  1. I wasn't clear describing my interest. I find it interesting that Szeth is labeled "Truthless". They could have labeled him (and his ilk) anything, but they settled on "Truthless." Can someone who doesn't possess a belief system (i.e. someone who's perfectly skeptical) have honor? Don't you have to believe that something is true? Civilizations have a difficult time coping with inconsistent wild cards.
  2. I think the more interesting question surrounds the alignment of Windrunners and Honorspren. What is "honor"? Based on the way Syl reacts to Kaladin's choices and ponderings, she equates honor with consistency. To her, one should say what they mean and mean what they say. Her objection to Kaladin's support of Moash's plan seemed to stem more from her views on the similarities between Elkohar and Tien than on whether Moash's plan was good or evil. To have compassion toward Tien, but not Elkohar would be inconsistent and, therefore, dishonorable (according to Syl). Maybe that's why Skybreakers are Lawful Neutral. As others have suggested 'round these parts, the decision of whether to label a behavior as "good" or "evil" often depends on which end of the spear you're on. Given these subjectivities, perhaps Skybreakers rely on the law to be their compass because they desperately hope it represents the consensus view.
  3. Interesting questions. Is a prophet, who knows truth, obligated to report it without censor? What if the prophet determines the truth doesn't offer sufficient hope? And everyone would be better off deluded. And then there's Szeth. Truthless. What does "Truthless" mean? And why would that make him an ideal candidate for the Skybreakers?
  4. Grinachu said (among other things), We can only hope that readers will receive more context as the story progresses. Someone said that history is written by the victors. I'd guess it was either Ben Franklin or Alexander de Toqueville. But those are my two defaults when I can't remember the actual thinker.
  5. Fascinating idea. Not sure if I agree. But very thought-provoking. Thanks.
  6. - Cryptozoologist I agree. I suspect that the reason he interrupts himself is if he finishes his own sentence, he reveals he's a world hopper. If someone said that to me, my next thought would likely be, "Of course on 'this planet.' What? You have knowledge of other worlds?" I have no idea who Dalinar's wife is, but it's an interesting question.
  7. I've wondered the same thing. WoR Spoilers I know it's impossible based on what we currently know, but I guess I'm romantic that way.
  8. Hi, My name is actually Dan, but Nalan is the Herald I identify with the most. But I am an admitted Rosharoholic. About me...hmmm...is this where I make a played joke about walks on the beach? Let's see...I'm an avid reader of fiction. I love Preston-Childs and G.R.R. Martin. I've loved Philip Jose Farmer. Love books with maps! Not sure why. I love to make maps myself - it's something that me and my kids do for fun. The depth of Sanderson's universe humbles me. I sometimes ponder how he constructed it. I assume he made some mistakes and then realized that he had to first establish the Truth and then work backwards from that. That's how I'd do it. That said, so far I've only read Stormlight and Steelheart, but I suspect I'll read even more (if for no other reason to learn more about Wit/Hoid). Anyway, my other interests include White Denim, an American rock band out of Austin, TX. I think they're the greatest band in the world. If you like Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan or if you can just appreciate great musicianship in general, you should check them out. Their rhythm section is the best I've ever heard. I'm happily married with three great kids and I live outside of Denver, CO. I also like beer and am gifted with the ability to locate it through sight or smell. I'll try to contribute positively to this forum. But I have a sardonic side that I'm trying to curb.
