Question

I just realized this. A vessel’s Connection to the shard they control is what allows them use possess it. So, since a bondsmith can steal Connections from people, could they, if Odium met them in one of his visions, take his Connection to his shard, allowing them to ascend and become Odium themselves? Just makes you wonder a bit about how powerful a bondsmith might be when they use their powers correctly.

I suspect they would have trouble stealing the vessel's connection to the shard, in fact, given the oaths, I have some doubt that a spren-bonded bondsmith would be able to decrease someone's connection in general.

However, if for instance they came across a free shard that they were not initially sufficiently Connected to, then they could probably boost their own connection to it enough to pick it up, though whether that would last long enough to continue holding it I don't know.

Narratively, it really shouldn't work but magically, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

There's a WoB on this

Questioner (paraphrased)

Theoretically, with enough Stormlight could a Bondsmith bond a Shard to something?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

With enough Investiture, yeah, that's viable.
