive day at the Silverlight Shardic Research Facility! 14. Thank you all for your patience with us as we have deliberated over the course of action we should take. Thank you also for all of your responses. After consulting with the IM (which is Wilson, for this game - I just realized that I hadn't announced that anywhere), and considering the responses we have received, we feel that the best course of action is to restart the game with a new RNG. Thank you all for being understanding, and we appreciate all of the input we have received. Since rollover should be happening in about 2 minutes from now, we will just load up the new RNG for rollover. New Role PMs coming your way!
  15. This is a public service announcement. Before the game started, Elbereth was helping me put together the spreadsheet to keep track of actions, alignments, and such. She wasn't able to finish all of the formulas before the game started, so she made a copy of the blank spreadsheet to finish them and send them to me. Due to a glitch in the way I removed permissions, she ended up still having access to the main spreadsheet, and accidentally accessed it instead of the copy. El has offered to just drop out of the game as a fix. However, since the game has just started, we could potentially just restart it with a new RNG. That's a possibility I wanted to run by the rest of the players here. Please let me know in your game PM which option you prefer. Your responses will be confidential. The cycle may need to be extended to catch everyone's responses.
  16. 1. PAFO 2. PAFO 3. Yes. Any ability that grants extra lives and can be used during the day cycle protects against lynches 4. Nope
  17. I'm at work atm, so ruining down all of the possible interactions will be difficult. Here's a rough order of actions for the night cycle, though: Burning investiture (except for shardworld actions) happens first Then, redirects and roleblocks happen simultaneously (roleblock circles cancel the actions of everybody involved) (if a redirect would be blocked by a roleblock that they tried to move, the redirect gets priority) Then, conversions happen - if a player is targeted by both Hoid and Khriss, both conversions fail. This is also when the check for Shardic Intent conversion happens Then investiture gets stolen, passed, or traded (see roshar) shards get passed. If a player passing a shard was converted by their Shardic Intent in the previous step, the pass will be cancelled. Then protections happen (including extra life abilities), followed by kills. I know I'm missing a few abilities, but I'm pretty sure that most of them will fit right in between passing shards and protections. Is that clear enough for the moment?
  18. The write-up has been edited in! You should all go upvote Rae for the excellent write-up!
  19. Yes. If a player is converted by holding a shard, they retain that win con even if they pass the shard.
  20. Rules clarifications - A Vessel who was once a Researcher can still steal charges of investiture from contained Shards. However, if the Shard they targeted is released from containment, they are eligible to be randomly assigned it. Essentially - anytime a random player would get a Shard, it will go to a random non-Vessel player unless one is not available. (I reserve the right to remove inactive players from the list of those who are eligible to receive Shards as well.) Autonomy's aspects give them full access to the doc of any planet they are invested in - autonomy can talk anonymously in the doc as if they were there. All players in a Shardworld doc will be listed by the GM in the header, but autonomy will be listed by the name of their aspect. (If autonomy is present on the world as well as having an aspect, both the aspect and the player will be posted)
  21. If khriss used one action tonight to pick up two charges of investiture, then worldhopped to braize during the day, she could use the shardworld's action to attack anywhere that night.
  22. Well - the investiture is always consumed, whether you take an action or not. So if your action fails because you targeted someone on another world, the investiture is still gone. Note: you do not use investiture to power actions. You burn investiture to gain abilities (either passive ones or new actions) for the cycle. At the end of the cycle, regardless of any other factors, all the investiture you burned goes away.
